Role Description

This is a full-time on-site role for a Building Maintenance professional located in Emalahleni. The Building Maintenance professional will be responsible for day-to-day maintenance tasks, including repairing and maintaining the building's infrastructure. Duties will include carpentry, plumbing, general maintenance, and repairs to ensure the building is safe and functional.

Qualifications

• Proficient in Building Maintenance and Maintenance & Repair
• Skilled in Carpentry and Plumbing
• Experience in general Maintenance tasks

About the role

Reporting to the General Manager, this role requires a strong blend of technical expertise and leadership ability to ensure the smooth running of our facilities and equipment. You will be responsible for overseeing all maintenance operations, coordinating contractors, and ensuring a safe and efficient manufacturing environment.

Key responsibilities

Conduct regular inspections of facilities to identify and resolve issues

Plan and oversee all repair, servicing, and installation activities

Monitor equipment, manage inventory, and place orders when required

Manage and supervise on-site contractors

Ensure effective and efficient maintenance practices are in place

What we're looking for

Minimum of 5 years' proven experience as a maintenance foreman in a manufacturing environment

Relevant qualification: Millwright / national diploma in mechanical or electrical engineering

Strong technical problem-solving skills combined with the ability to lead teams effectively

CORE PURPOSE OF JOB

• The purpose of this post is to execute Building and Engineering related maintenance work and services to all NMU buildings on all campuses and in accordance with the Health and Safety Act and NMU policies and procedures.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

• To ensure all works requisitions and job cards are completed daily.
• To ensure that all building and engineering maintenance work and services are completed daily.
• To ensure that preventative maintenance is carried out through regular inspections of buildings.
• To keep record and control over tools and machines in respect of carpentry services.
• To work independently and complete all stand-by related work.

CORE COMPETENCIES

• Have excellent knowledge of NMU Buildings and Services infrastructure.
• Have knowledge of regulations within the Health and Safety Act relating to chemical gases, machinery, scaffolding, ladders, etc.
• Have knowledge of supervising personnel.
• Have knowledge of reading, writing and calculation of technical data.
• Have good maintenance related skills.
• Have good knowledge of building plans & specifications.

REQUIREMENTS

To be considered for appointment to this post, candidates must have the following:

• N2 Qualification or Technical Grade 12.
• Accredited Trade Certificate Preferable Mechanical or other.
• 3 years relevant experience in General maintenance.
• Unendorsed Category B drivers license
