Job Description

-As our Geometallurgist of your responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Function as a role model and support a workplace culture where safety and health for the site are paramount.

  • Keep environmental impact within statutory requirements to ensure compliance with statutory requirements is met.
  • Active participation in VFLs, Risk Assessments and close-out of Safety Actions.
  • Performance and Delivery
  • Geometallurgical data gathering:
  • Assist the Senior Exploration Geologist in planning a spatially representative geometallurgical sample acquisition campaign.
  • Generate geometallurgical borehole data by ensuring that the Kumba Geometallurgical protocol is catered for in the exploration programme and overseeing that sampling, sample preparation, and test work for geometallurgical purposes are conducted according to the protocol by performing the required QA/QC checks.
  • Capture geometallurgical borehole data in relational geometallurgical tables in the borehole database.
  • Geometallurgical data analyses:
  • Analyse geometallurgical data to understand statistical and spatial variability.
  • Correlate proxy results (usually generated on-site) with laboratory test results to establish relationships to enable subsequent time and cost-efficient generation of metallurgical point data.
  • Structural mapping and data acquisition:
  • Deposit scale structural data acquisition from inside the Sishen pit and regional and local maps/aerial photographs.
  • In-pit measurement of structural information such as joint sets, faults, folds and bedding monthly.
  • Capturing structural geology data from core exploration boreholes.
  • Structural interpretations:
  • Deposit scale structural interpretations in a 3D modelling software package like Leapfrog to define the structural controls for ore distribution.
  • Ad-hoc Projects:
  • Assist with geosciences-related development projects.
    Assist in generating input required for projects generated by Kumba Iron ore, which can, in the future, complement the operation's bottom line and act as the liaison between the Project Team and the Geology Section on site to provide geological input per project schedule.

This role is in Discovery & Geosciences (GEO) NC department on a band 6 (D1) level reporting to the Section Manager Exploration & Geometallurgy

Qualifications

  • -Grade 12
  • Relevant National Diploma NQF6
  • B Tech /B-Degree: Geotechnical (NQF7) – Advantageous
  • Advanced Certificate
  • SA Drivers Licence (CodeEB/E)
  • Registered with the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions (SACNASP) would be advantageous.

Technical Knowledge

    • 3-5 years of experience in Production and Exploration Geology.
  • Possesses a solid understanding of Geometallurgy and Structural Geology.
  • Knowledge of project management, from initiation to completion.
  • Familiar with mapping techniques and borehole data analyses.

Background

An implementation study on the dapivirine vaginal ring (DVR) was conducted in South Africa, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Uganda and Eswatini. The study generated quantitative data on uptake, adherence, and user experiences. We are seeking a qualified Biostatistician to support data analysis for an implementation study on the dapivirine vaginal ring, a long-acting biomedical HIV prevention method. The consultant will analyze quantitative data on uptake, adherence, and user experiences, producing report and publication-ready results to inform regulatory, policy and programmatic decisions.

Scope of Work

· Review study protocol, objectives, and datasets.

· Develop and finalize a statistical analysis plan (SAP).

· Clean and merge datasets

· Conduct appropriate statistical analyses, including descriptive, inferential, and multivariable analyses

· Provide guidance on data quality, management, and handling of missing data.

· Generate report and publication-ready tables, figures, and outputs.

· Contribute to interpretation of findings and drafting of results sections for reports and manuscripts.

· Participate in virtual meetings with the study team as needed.

Deliverables

· Finalize statistical analysis plan.

· Clean and merge datasets

· Write reproducible code (Stata/R/SAS preferred) and conduct appropriate statistical analyses.

· Comprehensive results tables and figures (report and publication ready).

· Analytical report summarizing findings.

· Contributions to reports, manuscripts, policy briefs, and presentations as needed.

Qualifications

· Advanced degree (MSc) in Biostatistics, Statistics, or related quantitative field, PhD preferrable.

· Demonstrated experience in analyzing implementation science or public health studies.

· Proficiency in Stata, R, or SAS.

· Strong track record of peer-reviewed publications or reports.

· Familiarity with HIV prevention research and/or women's health interventions desirable.

· Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.

Level of Effort & Duration

Estimated 12 days per month (3 days/week) over 12 months (with flexibility based on agreed scope) from 01 November 2025 to 31 October 2026. Remote, with communication primarily via email/virtual meetings.
