Help us run an exceptional operations engine across multiple investment funds. Reporting to the COO, you’ll lead day-to-day fund operations, standardise processes, and ensure governance and reporting rhythms land on time, every time.

Role impact & key responsibilities

  • Run end-to-end fund operations across multiple vehicles (boards/committees, investor updates, audits, and reporting cycles) with on-time, high-quality delivery.
  • Standardise and improve processes and controls; document a single operating playbook with clear KPIs used across funds.
  • Digitise and automate workflows and reporting to cut cycle time and defects; surface performance via practical dashboards.
  • Coordinate stakeholders (internal teams, administrators, legal/compliance partners, and providers), removing blockers and keeping delivery on track.
  • Partner with Finance on audit/budget/close interfaces (Finance owns finance operations); ensure tight handoffs and governance.
  • Anticipate and mitigate risks, escalating concise, data-backed insights and recommendations to the COO.

Requirements

  • South African citizen
  • Fund management & operations experience (non-negotiable). You’ve run or coordinated operations for multiple funds or complex vehicles.
  • 5–7+ years in operations leadership in financial services/fund admin/legal/compliance environments.
  • Relevant degree (BCom/Business Science or similar). Advanced credentials (MBA/CA/CFA/Tax) are advantageous.
  • Proven track-record in process optimisation and digitisation with measurable outcomes (cycle time, error rate, cost, control).
  • Strong governance/compliance familiarity and high comfort with audits and investor reporting rhythms.
  • Clear, proactive communicator who aligns stakeholders and moves work forward.

Senior Counsel – Mastercard Commercial Solutions

Overview

Mastercard is a technology company in the global payments business, connecting cardholders, customers, financial institutions, merchants, governments, and businesses worldwide.

Mastercard Commercial Solutions is responsible for building and commercializing products and services to reduce complexity, cut costs, and automate processes in the B2B and travel payments ecosystems. The Commercial Solutions team aims to grow Mastercard’s market share in Corporate and Travel & Entertainment cards.

We are seeking an experienced lawyer to join our global legal team to support the Commercial Solutions team engaged in product development and sales.

Role

This Senior Counsel role requires strong commercial acumen and experience in supporting new product development within the financial services space. Responsibilities include:

  • Partnering with product, sales, franchise, marketing, and other teams to develop and launch innovative products that differentiate Mastercard and meet changing customer needs.
  • Structuring and negotiating a wide range of contracts, including complex technology agreements, customer, and vendor agreements, to drive issuer, merchant acceptance, and consumer adoption.
  • Collaborating with regulatory, compliance, data protection, and intellectual property counsel to identify issues and navigate legal risks.
  • Supporting business development teams in product sales initiatives.
  • Advising on commercial and contractual matters, including legal and business risk assessments.
  • Managing special projects alongside day-to-day legal matters.
  • Ensuring compliance with Mastercard policies and providing training.
  • Managing external counsel within policy and budget constraints.

All About You

  • Qualified lawyer, licensed in relevant jurisdiction.
  • Extensive legal experience, including in-house roles.
  • Familiarity with laws in the banking and payments sector is a plus.
  • Ability to understand complex business concepts and develop creative legal solutions.
  • Strong business acumen and interest in technology.
  • Excellent drafting and negotiating skills for complex contracts.
  • Broad exposure to transactional, commercial, and technology law issues.
  • Knowledge of data privacy and intellectual property issues.
  • Team player with a positive attitude.
  • Self-starter capable of working independently.
  • Experience with global agreements across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Flexible, solutions-oriented, and able to work under pressure.
  • Enthusiasm for Mastercard’s business and fast-paced environments.
