1. Strategic Production Management

  • Lead, manage, and optimize all steel and timber production lines to meet quality, cost, and delivery targets.

  • Overhaul existing reaction-based production model and instil systematic, data-driven planning and prioritization processes.

2. Planning & Workflow Optimization

  • Design and deploy a centralized production planning system , integrating all job cards and production schedules across departments.
  • Prioritize and schedule jobs to ensure optimal resource utilization and deadline adherence.
  • Eliminate bottlenecks and who shouts the loudest prioritization culture through structured job tracking and coordination.

3. ERP & Systems Implementation

  • Select and implement an ERP or MRP system tailored to custom manufacturing workflows.
  • Lead digitization efforts including job tracking, inventory management, production dashboards, and real-time performance metrics.
  • Apply lean manufacturing principles to reduce waste, minimize rework, and improve efficiency.
  • Introduce just-in-time (JIT) production where appropriate to reduce overproduction, storage costs, and material waste.

5. People & Performance Management

  • Manage and coach departmental supervisors, team leaders, and production teams (both timber and steel).
  • Monitor performance KPIs (output, errors, downtime, overtime, etc.) and implement corrective actions where needed.
  • Right-size staffing levels to align with demand while minimizing overtime and excess capacity.

6. Quality Assurance & Risk Mitigation

  • Reduce error rates and production defects through process control, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with costing, design, and installation teams to ensure manufacturability and sequencing integrity.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in a custom or project-based manufacturing environment (e.g., shopfitting, furniture, steel / timber fabrication, engineering products).
  • Degree in Industrial Engineering or related discipline is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in :
  • Leading production in a multi-product, low-volume-high-variety environment.
  • Implementing ERP / MRP systems from concept to go-live.

Operational Excellence: Manage resources and ensure efficient and effective day-to-day operations of store execution including flexible people and resource allocation, continuously monitor service delivery, ensure implementation of systems to promote efficiency, implement sales initiatives and value-adding store operations, ensure all company assets are maintained according to company policy, manage staff in-store book communication and feedback.

Stakeholder Engagement: Provide continuous feedback as per client requirements, compile regular reports to relevant stakeholders, provide continuous feedback as per client requirements (competitor activities, promotions, ROS, product recalls, innovations, pricing, planograms, urgent deliveries), liaise with customers and depot’s regarding stock pressure, stock holdings, new innovations, deliveries, credit notes, special deliveries, staff, ROS, price, reviews, category flows, planograms, compile trade visit reports and trade contact reports, compile regular reports to Regional Managers, conduct review meetings with client, provide feedback via feedback platform (e.g., IVR/Grapevine/Field Comms/Manual tracking).

People Management: Take full responsibility for performance management of all direct reports, managing their performance in relation to quality standards and agreed benchmarks and objectives, focusing on all aspects of sound people management: Recruitment and selection, induction and orientation, training and development, rewards and remuneration, succession planning, performance management, ensure compliance with regards to leave, adherence to dress code, management of health and safety and adherence to staff welfare, ensure accurate in-store administration, provide updated stocking files and support staff with in-store conflict/issues, manage Employment Equity targets, ensure appropriate levels of management and accountability, motivate, delegate and empower appropriately, enabling direct reports to take responsibility and display creativity and initiative.

Responsibilities
  • Manage projects from kickoff to delivery
  • Lead client and talent onboarding and run regular client calls
  • Be the main client point of contact and build strong relationships
  • Coordinate the creative team and align deliverables with the brief and timelines
  • Maintain project tools and systems (docs, trackers, assets, comms)
  • Support proposals and ramp-ups for new engagements
  • Solve blockers fast and keep momentum across teams
  • Hold the line on scope and standards with both talent and clients
  • Build and maintain project budgets within company templates
  • Turn completed projects into concise case studies using our templates
  • Assist with off-season marketing tasks when needed
  • Working Hours: Full-time, working 6:00 am-2:00 pm EST (12:00-8:00 pm SAST) with occasional flexibility during busy periods
About you

To excel in this role, you need:

  • Agency or studio experience (creative/branding environment preferred)
  • Strong project management and organization skills (multi-project juggling)
  • Creative industry fluency (you “get” design quality and brand fundamentals)
  • Proficiency with core digital tools (Google Workspace, Slack, Dropbox)
  • Budgeting and negotiation skills for change orders and profitability
  • Experience with high-profile or senior-level clients
  • Branding agency background specifically
  • Leading distributed freelance teams across time zones
  • Hands-on experience creating short case studies from finished work
  • Familiarity with SOWs/estimations and change-order processes
  • You’re calm under pressure, emotionally intelligent, and growth-minded. You keep standards high, stay organized, and communicate directly but kindly. You enjoy design, can read a brief and spot scope creep, and you’re comfortable guiding clients and freelancers to decisions. Low ego, sharp, and steady.
