The Role
We have an exciting vacancy for aScientific Engagement Assistant to work between our Science and Conservation Education & Engagement Teams.
The Scientific Engagement Assistant will combine practical science skills with strong science communication, supporting the Science and Conservation Education & Engagement (CE&E) teams to disseminate one of Chester Zoo’s specialised areas of scientific innovation, Wildlife Endocrinology, both with the public and with scientific stakeholders.
They will use knowledge and understanding of our leading scientific practice to carry out practical science work alongside the Conservation Physiology & Reproduction team and contribute to the dissemination of this work with the scientific community. By consolidating learning from hands-on science practice, they will collaborate with colleagues across the Conservation & Engagement teams to develop and deliver engaging, interactive activities designed to share our science activity in an accessible, creative and inspiring way in the Chester Zoo lab exhibit. The role will sit between the Science and CE&E teams equally, with a mixture of practical lab work and engagement activity paired with time for consolidation of learning, content development, sharing and dissemination.
Within our Science Department, the Scientific Engagement Assistant will be based within our International Centre for Zoo Science, working primarily in our Wildlife Endocrinology Laboratory. They will support the Conservation Physiology & Reproduction team with routine laboratory work, including organizing sample shipments, cataloguing and processing samples, running assays, preparing buffers and reagents, washing dishes, stock control, maintenance of freezer sample database, maintaining laboratory cleanliness, maintaining accurate and detailed records and ensuring quality control. They will support the Science Department to ensure Chester Zoo maintains the highest external reputation and credibility as a world-leader in one of the zoo’s specialised areas of scientific innovation and research excellence and contribute to specific programme projects, effectively translating scientific outputs on projects to maximise conservation impact to achieve Chester Zoo’s conservation strategies and mission.
Within our CE&E Department, the Scientific Engagement Assistant will translate their practical lab experience and findings into creative, interactive activities in the Chester Zoo lab exhibit. They will engage the public with our pioneering science work and build connections to grow Science Capital, encouraging our visitors to see that science is relevant to their life. They will support embedding STEM engagement across our in-zoo engagement activity, with a particular focus on connecting young people with STEM careers. Taking an organised, collaborative approach, they will develop and deliver inspiring, innovative engagement activities to a high standard, evaluate impact and reach and ensure activity is safe and tailored to the needs of the audience.
We’re looking for someone who can:
- Contribute to the Conservation Physiology and Reproduction research programme using technically robust scientific methods, particularly laboratory skills

As a Scientific Engagement Assistant you will:
- Science Projects: Support the Lead Conservation Scientist with the Conservation Physiology & Reproduction programme annual tactical plan by working on prioritised research projects within one of the zoo’s areas of expertise and working collaboratively both internally and externally to deliver novel research projects.
- Laboratory Work: With support from the Lead Conservation Scientist, conduct laboratory work and ensure data is of high standard, robust, and delivered in a timely manner to support the delivery of research that contributes to the scientific capacity and reputation of the programme and results in evidence-based decision making.
- Science Dissemination: Contribute towards the dissemination of the programme’s science outputs to key scientific stakeholders including peer-reviewed and non-peer reviewed publications or suitable external meetings to influence and advise external professional committees/boards.
- CE&E Projects: Support the Conservation Education and Engagement Directorate strategic plan by increasing the impact of a zoo visit, working collaboratively with teams across schools, public programmes and volunteering to animate the Chester Zoo demonstration lab and share our pioneering science work with the public.
- Education & Engagement Content Development and Delivery: Develop skills and knowledge in the areas of conservation education and engagement, using a variety of engagement approaches to create and deliver audience focussed content. Follow policies, standard operating procedures, safe working practices and best practice, and ensure compliance with all relevant guidelines and legislation.
- Conservation Education Evaluation and Dissemination: Set clear, audience focussed objectives and work with the wider team to measure the impact of activity against these objectives. Contribute to reports for internal and external stakeholders, including funders. Work collaboratively to share new learning regarding Chester Zoo science activities with the wider team to inform activity across the Directorate.

