Requirements
- A bachelor's degree and master's or Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology
- Must be willing to apply for eligibility for registration with the Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA) via the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- Minimum 2 years clinical experience
- Demonstrated experience in psychological assessment, formulation, and treatment planning.

ES Clinical Counselling Psychologist Fixed Term until 31/03/2026
Applications are welcome from those who want to work flexibly, with a hybrid model of remote and on-site working requirements. You would be joining a friendly team of Clinical/Counselling Psychologists, CBT Therapists, Clinical Associates in Applied Psychology and trainees. Quite uniquely, you would sit within the Psychology team, while providing input into the secondary care Community Mental Health Service in the local CMHTs across NHS Highland. This has the benefit of regular contact and support from your Psychology colleagues, while also allowing you to establish good working relationships with our multidisciplinary teams. This post may be suitable as a development opportunity for someone wishing to gain experience in NHS work settings. Appropriate support and supervision would be provided.
Within the department there are a variety of therapeutic orientations, with our clinicians delivering a range of psychological therapies including EMDR, ACT, CFT, CBT, Schema Therapy, CPT. Specialist supervision groups are available as well as monthly departmental CPD meetings and peer supervision. Clinical supervision would be provided by more senior Clinical/Counselling Psychology staff working in the department. Clinical work would involve triaging and assessing people referred to the CMHT, for whom a psychological intervention is indicated. Psychological interventions would be delivered individually and in groups, in-person and online. An interest in trauma work would be beneficial and you would be well supported in developing competency in this area and further Continuing Professional Development (CPD) opportunities are supported. The role involves regular input to CMHT meetings, providing consultation to MDTs and there are also opportunities for providing training and supervision for other professionals.
The Psychology Service has strong working links with the West of Scotland Doctorate in Clinical Psychology and Masters training programmes; including opportunities for teaching, supervision of trainees, and research.

We provide a service to people accessing, and working within, the pan-Highland Drug and Alcohol Recovery Service. You will also be part of a wider NHS Highland Psychology Therapies service, with a range of disciplines providing psychology services across Highland.
Training in core psycho-social interventions as they apply to the drug / alcohol and mental health population will be provided, as will regular contact and supervision from the DARS Psychological Services Head of Service. Working in DARS Psychological Services would provide variety in terms of job roles, including clinical work, staff training, supervision, consultation, and service development (e.g. the implementation of the Medically-Assisted Treatment Standards).
