Purpose:

Our Global Health (GH) division harnesses advances in science and technology to save lives. We target high-impact diseases in developing countries that receive too little global attention. We support both the development of new health tools and the improved delivery of existing ones.

Our joint TB and HIV Program Strategy Team (PST) brings together efforts across R&D and delivery to accelerate the prevention and treatment of these diseases. We focus HIV efforts on high-burden countries in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) and populations most at risk, including adolescent girls and young women.

The HIV Delivery strategy aims to reduce HIV incidence and mortality by:
- Integrating product introduction and delivery functions to streamline uptake of innovations.
- Strengthening regional capacity, with a focus on South Africa, Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia and Zimbabwe, led by country governments and in partnership with other stakeholders.
- Partnering closely with data and analytics experts to inform decisions and monitor progress at global, national and sub-national levels.
- Enhancing accountability and operational efficiency across our investment portfolio.

Your Role

As Deputy Director, HIV Delivery , you will provide strategic and operational leadership across the full continuum of product introduction and delivery, with a focus on primary and secondary prevention, including HIV testing, treatment, and viral suppression.

Your role bridges the gap between innovation and impact—ensuring new prevention and treatment technologies are introduced efficiently and effectively, and that delivery platforms are prepared to scale them in a sustainable, equitable way. You will focus on high-burden geographies, notably South Africa, Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia and Zimbabwe, where the need for impact is greatest.

The role is based in Johannesburg . You will report to the Director, Health, Africa, with a dotted-line relationship to the Director, HIV & TB Delivery, to ensure implementation strategies are data-driven and outcome-oriented.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead the design and execution of a unified HIV product introduction and delivery strategy, focused on accelerating the uptake of innovations and achieving measurable reductions in HIV incidence and mortality through re-imagining the delivery platform for maximum efficiency and impact.

  • Oversee the country-level introduction and scaling of new prevention and treatment technologies, such as long-acting ARVs, novel diagnostics, and digital adherence tools supported by AI applications.

  • Align with ministries of health, implementing partners, and community actors to integrate new products into national health systems, guidelines, and service delivery platforms.

  • Partner with the Deputy Director, Evidence Generation, to ensure that strategy development, investment planning, and implementation monitoring are anchored in robust data and modeling.

  • Strengthen coordination across internal foundation teams (e.g., diagnostics, gender, PHC) to enable comprehensive, people-centered delivery models.

  • Provide strategic guidance to HIV Delivery team members and assist them in executing their portfolios with discipline and impact.

  • Shape investment portfolios that support market readiness, delivery systems, and implementation science; develop and manage grants and contracts that advance strategic priorities.

  • Represent the foundation externally with public and private sector stakeholders; contribute thought leadership to regional and global HIV delivery dialogues.

  • Facilitate learning and adaptation through regular portfolio reviews, partner engagement, and integration of implementation insights.

Your Experience

We seek a proven HIV delivery leader who brings experience in both product introduction and health system implementation, especially in sub-Saharan Africa, ideally with deep technical expertise in prevention and treatment programs.


Required Qualifications

  • PhD, MD, or equivalent in a related field.

  • Minimum 15 years’ experience in global health delivery, preferably including HIV program management and innovation introduction.

  • Demonstrated success introducing and scaling new health technologies within public and private health systems.

  • Familiarity with regulatory, policy, supply chain, and provider training considerations for product introduction.

  • Experience developing and managing large-scale investment portfolios and consortia.

  • Strong analytical skills, comfort working with data and modeling, and an ability to translate technical insights into strategic decisions.

  • Experience influencing government and donor stakeholders at regional and national levels.

  • Excellent communication, leadership, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

    The Solutions Architect will leverage their expertise in designing solutions with AWS technologies to:

    • Take ownership of the overall solution and design of our innovative platform, enabling marketers to deploy data pipelines via a user-friendly interface without relying on IT.
    • Collaborate with industry leaders to ensure the architecture is fit-for-purpose.
    • Define a technology strategy supporting the platform's evolution and roadmap.
    • Lead design activities to transform our current capabilities into a multi-tenant SaaS product.
    • Work within cross-disciplinary teams of UI/UX designers, architects, engineers, and data scientists across various domains.

    The ideal candidate is an enthusiastic self-starter prioritizing personal development, with opportunities to mentor colleagues and work with talented teams.

    We seek a highly skilled SaaS Solution Architect with experience in the telco industry, responsible for designing and optimizing our cloud-native SaaS solutions tailored for telecommunications providers. Experience with similar telecom products is highly valued.

    Responsibilities

    • Architectural Design: Develop and maintain the architectural vision for our telco-focused SaaS products, aligning with industry standards.
    • Scalability: Design solutions that are high-performance and scalable to meet telecom demands.
    • Collaboration: Work with cross-functional teams, including telco experts, developers, DevOps, and product managers.
    • Documentation: Maintain detailed architectural documentation.
    • Technology Selection: Choose appropriate telco-specific technologies, tools, and frameworks.

    Requirements and skills

    1. Cloud-Native Expertise (preferably AWS): Deep understanding of microservices, containerization, serverless, and orchestration technologies in telco contexts.
    2. Telecom-Specific Security: Designing products with industry-leading security measures, data protection, and compliance.
    3. Event-based Integration using Kafka/Kinesis
    4. Performance Optimization: Addressing telco-specific performance bottlenecks and optimizing solutions.
    5. Product Modeling for catalogue-driven sales and orchestration
    6. Familiarity with TMF or similar frameworks for channel architecture development.

    Our Johannesburg office based in Melrose Arch serves as the company`s Functional Hub for the Southern African Operations which include Global Services, Technology and Enterprise Resource Planning Support Teams.

    ABOUT THE ROLE:

    This role is a permanent full-time position.

    As a Manager Government Relations, you will be responsible to provide insight, advice and counsel to the Senior Manager External Affairs and broader South32 leadership regarding South African National and Provincial Government related and externally driven business/reputational issues.

    •lead and manage South32’s engagement with South African National and Provincial Government stakeholders;

    •represent South32 in senior-level engagement with relevant South African political and public policy stakeholders;

    •Protect and improve South32’s reputation through pro-active, relationship-based engagement with relevant political and government stakeholders.

    Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:

    •Undertake and support government stakeholder mapping and analysis; support, develop and implement South African Government stakeholder engagement strategies and plans;

    •Establish and maintain effective relationships with South African senior government officials and other agencies of government;

    •Support ex-South Africa government interactions with a South African government dependency;

    •Analyse South African Government public policy developments and relevant government(s) legislative direction and provide strategic insights and counsel to internal stakeholders;

    •Work closely with relevant internal stakeholders to ensure timely and accurate identification and mapping of business-critical issues with relevance to South African Government;

    •Collaborate with relevant external stakeholders on industry-wide concerns and support South32’s representation on key industry associations.

    ABOUT YOU:

    You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:

    •Significant experience in a similar role in a large, complex business preferably in mining;

    •Senior experience in developing and managing engagement with government stakeholders;

    •10+ years’ experience in government or managing government relationships.

    Qualifications for this role are:

    •Degree in social sciences, international relations or relevant discipline .
