Responsibilities Include:

An opportunity has arisen within the Mental Health Assessment Unit. We are looking for a highly motivated nurse to join our team.

Crisis services (including Braeside, MHAT, OOH's triage, night NTL's, and OOH's CPN's) are currently undergoing organisational change. You will be part of service developments aimed at enhancing crisis services. Some developments include on-site assessments within persons' localities/homes and joint working with SAS and Police Scotland for joint response and assessments.

The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of assessing major mental illness or distress. You must be able to work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team, demonstrating sound clinical decision-making skills.

The post involves assessing mental state and risks such as suicide, self-harm, and violence within a holistic assessment framework. Some assessments may be nurse-led, others conducted jointly with medical colleagues, including police S297 assessments. The team provides a 24/7 triage service to Police Scotland, Scottish Ambulance Service, and NHS24.

You will be expected to work a 24-hour shift pattern. Part-time work will be considered.

Position Description

Position Summary

The primary responsibility of the Mental Health Worker will be to contribute to the achievement of the following core program functions: engagement and relationship-building; intake and screening; specialized assessment; care planning, clinical intervention and follow up; transition support, system navigation, advocacy and referral; consultation, education and support; program and system development; and service and program evaluation which are grounded in Indigenous knowledge systems, cultural safety, and trauma-informed practice.

The Mental Health Worker plays a key role in supporting the mental, emotional, physical and spiritual well-being of Indigenous individuals, families, and communities. This position supports wholistic mental wellness through engagement, relationship building, and community-based outreach.

This is a mobile outreach role that meets Indigenous clients, particularly those experiencing mental health and/or substance use challenges, in community settings, including homes, cultural spaces, and non-traditional environments. The worker supports individuals who may face systemic barriers to accessing mainstream mental health and addictions (MHA) services with compassion and works to build trust, increase access, and promote wellness through culturally grounded approaches.

Qualifications

  • Degree/Diploma in Nursing (RN) or Degree in Social Work (BSW or MSW) or Occupational TherapyORcurrent registration in good standing with the College of Psychotherapists with a Degree in a health-related discipline
  • Current registration with your college in good standing: College of Nurses (RN), Ontario College of Social Workers & Social Service Workers, College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario or College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario
  • Minimum 3-5 years experience in a comparable role working with the defined population required ( e.g. Indigenous communities)
  • Practical and related experience working with Indigenous communities and providing support and care to individuals for assessment and coordination of services
  • Lived experience of anti-Indigenous racism and impacts of colonization is required
  • Preference will be given to candidates with lived experience of Indigeneity with an understanding of barriers faced by Indigenous populations in the Hamilton, Six Nations, and Mississauga of the Credit areas.
  • Experience in identifying and addressing Indigenous patient health equity barriers.
  • CPI-Crisis Prevention Training (or successful completion as part of clinical orientation) is required
  • Demonstrated knowledge and practiced skills in working with mental health and addiction difficulties.
  • Knowledge and experience with anti-racist and anti-oppressive practice.
  • Knowledge of and experience with clinical interventions and approaches to promote mental wellness with Indigenous Peoples.
  • Understands the principles of Indigenous Health and can design, develop, implement and evaluate the effectiveness of coordinated treatment recommendations addressing mental wellness from a wholistic trauma-informed lens.
  • Demonstrated experience working with Indigenous communities, navigating institutional resistance and leading health equity and anti-oppression work and/or demonstrated experience supporting positive change in Indigenous inclusion
  • Proven ability to perform comprehensive mental health and addiction assessment and establish rapport with target population ( e.g. Indigenous communities)
  • Ability to assess client and staff education needs, develop and deliver appropriate Indigenous Health education interventions and/or referral connections for further supports
  • Ability to coach and support on matters of Indigenous Health, education, and motivational development
  • Understanding of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), Truth and Reconciliation Commissions Calls to Action, MMIWG Calls for Justice, and other related community developed guidelines, recommendations, and frameworks for equitable healthcare for Indigenous Peoples
  • Demonstrated ability in conflict resolution and crisis intervention
  • Demonstrated successful experience in effecting change and transformation in a unionized environment
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively and in partnership with a transdisciplinary team and partner agencies/organizations both on the team and in the community

Job Purpose

The Senior Forensic Mental Health Practitioner (FMHP) will hold a caseload across two Approved Premises (APs) located in Camden and Tulse Hill. They will provide psychologically informed assessments and interventions, drawing on approaches such as:

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
  • Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
  • Mindfulness
  • Psychoeducation

The goal is to equip service users with practical tools to better manage their mental health.

The Job Holder Will Work Collaboratively With AP Staff, Probation Practitioners, And Wider Partners To Deliver Holistic, Coordinated Support. This Includes:

  • Facilitating case consultations to enhance colleagues’ confidence and skills in supporting individuals with mental health needs
  • Actively contributing to team meetings to inform decision-making and support planning
  • Leading workshops for AP staff on topics such as mental health awareness, trauma-informed practice, and engaging effectively with healthcare partners

