Key Responsibilities of this Role:

1. Fulfil the maintenance services and complete associated documentation at the various designated support locations as indicated below in accordance to the standards of the security systems and safety/risk procedures.

Main Activities of this role:

• Routine daily inspections and derive new notifications for faulty or non performing equipment.

• Do planned task list driven preventative maintenance on all current installations within the allowed time frames.

• Execute planned work that included improvements, repairs or replacements to current installations as well as new installations.

• Condition based maintenance.

• Execute breakdown maintenance based on the priority of equipment as highlighted by the procedure or on instruction of the security senior technician, senior technician, supervisor and manager.

• The accurate and timeous completion of maintenance work orders and schedules for all of the security equipment under the care of a technician must be handed back diligently in order to meet quality control targets that could affect his work performance.

• The execution of route cause failure analysis for equipment failures at all times that include all call-outs, breakdowns and any failures requested by the senior staff of Sibanye and the detailed documentation thereof as accurately as possible.

• Ongoing assessment and reporting of spare stock levels and the utilization of spares with the aim to provide early notice to Sibanye in order to prevent the depletion of spare stock capacity.

• The senior technician will be responsible for his own time management records and subsequent approval by the manager and of the technicians assigned under his supervision.

• The senior technician will be responsible for all necessary supporting documents like sick notes, leave forms, training nominations and other documents.

• Conduct weekly maintenance meetings. (File Inspections)

• Conduct weekly training sessions.

• Assist and mentor breakdown situations.

• Review objectives and actions against standards and procedures.

• Recognise achievements.

• Set monthly objectives.

• Compile a weekly maintenance/installation report.

The Role
To deliver high-quality service and technical support to our customers, coach colleagues and customer personnel with the aim of reducing downtime on customer machine availability.

Key Performance Areas:

  • Conduct your work in compliance with safety regulations and company policies to promote a safe work environment.
  • Install, repair, inspect and commission automation equipment at customer site or company premises.
  • Share knowledge and skills to enhance team skills.
  • Report back to the relevant stakeholders on service activities and outcomes
  • Advise on recommended maintenance and repair activities, equipment improvements, parts and services required to support customer's product/equipment/processes.
  • Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to support backline key activities such as labour planning, parts forecasting and inventory optimisation etc.
  • Communicate effectively with customers to understand their unique crushing and screening needs, and recommend solutions tailored to their applications.
  • Provide support to backline in identifying and tailoring customer solutions.
  • Diagnose and resolve equipment issues quickly and efficiently, minimizing downtime and ensuring smooth operations.
  • Plan own work schedule and manage any deviations or delays within the process.
  • Maintain tools and equipment for service work.

Your profile

  • Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent qualification
  • Trade Certificate – Electrical/Millwright
  • Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience on automation and Proximity Detection System (PDS) within the mining environment.
  • At least 2years' experience in:

  • Fault finding, electrohydraulic systems, auto electrical, hydraulics, PLCs, and remote-control systems.

  • Working in underground mining environments.

  • Physically and medically fit to work in a mining environment

  • Computer literacy
  • Own set of tools
  • English proficiency
  • Valid driver's license

Experience
  • 3 years' demonstrated experience in Underground explosives mining environment
  • 2 years' demonstrated knowledge of performing mechanical, hydraulic and electrical maintenance
Duties

Available quality assured product and equipment

  • Testing and quality assurance of the product
  • Transferring of product from surface silos transfer cassettes and Emulsion Charging Units
  • Usage of BME emulsion charging units

Trained/informed employees and relevant stakeholders

  • Provide training for mine personnel
  • Demonstrate the correct method for transporting emulsion technology
  • Demonstrate the correct method of operating emulsion pumps
  • Demonstrate the correct method for loading a blast face
  • Demonstrate the ability to support emulsion blasting operations without supervision
  • Lead a team of BME personnel in the technical support of underground blasting operations

Audited and reported/supported standards of tasks and operations

  • Manage quality control in underground storage areas
  • Monitor and support daily charging operations
  • Ensure regular inspections of sites, vehicles and equipment and that they ensure that standards are maintained
  • Oversees maintenance, inspections and production schedules of equipment and vehicles
  • Undertake benchmarking on daily blasting activities
  • Cultivates a culture among staff of neatness, cleanliness, and orderliness in line with SHERQ requirements

Maintained equipment

  • Repair & maintain emulsion equipment underground
  • Maintenance of charging unit equipment

Technical Support

  • Charging of blast holes according to blast design
