- Hydraulic and mechanical fault finding on equipment.
- Remove and replace major components on mobile equipment.
- (e.g. Hydraulic valves, grabs, hydraulic cylinders, alternators, starter motors)
- Replace defective/ leaking hydraulic hoses, fittings and seals on mobile and stationary machines.
- Replace blades and regularly check blade clearance on Mobile Shear machines.
- Record and control stock levels of oils, hydraulic fittings, hydraulic cylinders, hydraulic pipes and spares that he uses frequently.

SA Steelworks has a position for a qualified, committed, hardworking and motivated Mechanical Fitter in the Fitters Department at our SA Steelworks Division in Cape Town. The successful applicant will report to the Fitters Supervisor.
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Implementing Company maintenance procedures, including:
- Conducting inspections on all plant machinery
- Conducting routine planned and preventative maintenance
- Working through a computerised maintenance management system
- Attending to breakdowns when required
- Setup and adjustment of machinery/equipment
- General housekeeping
- Adhering to Occupational Health and Safety Act
- Fit and assemble metal parts, tools or sub-assemblies, including welding or brazing parts
- Set up and/or operate hand and machine tools and welding equipment
- Examine detailed drawings or specifications to advice with regard to job, material and equipment requirements
