Position Overview:


Purple Jacs is seeking a reliable, friendly, and customer-focused Cashier to join our team. The ideal candidate will handle all point-of-sale transactions using the ODC system , provide excellent customer service, and maintain accuracy in daily cash handling.



Key Responsibilities



  • Operate the ODC Point-of-Sale (POS) system to process all transactions.

  • Handle payments (cash, card, and digital transactions) quickly and accurately.

  • Assist customers with purchases, returns, and queries.

  • Manage cash float, balance till, and complete end-of-day reconciliations.

  • Keep the checkout area neat, clean, and welcoming.

  • Follow store policies on cash handling, security, and customer service.

  • Support with stock control, shelf-packing, and general store duties when required.




  • Matric | Grade 12 certificate (advantageous).




  • Previous experience as a cashier or in customer service preferred.




  • Knowledge of or experience with ODC Point-of-Sale system  




  • Strong numerical skills and attention to detail.




  • Basic computer literacy.




  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.




  • Trustworthy, punctual, and able to work independently

Overview

Cashier/Administrator – Branches

The Cashier/Administrator’s primary purpose is to provide administrative support to our operations. The successful candidate will be required to:

Responsibilities
  • Accurately identify commodities/correct grading and weigh commodities as the grade specifies
  • Ensure that an accurate weighbridge ticket is generated after every transaction
  • Ensure accurate weight deductions are made for all bins, crates, trolleys, bakkies, etc. for all weighbridge tickets
  • Accurately process all weighbridge tickets
  • Count and reconcile cash each day
  • Accurately pay scrap customers and dealers
  • Managing large cash receipts and payments accurately
  • Effective and efficient time management
  • Generate and maintain various reports
  • General office administration
Qualifying Experience
  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Basic Computer skills (MS Word, MS Excel and Microsoft Office)
  • Ability to work with numbers efficiently
  • Previous experience in administration and cashier duties essential
  • Code 08 driver’s license with own vehicle essential
  • Must be fully bilingual in English and Afrikaans (speak and write)
  • Excellent communication, telephone & organizational skills
  • Ability work independently and within a team
  • Great customer skills
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding working environment
  • Ability to handle a pressurized work situations

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Oversee all the operations of the Cashier department.
  • Know, understand, and adhere to company policies and procedures.
  • Customer service – meet customer needs and handle their complaints in the absence of the Store Manager.
  • Maintain an organized, clean, and safe work area around the cash office.
  • Respond to requests for assistance in all departments.
  • Assist the Store Manager in compiling financial reports and summaries for management.

  • Adhere to security procedures, including theft and disorderly customers.
  • Oversee the vendor relationship with the cash register supplier, ensuring proper functioning, prompt repairs, and timely request of any programming changes.
  • Develop and maintain the cashier training system. In addition, maintain and update the cashier training manual.
  • Oversee and ensure that there are adequate registers and front-end supplies.
  • Ensure cashiers are aware of price changes, specials, and all changes in store policies and procedures affecting cashiering.
  • Ensure on-the-job training using training checklists.
  • Oversee and direct tasks and projects for cashiers.
  • Conduct banking runs during the day.
  • Support upper-level management and fill in for absent personnel as required.
  • Complete all duties to company standards and promptly.
  • Report to the Office Supervisor and Store Manager.
