The purpose of the role is to be responsible for both Phaco and VitRet equipment, including demos, service (at point of sale) and essential consumables. You will represent Alcon in Surgical Accounts planning & execution acting as a key contact throughout the demo & close process, and hand over the account after the sale of our equipment.
As a Surgical Equipment Manager – Surgical Sales you will help achieve sales growth by ensuring strong customer relationships, selling our Phaco equipment and VitRet equipment as well as VitRet consumables in the KZN area. You will partner closely with Account Managers throughout the demo & close process and will run demos with support of Technical Service.
In this role, a typical day can include:
- Driving total sales performance for Phaco and VitRet equipment including Paks (at the time of sale)
- Ownership of cataract accounts and VitRet (in selected accounts only) plan development and execution.
- Provide end-to-end support for cataract and Vit-Ret customers (at the time of sales) in selected accounts, helping coordinate specialist roles activities & plans (market access, advances technologies, etc.).
- Map decision making process and key stakeholders to inform and implement the business plan.
- Play an active role in demand generation following up with contract negotiations. Prepare & negotiate quotes with customer.
- Derive insight and intelligence from the current customer environment and transform this understanding into successful commercial execution.
- Align with customers using a consultative sales approach to match Alcon products and services with customer & patient needs.
- Initiate and drive local events that serve customer´s needs.
- Convert from competition with value-based selling (involving product experts for particular product categories).
- Liaise with expert roles in case of more in-depth technical/clinical knowledge of a certain product is required to generate demand and/or implement solutions.
- Follow & report on competitor activities.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING TO ALCON:

- Deep knowledge of both the Phaco & VitRet portfolios.
- Ability to actively hunt for new leads, especially competitive conversions.
- Ability to articulate at a high level the benefit of AVS connectivity.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE
Main Responsibilities
:
- Learn about drugs and diseases at the highest standard and keep scientific knowledge up to date.
- Promote the company's products to healthcare professionals in order to educate them on the value that Menarini products bring to the patients/customers in the area.
- Manage a master-list of doctors (General Practitioners plus possibly a selection of Specialists) and Pharmacists to ensure the coverage of the right HCPs at the right frequency of visit (territory management). This will imply planning visits to individual HCPs, group presentations in hospital/clinics, attendance at local medical events or regional, national congresses.
- In case of activity in Pharmacy, tasks may be delivering scientific information to pharmacist, stock availability checking, servicing requests from pharmacists, educational events implementation, order taking where allowed, collecting general market feedback.
- Research competitor's medications and their respective market performances.
- Ensure the achievement of sales goals and targets in the assigned territory.
- Keep abreast of new developments in the medical field to determine the effect of such developments on the company's business strategies
- Establish and develop relations with key personnel in all facilities in the assigned territory.
- Provide reports to supervisor regarding territory status, to include forecasts, proposals and business reviews.

- Comply with the data integrity policy and commitment.
- Monitoring and analyzing the processes and ensuring that the necessary actions are taken for improvement.
- Maintaining, backing up and archiving (or ensuring that they are made) all records under her/his responsibility as determined and destroying the records under his/her responsibility as determined when the retention period expires.
- Fulfilling and implementing responsibilities mentioned in all procedures of the company.
- The process is managed in accordance with Company Procedures; s/he is responsible for ensuring that the activities of the inputs and outputs are correct, the resources are sufficient, the process is monitored, the records are kept, the performance is measured and, when necessary, reporting on these issues.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education Level:
At least Bachelor degree
Education Faculty / Department
: Pharmacy, General Medicine, Dental Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Life science or similar education
Work Experience
: Minimum 3 years' experience as a sales in the pharma industry.
Technical Knowledge
: Microsoft Office Skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

The role Medical Sales Representative will look after the Pretoria East area with a country trip to Limpopo responsible for promoting and/or selling the organization's products across multiple or non-specified channels in a designated territory by contacting specialists, physicians, dieticians, nurses and pharmacies.
What You'll Do
- Build and maintain relationships with key customers in the territory – including but not limited to Oncologists, Pediatricians, Dieticians, Intensivists, Pharmacists, clinic and hospital nurses, private and state hospital customers.
- Design and implement strategies to achieve sales goals and targets the territory
- Drive market share, volume growth, and sales targets by engaging with healthcare professionals and institutions.
- Meet customer call rate, days in field, coverage and frequency KPIs monthly
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with the customer base.
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities.
- Attend trade displays and presentations, including after-hours and weekends as needed.
- Participate in sales meetings, territory business reviews and conferences.
- Manage monthly expenditure in line with company guidelines.
- Arrange monthly scientific meetings with private and state customers.
- Ensure compliance with the company Code of Conduct at all times.
Qualifications and Expertise:
- Tertiary Qualification in Dietetics, medical or health sciences essential. Qualifications will be verified by Abbott.
- Minimum of 3 years of sales experience in the healthcare industry, with a preference for experience in adult and pediatric ICU, oncology, high care wards, and/or state facilities.
- Strong knowledge of the Pretoria East and Limpopo areas
- Previous experience in nutritional products is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills and self-motivation.
- Strong business planning acumen.
- Assertive, proactive, and enthusiastic.
- Valid driver's license – 3 years or more
