About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Program Manager / Engineering Manager to lead our technical and project division. Reporting directly to the Directors, this role plays a strategic part in driving operational excellence across engineering, drafting, project delivery, and technical sales.
The successful candidate will lead a high-performing team of 15+ professionals and have full oversight of the design and execution of structural systems used in our solar and renewable energy solutions. - BSc or BEng in Structural, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
- Minimum 15 years of experience in engineering and construction, with at least 10 years in leadership roles
- Strong background in steel structures, large-scale infrastructure, or solar mounting systems
- Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and integrate diverse technical functions
- Deep understanding of structural design, contract management, fabrication, and construction
- Highly experienced in project oversight, risk identification, quality assurance, and problem-solving
- PR.Eng registration is advantageous but not essential
- Experience in the renewable energy or solar sector preferred
- Exceptional communication, leadership, and stakeholder engagement skills

The Project Manager applies professional principles, practices, and techniques to develop and direct project schedules to ensure satisfactory completion of projects (within time, budget, and quality). This role has full responsibility across all assigned projects and manages stakeholder satisfaction, definition, planning, monitoring, and other aspects of these projects.

- Continuous improvement - monitor the execution of projects through the DetNet Design Process on an ongoing basis, identifying possible areas of improvement and manage the implementation of the agreed-upon improvements.
- Responsible for the entire project journey from requirements/feasibility (Phase 0) concept through to handover to channel partner/customer or supplier.

Job Description
We are seeking South AfricanSenior Project Managers with deep expertise in managing utility-scale Solar PV projects under EPC or IPP frameworks . This is a 12 to 24month contract assignment and potential opportunities after the project – offering the opportunity to drive the execution of major renewable energy infrastructure projects in South Africa.
You will be responsible for overseeing all phases of project delivery, from mobilisation and construction to final commissioning, ensuring timelines, budgets, and quality standards are met.
Full ownership of EPC / IPP solar PV project execution from site mobilisation to grid connection
Manage and coordinate engineering, procurement, and construction activities
Lead cross-functional teams including contractors, consultants, engineers, and HSE
Monitor project schedules, budgets, risk registers, and quality metrics
Conduct regular site visits and oversee construction progress
Engage with stakeholders, landowners, utilities (e.g. Eskom), and regulatory bodies
Ensure project compliance with national standards, grid code, and permitting requirements
Report progress and risks to senior management and investors
Drive resolution of technical and operational challenges
Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil) or Project Management
Minimum 10 years’ project management experience , with at least 5 years in utility-scale PV
Proven track record in EPC or IPP project environments in South Africa
Strong knowledge of construction methodologies, scheduling tools (e.g. MS Project, Primavera), and contract management
Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills
