Summary:
The Laboratory Assistant I is responsible for supporting and providing customer service in the clinical laboratory department. This includes processing specimens and performing waived or moderate testing as directed by the Clinical Laboratory manager or director. Responsibilities encompass pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical duties, including receiving, processing, labeling, and distributing specimens, as well as testing specimens if indicated. The role requires effective communication with nursing and laboratory staff regarding specimen issues. The position demands a thorough understanding of laboratory specimens and HIS/LIS computer systems. Lab Assistants may also perform clerical duties as needed. Adherence to established protocols and procedures is essential to ensure quality patient results. The Laboratory Assistant I reports to an assigned Supervisor and works under the supervision of Technical Staff.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Ability to read, write, and comprehend English; perform computer functions; and process paperwork
• Professional telephone etiquette and effective verbal and written communication skills
• Problem-solving abilities when managing multiple complex variables
• Organizational skills, self-motivation, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to work assigned shifts
• Comfort working with human specimens (body fluids, urine, etc.)
• Completion of training in inventory handling and active participation in unpacking and storing inventory items

This position will assist with the daily pre-release QC sampling and confirmation testing of detonators. The position will also on an ad hoc basis assist with detonator destruction, testing of emulsion explosives and other laboratory test work as assigned.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 or equivalent

Experience

• 1 year demonstrated experience in Quality Control sampling and confirmation testing of detonators in a production environment
• 1 year demonstrated experience in Laboratory environment
• 1 year demonstrated experience in explosives production environment

Duties

• To assist in the daily pre-release QC sampling
• Confirmation testing of detonators and detonator assemblies; administration of test data
• Video capturing and analyses
• Good housekeeping and cleaning of laboratory actions
• Adherence to minimum safety standards and procedures

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct pre-procedure EP patient consultations in the clinic, including obtaining histories and ordering studies, labs, and diagnostics.

• Manage post-procedure follow-ups and wound checks in clinic.

• Perform detailed chart reviews to assess patient readiness and identify clinical concerns before procedures.

• Collaborate closely with cardiologists, nursing staff, and procedural teams to optimize patient care and procedural planning.

• Provide vascular access (arterial and/or venous) and serve as first assist during EP lab procedures, adhering to scope of practice and protocols.

• Document assessments, interventions, and communications in the Epic EMR system.

• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and ongoing education to promote best practices in cardiovascular care.

• Assist with post-procedure care coordination.

Qualifications:

• Masters degree

• Graduate of approved Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program with certification.

• BLS and ACLS certification required.

• Provider experience in cardiology, especially in Cath/EP lab, critical care, or procedural medicine preferred.

• Proficiency in vascular access techniques strongly preferred.

• Strong communication, organizational, and critical thinking skills.

• Experience withEpic EMRis a plus.
