Job Description

We are looking for an Electronics Technician to join our team at Olarm.

As an Electronics Technician, you will be responsible for assembling, maintaining, and repairing electronic components and systems. You will work closely with the engineering and production teams to ensure that our products meet performance and reliability standards. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with electronic circuit boards, diagnostic tools, and troubleshooting techniques.

Key Responsibilities

  • Electronics Assembly & Testing
  • Assemble and test electronic circuit boards and components.
  • Perform functional and quality assurance testing of PCBs and finished electronic products.
  • Identify and resolve hardware or firmware-related issues during the testing process.
  • Follow test procedures and document results for quality control and traceability.
  • Troubleshooting & Repairs
  • Diagnose and repair faulty circuit boards, components, and electronic systems.
  • Use diagnostic tools such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, and logic analysers to identify issues.
  • Work closely with engineers to provide feedback on design improvements.
  • Production & Quality Control
  • Ensure that electronic components meet industry and company quality standards.
  • Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance on production equipment.
  • Assist in optimising production processes for improved efficiency and quality.
  • Maintain proper inventory levels of electronic components and tools.
  • Documentation & Compliance
  • Maintain detailed records of testing, troubleshooting, and repair work.
  • Follow safety and ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) protocols in handling electronic components.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards and regulations.
  • Any other reasonable task.

Requirements

  • Diploma or Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of experience as an Electronics Technician or in a similar role.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting electronic schematics and circuit diagrams.
  • Experience with soldering, rework, and PCB assembly.
  • Knowledge of microcontrollers, sensors, and embedded systems is a plus.
  • Familiarity with IoT devices and wireless communication technologies is advantageous.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.

  • Minimum of 1-2 years’ experience mentored and developed junior engineers.

  • Strong understanding of local, international codes and standards, preferably including those applicable to South Africa and the Middle East.

  • Strong technical and view of building services, focussing mainly on Electrical, and Electronics.

  • Strong proficiency in Revit would be an advantage working on your projects.

  • Strong proficiency in Dialux, EOM and other relevant electrical simulation software is highly advantageous.

  • Take responsibility for all aspects of operations including the sales team, service team, engineering and installations teams, stock and inventory management, office administration, and all Safety & Quality related matters
  • Will be required to direct the continued growth of this regional office and will need to work closely with the project managers servicing corporate clients and key projects in the region
  • Will be required to work with the company’s management executive to develop the growth strategy for their Cape presence and will work to grow the turnover and profitability, of each division in this region
  • Manage the costs and expenses and will provide monthly status reports to the Managing Director

Requirements:

  • BEng/BSc/BTech or National Diploma in Electrical Engineering
  • At least 10 years of experience in the electrical industry and involvement with heavy industry and/or mining
  • Management experience including personnel management, contracts management, financial management at an operational level
  • A solid grounding in engineering/electrical service industries would be beneficial

A Data Center Engineering Operations Technician role is a hands-on electrical and mechanical equipment troubleshooting and operation responder. Key job responsibilities
SAFETY
Follow and maintain the highest safety standards and diligently encourage a world-class safety culture. As a facility owner team, ensure remediation of safety risks/issues in conjunction with other teams. Own the safety initiatives and projects to foster strong safety culture.
ENGINEERING & FACILITY OPERATIONS AND MAINTENANCE
- Operational experience and familiarity with electrical and mechanical equipment, including Uninterruptable Power Supplies (UPS's), Switchgear, Circuit Breakers, Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS's), Diesel Generators, Chillers, Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning (HVAC), Exhaust Fans, Variable Frequency Drives (VFD's), and Transformers.
- Troubleshoot events within internal Service Level Agreements (SLA's)
- Take daily operational readings of all mechanical and electrical equipment through routine rounds/log-taking (temperatures, voltages, currents, etc.)
- Supervise contractors who perform servicing or preventive maintenance
- Manual handling and lifting of equipment may be required (weight limits in accordance with health & safety regulations).
- Ability to work shifts
