Senior Lecturer

Centre for Higher Education, Research, Training and Learning (CHERTL)

The Centre for Higher Education, Research, Training and Learning (CHERTL) invite suitably qualified candidates to join their team.

Main Objectives

The main objective of this job is to coordinate the CHERTL doctoral and master’s programmes and support academics in their roles as educators at the tertiary level. This support and development will be provided by i) teaching on formal courses intended to enhance teaching and learning (not only at Rhodes University but also across the entire higher education sector ii) providing consultancy on issues relating to teaching and learning and iii) supporting academics as they meet requirements related to the assurance and enhancement of quality (for example, by helping to interpret student feedback).

In addition, the incumbent will be expected to contribute to developing the field of Higher Education Studies through their research and by providing supervision at doctoral (if appropriate) and master’s level. CHERTL academic staff are required to contribute to the academic project in the Faculty of Education, particularly regarding master's and doctoral education.

Appointment at Senior Lecturer would require the incumbent to i) contribute to the leadership of the Centre for Higher Education Research, Teaching and Learning; take responsibility for the coordination of the CHERTL doctoral and master’s programmes ii) contribute to formal CHERTL programmes in Higher Education Studies iii) advise on and contribute to teaching and learning policy development at an institutional level, iv) be able to comment on (and thus provide shape to) national level policy and initiatives and v) participate in national level initiatives related to doctoral and postgraduate education more broadly.

The Requirements

A PhD in Higher Education Studies or a cognate field with:

  • Experience in supervision at Master’s and PhD levels.
  • Teaching experience at university level or experience in supporting and developing teaching at this level.
  • Involvement in professional entities.
  • Emerging national profile in Higher Education Studies or doctoral education. Track record of capacity building of academic staff.
  • Track record of sound administration, management and/ or leadership roles (leadership roles may be informal).

Remuneration Per Annum

Basic Pensionable Salary per annum: R783,240.00

Cost to Company per annum (Approximately): R1,013,469.00

Qualification & Experience
  • Degree in OD, L&D, Graphic design or equivalent - beneficial.

  • Experience within the FMCG, retail sector or similar - preferred.

CORE FUNCTIONS INCLUDE
  1. Track documents as per New Programme Development processes
  2. Efficiently schedule and coordinate meetings and interviews as and when required
  3. Ensure new programme development is completed as per regulatory and institutional standards
  4. Sourcing of programme developers, programme reviewers, and short learning programme developers timeously to ensure deadlines are met
  5. Liaise with programme developers regarding revisions and/or amendments to new programme submission documents
  6. Submit new programmes as per the stipulated deadline
  7. Ensure alignment of new programme development with the institution’s mission, vision, and strategic objectives
  8. Compile and coordinate narratives and supporting evidence for new programme development
  9. Coordinate the development of responses to conditions and/or representations (where applicable) when feedback is received from the respective regulator
  10. Coordinate the development and review of Short Learning Programmes ensuring alignment with the institution’s mission, vision, and strategic objectives
  11. Ensure professional body accreditation, endorsement, MOU, or maintenance is complete as per the guidelines provided

Curriculum Coordinator: New Programme Development Listing reference: manco_ Listing status: Online Apply by: 7 April 2025 Position summary Job category: Others: Education and Training Location: Durban Contract: Fixed Term Contract EE position: No Introduction To provide coordination and support to the Curriculum Department by assisting with the various processes associated with new programme development, short learning programme development, professional body accreditation and responses to regulatory bodies within the department to ensure that MANCOSA meets its strategic objectives and goals. CORE FUNCTIONS INCLUDE Track documents as per New Programme Development processes Efficiently schedule and coordinate meetings and interviews as and when required Ensure new programme development is completed as per regulatory and institutional standards Sourcing of programme developers, programme reviewers, and short learning programme developers timeously to ensure deadlines are met Liaise with programme developers regarding revisions and/or amendments to new programme submission documents Submit new programmes as per the stipulated deadline Ensure alignment of new programme development with the institution’s mission, vision, and strategic objectives Compile and coordinate narratives and supporting evidence for new programme development Coordinate the development of responses to conditions and/or representations (where applicable) when feedback is received from the respective regulator Coordinate the development and review of Short Learning Programmes ensuring alignment with the institution’s mission, vision, and strategic objectives Ensure professional body accreditation, endorsement, MOU, or maintenance is complete as per the guidelines provided Submit professional body applications as per the stipulated deadline Ensure alignment of professional body with the identified existing programme Compile and manage narratives and supporting evidence for professional body applications Participation in regulatory body activities Qualifications Essential Qualification: Honours Preferred Qualification: Master’s EXPERIENCE Essential experience: At least 1-2 year’s higher education work experience, and understanding of curriculum and regulatory compliance Preferred experience: At least 1-2 year’s higher education work experience, and understanding of curriculum and regulatory compliance RELATED KNOWLEDGE, COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS Excellent listening, communication, and written skills Strong writing and reporting abilities Effective collaboration and interpersonal skills Strong networking and relationship-building skills Adherence to instructions and procedures Deadline-oriented Capable of multitasking Excellent planning, organizational skills, and ability to perform under pressure High level of integrity and honesty Creative and innovative thinker Proficiency in MS Office Solid understanding of the Higher Education landscape Ability to thrive under pressure General Required to work overtime when necessary #J-18808-Ljbffr
