Responsibilities- Taking initiative in identifying and driving the legal, regulatory and compliance matters of the ODO group
- Drafting, reviewing and assisting with the negotiation of various commercial contracts on behalf of the ODO group (e.g. supplier agreements, trading terms and day-to-day operational agreements)
- Providing advice and guidance to the business
- Updating and refining template documents and company policies
- Assisting with dispute resolution and general litigation matters
- Monitoring and advising on new legal and compliance developments affecting the ODO group
- Advising on applicable legislation, in particular the Consumer Protection Act, the Companies Act and the Customs and Excise Act
- Conducting legal research and providing legal advice to the ODO group as required
- Providing or facilitating training on legal and regulatory matters
- Assisting with company secretarial matters
- Building and maintaining relationships with internal stakeholders of the ODO group
- Assisting with the contract management system
- Supporting the board as required
- Liaising with external legal counsel (where necessary)
- LLB, admitted attorney in South Africa
- 2-3 years post-admission experience at a well-established law firm or in the in-house legal department of a large corporate organisation
- Experience in corporate and commercial law is essential (particularly in drafting and reviewing contracts).
- Experience in e-commerce would be advantageous
- Proactive with the ability to work independently
