This role is responsible to optimize and continually improve the Technical operation of the Plant in a 1 year timeframe.
Responsibilities:
- Support the monitoring of materials usage
- Continuously liaise with the Section Manager Technical on plant operations, technical projects and improvements from a technical perspective
- Ensure that safety standards are adhered to
- Monitor that operating standards and procedures are up to date and understood by the concentrator and chrome plant team, educate team if there are variances
- Monitor and advise on the settings of operational parameters to optimize performance
- Audit the process regularly to ensure conformance to and understanding of standards
- Assist during breakdowns or emergencies or poor plant performances
- Identify and communicate plant defects to the Section Manager Technical
- Perform spot checks on PGM and Chrome Plant performance indicators
- Provide support to outside technical consultants
- Initiate and conduct personal and team technical projects with the Section Manager Technical and Laboratory Shift Leader

-The role is responsible to optimise and continually improve the processing technical integrity of the section by providing technical input with a 1 – 2 year timeframe to the Metallurgical Technical Engineer Processing.
Roles and responsibilities include the below:
- Supports the site Technical function through a disciplined focus on business improvement and integrated planning, ensuring that health and safety is not compromised.
- Provide people technical and operational support within the site by assisting all employees with the technical processing experience and site specific knowledge required to fully embed and realise the continuous improvement of processes, systems and equipment through the use of Feedback tools such as Analyse and Improve and Defect Analysis
- For areas within the site, assist in discerning and identifying trends and leading indicators through disciplined use of Feedback principles and the use of data and in field observations of technical problems which may lead to a reduction in operating efficiency or put at risk the integrity of the overall operation.

To effectively manage the day to day functioning of the mechanical, metallurgical, coating and electrical property testing facilities and also effectively investigate, compile technical reports and implement corrective actions regarding customer complaints.
Main Responsibilities
- Demonstrates and utilizes a very good / in-depth knowledge of common mechanical, metallurgical and certain electrical test techniques, to the level where improvements to existing procedures / works instructions can be made. Part of this is to be actively involved in routine laboratory testing, to understand the important details of each test.
- Completes investigation and closure of customer complaints as described in the relevant procedures and within the expected timeframes.
- Visits customers, when required, to verify complaint and/or provide customer feedback.
- Co-ordinate the calibration, servicing and repair of existing mechanical and metallurgical equipment. This includes the specification and timely purchase of metallurgical consumables and testing consumables such as hardness test blocks, machining tools or conductivity standards.
- Responsible for developing and writing up test procedures (works instructions) related to mechanical, metallurgical and electrical property testing. Includes development of tensile testing software templates.
- Co-ordinates outsourced test work, where applicable e.g. Ultrasonic Testing of blocks.
- Controls certain incoming material as prescribed in the relevant quality procedures, where required.
- Supervise the day-to-day activities of the lab technician/s and, where applicable, graduate students. Includes setting of performance targets and performance evaluations. Stand in for the Laboratory Technician role in times of absence.
- Ensure that the relevant check lists and run-charts are completed on time, every time.
Qualifications and Experience
- The incumbent must have matric with minimum 60% in English, Physical Sciences & Mathematics.
- He/She must have an appropriate undergraduate degree at NQF 7. Postgraduate degree at NQF 8/9 would be highly advantageous.
- A minimum of Five (5) years practicing as a Metallurgist, preferably in a QA environment in the metals industry. Preferably 10 years' experience.

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB
To perform the role of Senior Metallurgist within the Minerals Processing division, although duties may be required within other departments of the Metallurgy division. RESPONSIBILITIES
The Senior Metallurgist shall adhere to the following:
- Take control over data processing, including reporting of the testwork according to company guidelines. Report writing must be at a high standard and care must be given to use correct and appropriate grammar.
- Take responsibility for the monitoring of consumables and all expenses and coordinating this information with the divisional manager.
- Evaluate and interpret results of conducted test-work and assist with troubleshooting.

- Assist with the processing of data on projects dedicated to him/her.
- Liaise with Clients regularly and in a professional manner.