The Prostate Cancer Study is a collaborative project between Anova Health Institute Stanford University and Arizona State University funded by the Stanford Cancer Institute. The study focuses on prostate cancer screening.
We are looking for Research Assistants who will be responsible for screening men for prostate cancer in selected clinics in City of Johannesburg.
Key Duties and Responsibilities :
Recruit and receive referrals of highrisk men.
Schedule and arrange appointments for clients at the clinics
Provide comprehensive counselling to promote retention in line with Anova policies and guidelines
Refer the Not Yet Ready to the Social Auxiliary Worker after utilising the Adherence plan
Promote and facilitate PCa testing and facilitate partner disclosure using the PCa Screening Tool and actively refer for testing.
Promoting case finding for men.
Specifically focus on men in line with Anova work plan.
Provide Adherence Counselling to men.
Referral of men to relevant services e.g. (Index Testing PrEP GBV)
Recruit and refer patients to IACT adult individual counselling or support groups
Attend weekly Mens health Meetings.
Act upon the recommendations and outcomes of the Mens Health Meetings.
Collaborate with Ward Based Outreach team Dietician Lay Counsellors and Clinicians for bilateral referrals.
Reporting
Report daily with numbers if men mobilised linked to care
Keep an updated record of number of clients offered adherence counselling linked into care index testing and partner disclosure IACT individual session and support groups referrals in line with stationery used by and Anova.
Adhere to facility reporting format for data and report according to facility protocol.
Report as per agreed timelines to Mens health nurse at the facility or other Anova team members as required
Administration
Be available to work on weekends & / or Public Holidays to provide mobilise recruit men and provide adherence counselling at facilities when required a minimum of at least one Saturday per month (When required).
Attend Anova team & staff meetings as required
Timeously complete and submit leave forms and timesheets as per Anova policy
Engagement with Anova staff
Form part of the facility team and work 8 hours daily according to their agreed upon starting & finishing time
Form part of a multidisciplinary teams within Anova to promote 90% retention.

Your Role at ImpactWe're seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Market Research Assistant to join our marketing research team. This role is perfect for someone who wants to dive deep into market research while supporting critical business insights that drive strategic decisions. You'll work closely with our Senior Market Research & Analytics Manager and Director of Content to coordinate projects, analyze data, and help bring research findings to life for internal and external stakeholders.
What You’ll Do Research Project Support- Coordinate research project logistics, including vendor communications and participant incentive programs
- Organize and maintain research archives for easy access and knowledge sharing
- Support survey development from design through testing and launch
- Draft benchmark research reports using established templates and formats
- Assist with research report promotion by preparing key insights and supporting materials
- Prepare data for analysis
- Perform basic statistical analysis
- Create presentations and reports from research findings
- Collaborate with internal teams to enhance data visualization and reporting
- Survey tools: Experience with survey platforms like SurveyMonkey or Qualtrics, including implementing survey logic (skip, branching, quotas) and performing QA testing.
- Data skills: Expertise in Excel or Google Sheets for cleaning and structuring raw data, using pivot tables, charts, and formulas to identify key insights.
- Presentation tools: Strong skills in PowerPoint, Google Slides, or similar for creating reports and decks
- Research fundamentals: Understanding of effective survey design, principles of question construction, and data collection methodologies
- Communication: Strong written and verbal skills for clear reporting and team collaboration
- Organization: Excellent time management with ability to handle multiple projects
- Detail-oriented: Careful approach to data accuracy and quality control
- Hybrid : The ability to work at our Cape Town office 1-2 times per week with the line manager.
- Experience with project management tools (e.g., Asana, Jira)
- Data visualization skills (can be learned on the job)

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled individual to join the Histology and Imaging Core in the Department of Pathology, Microbiology and Immunology at New York Medical College. The histotechnologist is responsible for day-to-day operations of the core providing routine histology and special staining, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence and cryotomy services to the research community at NYMC and outside entities and to maintain the laboratory.
Responsibilities- Perform histology procedures including tissue processing, embedding, sectioning, staining, and mounting of tissue samples
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment and instruments
- Maintain accurate records
- Adhere to laboratory safety protocols and quality control standards
- Prepare reagents and solutions for laboratory procedures
Education requirement: High School Diploma. An associate degree in histotechnology from a program accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) is optional

About the workThrough the collaboration of UNU-WIDER, the National Treasury and the South African Revenue Service over the past few years, South African administrative micro tax data has been made available for research purposes. This puts South Africa at the forefront of big data research for development and puts the country in a novel position relative to other developing (and some developed) countries. The tax data — the global best practice in some avenues of research — has opened avenues for research in areas and topics that were not possible before in South Africa.

Duties and responsibilitiesUpdate the various tax datasets held at the NT-SDF on a rolling basis
Continually improve and expand the datasets
Perform quality assurance checks and analyse trends in the data
Assist in drafting, reviewing and revising documentation related to the data
Provide research assistance through data analysis, literature reviews, drafting documents
Assist researchers with data related queries and review their data output to ensure data confidentiality
Assist with day-to-day operations of running the National Treasury - Secure Data Facility

RequirementsMasters in Economics or Econometrics. Candidates who are close to completing their Masters will also be considered

No extra payments for housing or living expenses will be made. Project-related costs will, however, be covered by the project.