Key Responsibilities

Job-Specific Tasks And Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development and promotion of the service and Together by attending relevant forums
  • Creation and delivery of relevant information sessions to professionals
  • Work in partnership with other stakeholders
  • Facilitate learning in groups through presentations and activities both within Together and external agencies
  • Assess mental health and social care needs and provide a bespoke holistic support package
  • Understand and adhere to relevant safeguarding and risk management protocols
  • Empower people to lead on their support plan
  • Provide low intensity support interventions of psychoeducation using techniques such as Motivational Interviewing, CBT, and Compassion Focused Therapy
  • Support and deliver interventions to service users with complex needs and dual diagnosis
  • Contribute to the prevention and management of harmful and violent behaviour
  • Help people build self-esteem and increase motivation
  • Enable people to discover and access appropriate services and facilities
  • Support people to navigate and access services available to them as part of the bespoke care plan
  • Assist people whose care is being transferred between services/agencies by liaising as appropriate
  • Dynamically assess and manage risk, sharing need-to-know information with relevant agencies
  • Report back on outcomes directly to referrers and/or via clinical and multidisciplinary group meetings
  • Record keep, evidence work done, and ensure data is entered promptly and effectively onto relevant data management systems
  • Work with integrity within the service delivery model, ensuring consistency and quality of service provision
  • Maintain regular communication and updates with the wider team via phone, text, and emails
  • Develop and sustain effective working relationships with staff in other agencies
  • Develop a significant understanding of Together and its value system to present Together in a positive light
  • Advise statutory agencies about the needs of service users in the relevant geographical area(s) and identify gaps in the service
  • Research, prepare, and supply information to monitor the effectiveness of the service and produce statistical data as required to the service manager

Practicalities

  • Working Hours: 9am–5pm, Monday to Friday (37.5 hours per week)
  • Work-Related Travel: You may be required to travel from your base to different offices. Additional travel expenses incurred will be reimbursed in line with the expense policy
  • Role is Subject to:
    • Ministry of Justice vetting: Enhanced Level 1 clearance (applied for once role is offered and accepted)
    • Enhanced DBS clearance
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

  • Mental health assessment and intervention skills Ability to conduct psychological assessments and deliver evidence-based interventions (e.g., CBT, ACT, DBT, psychoeducation).
  • Risk management and safeguarding knowledge Understanding of safeguarding protocols and dynamic risk assessment in forensic settings.
  • Communication and collaboration Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with AP staff, probation officers, and external agencies.
  • Record keeping and data management Competence in maintaining accurate records and using data systems for reporting.
  • Training and facilitation Ability to deliver workshops and case consultations to professionals.
  • Experience working in mental health services At least 2–3 years in a mental health or forensic setting, ideally with experience supporting individuals with complex needs or dual diagnoses.
  • Experience in multi-agency environments Prior work in settings involving collaboration with criminal justice, social care, or healthcare professionals.
  • Experience delivering psychological interventions Demonstrated ability to apply therapeutic techniques in practice, even at low intensity.
  • Relevant degree or equivalent Degree in psychology, mental health nursing, social work, or a related field.
  • Professional registration (if applicable) Registration with a relevant body (e.g., HCPC, NMC, BACP) may be required or preferred depending on the employer.
  • Enhanced DBS clearance Mandatory for working with vulnerable individuals in criminal justice settings.

This position is classified as full- time, exempt (salaried) and reports to the Program Coordinator.

Work hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. This is a hybrid position which offers the flexibility to work on site and remotely.

What you will do as a Mental Health Professional at Arisa Health:

  • Interview/assess clients for mental health needs and perform individual, family and group therapy services.
  • Document, review, and maintain accurate case records and relevant clinical information.
  • Provide counseling and appraisal services to individuals or groups designed to develop an understanding of personal problems, to define goals, to plan activities to assess an individual’s aptitudes, attitudes, abilities, achievements, interests, and personal characteristics as these are related to personal social concerns, and educational progress.

A Vacancy exists for a Clinical Psychologist (POD), based at our Rehabilitation Unit at Life St. Dominic’s hospital in East London, reporting to Carina Basset, Therapy Services Coordinator. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring delivery of uncompromising quality care in line with Company Strategic Objectives and applicable Health Legislation.

Function Engineering Facility Life St Dominic's Hospital Position: Rehab Clinical Psychologist

Critical Outputs:

  1. Provide Clinical Psychology services to all patients admitted to the Life Rehabilitation Unit, upon referral from the Rehabilitation Doctor.
  2. Conduct assessments, plan programmes, and administer individual and group therapy treatments to patients with neurological disorders such as TBI, CVA, SCI, complex orthopedic conditions, multi-morbidity conditions such as Guillain Barre, etc., focusing on neuro-psychological baseline screening and complex psychotherapeutic intervention, in collaboration with other therapy disciplines.
  3. Provide sexual health management.
  4. Educate patients and their families about the patient’s condition and advise teams on management strategies.
  5. Contribute to weekly team and family meetings.
  6. Participate in discharge planning and carer training.
  7. Keep accurate and timely records and reports.
  8. Implement professional therapy services in accordance with Life Healthcare protocols and procedures.
  9. Work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team to meet quality patient care requirements.
  10. Respond to queries effectively and handle them accordingly.
  11. Attend and contribute to Continuous Professional Development activities of the unit.
  12. Promote and maintain sound, productive relationships with referral sources and stakeholders in the field of Rehabilitation.
  13. Requirements:

  • Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology and current HPCSA registration as a Clinical Psychologist.
  • Experience in neuropsychology and sexual health management in disability is an advantage.
  • Experience in multidisciplinary management.
  • Commitment to quality patient care and customer satisfaction.
  • Pass Verification assessment (e.g., Criminal check).
