You’ll lead our Strategic Partnerships (SP) practice in Africa and the Middle East. Our practice assists our emerging market clients solve complex supply chain, trade, and policy challenges. Our Transportation and Supply Chain service is part of our SP and helps leading companies in all regional industries develop and implement future-oriented maritime logistics strategies. We do this by thinking outside the box, leveraging our network, developing genuine relationships, and transforming their supply chains to be reliable, cost-competitive, and ready for ocean transport.

You will provide business executives and government officials with a holistic, end-to-end view of transportation and supply chain traditional levers (e.g., inventory, S&OP, planning, and segmentation) and logistics levers (e.g., warehousing, order processing, ocean transportation management, and delivery), and return (returns processing, refurbishing, recycling, and disposal). This includes gathering and analyzing local, regional, and international dynamics, formulating and testing hypotheses, and developing recommendations for presentation to client management. From there, you will implement those recommendations with client team members and report to GMS management as needed. Typical projects may involve upgrading line and staff skills, changing the reporting relationship structure, developing improved processes and procedures, and instituting rigorous target-setting, and working with local embassies or consulates. You will work with the client to realize immediate savings by building and executing network strategies and leveraging networks to achieve higher levels of effectiveness and efficiency. In this position, you will advise both senior individuals at client organizations and existing client service teams on driving transformational change toward a resilient international supply chain.

Master’s degree in international trade and commerce, international development, international relations, global supply chain management, marine transportation, maritime logistics and security, or a similar advanced degree is preferred.

10+ years of Supply Chain Management and/or consulting experience

Professional experience in negotiation, business development, Automotive, Industrial/Consumer Goods, Retail or General Merchandising, Project Cargo, Bulk Commodities, and Terminal Operations.

Led or had a core role in projects in one of the following areas: design and implementation of logistics strategy, network design and optimization, transportation, warehouse design and optimization, supply chain planning and management processes, supply chain modeling and optimization, and customs clearance.

Hands-on experience collaborating with foreign diplomatic officials, economic development agencies, port authorities and terminal operations, warehousing, cold-chain, and optimizing all value chain stages.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and fostering a can-do, collaborative team environment.

Willingness to work and live overseas.

Local language proficiency is a plus.

The role focuses on route optimization, resource allocation, performance tracking, and operational compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee and manage all courier operations within the assigned zone.
• Monitor real-time delivery and collection activities to ensure adherence to daily schedules and service level agreements.
• Plan and allocate routes and resources effectively to optimize time, fuel, and labor efficiency.
• Act as the main point of contact between couriers, clients, and internal stakeholders for operational issues within the zone.
• Track courier performance metrics (on-time delivery, failed deliveries, customer complaints) and take corrective action when necessary.
• Ensure compliance with company policies, health and safety regulations, and transport legislation.
• Investigate and resolve operational incidents such as delays, vehicle issues, or delivery discrepancies.
• Liaise with the Fleet Controller to manage vehicle availability and maintenance schedules.
• Support onboarding, training, and coaching of courier staff where needed.
• Conduct regular audits and spot checks to ensure the integrity of parcels and documentation.
• Prepare and submit daily, weekly, and monthly performance reports.

Minimum Requirements:

• Matric / Grade 12 (essential)
• Diploma or Certificate in Logistics, Supply Chain, or Transport Management (advantageous)
• Minimum 2–3 years’ experience in courier operations or a logistics environment
• Proven experience in route planning, fleet coordination, or dispatch
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (especially Excel), tracking systems, and logistics software

The Transportation Manager is responsible for day-to-day transportation operations, including driver management, load planning, and customer service functions to ensure customer satisfaction. Operational functions include revenue generation, safety, recruiting, equipment maintenance monitoring, and driver payroll. These must be achieved while meeting the key performance indicators set by the Dedicated Logistics Manager, Operations Manager, and our customer.

Responsibilities:

• Build and maintain driver relationships by understanding and meeting their needs, including home time, payroll, utility issues, equipment breakdowns, logging violations, safety, and equipment issues.
• Assign drivers to loads by optimizing load details such as origination, destination, freight type, miles, stops, and directions, considering driver needs and availability.
• This is done using the AS400 computer system, Qualcomm satellite, face-to-face communication, and phone.
• Understand and adhere to our customer’s dynamics, service expectations, goals, and initiatives to enhance value for the customer and Werner.
• Coordinate with various departments such as billing, vans, customer service, risk, safety, payroll, fuel, maintenance, and external vendors.
• Collaborate with the Dedicated Manager and/or Operations Manager to maintain a full roster of drivers.

Qualifications:

• A Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Transportation/Logistics, or equivalent experience, and/or two to three years of fleet management or transportation experience in the truckload industry.
• Six months to one year of supervisory experience preferred.
• Strong organizational skills, proven management ability, and proficiency in operating a computer terminal and satellite communication systems.
