- Lead the design and engineering of solar power systems, including photovoltaic (PV) arrays, inverters, storage systems, and electrical distribution.
- Develop and review technical specifications, drawings, and calculations for solar projects.
- Ensure compliance with local regulations, codes, and standards related to solar energy installations.
- Provide guidance, mentorship, and technical support to team members.

To manage and develop all aspects of electrical services.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES- Manages the Electrical & Control Support Team through the monitoring of technical aspects and equipment, budget and staff control.
- Liaises with ABB, Siemens, (various suppliers) with regard to the control and administration of spares and services for Variable Speed Drives, PLC’s, and Electrical Switchgear.

- Carries out general administrative work associated with the DCS/PLC/SCADA/drives.
- Liaises with vendor representatives and educational institutions with regard to advancements in technology and equipment, as well as the application and acquisition thereof, when necessary.
- Ensures that records, technical data books and engineering drawings pertaining to Electrical installations and equipment are kept updated.
- Provides technical backup for plant Instrument / Electrical Supervisor, Technicians, Mechanicians and Electricians.
- Recommends change to infrastructure according to the changing business and technological environment.
- Ensures correct maintenance is done on transformers and H.T. Switchgear by outside contractors and that records are kept up to date and correct.
- Supervises maintenance of H.T. power supplies and substation buildings.
- Liaises with Eskom regarding maintenance of supply lines and switchgear.
- Manages the Electrical Workshop, Boilers Electrical, Water Treatment Electrical, Services Electrical and Main 6,6kV supply Substations through the monitoring of technical aspects and equipment, budget and staff control.
- Liaises with Electrical Supervisors and the Commercial Department with regards to Stores coverage of new and existing equipment.
- Liaises with motor re-winders and ensure that repairs are carried out to acceptable standards.
- Performs Mill standby duties as and when required.
- Engineers and manages Electrical related projects, or electrical content of multi-disciplinary projects, through the monitoring, design and implementation of all technical aspects of such projects.
- Looks after cranes, HVAC and UPS systems.
- Exercises strict project budget, quality and progress control ensuring that customer requirements are met every time.

- High level of specialised computer skills is key to this role, e.g., Autodesk suite of software, especially AutoCAD, Helioscope or other solar PV design experience will be beneficial, ReticMaster, DIALux and Relux.
- Experience in AutoCAD/REVIT, as well as scheduling software like MS Projects will be an added advantage.
- Proven ability to execute designs, work as part of a team, as well as manage small to medium projects.
- High level of general computer skills, e.g., MS Office suite of software, especially Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, etc.

Responsibilities- Working on Cape Town Utility Optimization with solar energy storage system
- Functioning as the Electrical Engineer, providing OBO/Cape Town a full range of critical engineering and construction quality assurance and management and technical oversight of the Cape Town UTILITY OPTIMIZATION
- Ensuring that the contractor is performing the required contract work in accordance with the design documents
- Performing technical inspections of electrical work, monitoring the contractor's quality control program, and reviewing project drawings and specifications to ensure compliance
- Supporting and assisting OBO/Cape Town in ensuring the completion of the project in accordance with contract requirements
- Reviewing engineering shop drawings and determining if the contractor has complied with the final design parameters
- Observing onsite construction and determining if construction elements are being installed, formed, and executed properly
- Performing quality assurance tasks, ensuring contractor's work is properly inspected and corrective actions take place, ensuring materials meet contract, reviewing contractor submittals for compliance with contract requirements, and resolving conflicts
- Monitoring the construction contractor’s quality assurance and safety program
- Monitoring construction progress vis-à-vis the project schedule and submitting weekly progress reports with recommendations based on the technical review of project documents and field inspections
- Performing technical inspections of the electrical elements of the project
- Developing working knowledge of all technical requirements of project
- Providing Quality Assurance for ongoing construction project
- Reviewing contractor submittals
- Evaluating proposed submittal substitutions with engineering implications; making recommendations to the Project Director
- Coordinating the development of Independent Government Estimates (IGEs) for modifications and change orders
- Preparing Monthly Progress Reports and attending meetings summarizing project status, with emphasis on engineering

Filling this position is contingent upon funding.
Requirements- An electrical engineering degree (Bachelor’s or above) from an accredited program and a minimum of seven (7) years of experience required on construction projects of similar scope and dollar value to the project supported by this Task Order
- Design office experience shall not count toward an employee’s experience
- A Professional Engineering License (PE) is acceptable in lieu of a degree
- Overseas experience is preferred
- Must have Final Secret, Interim Top Secret (TS), or Final TS security clearance issued by the Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency (DCSA) at the time of consideration
- Knowledge of International Codes required
- Experience in assessing and responding to RFIs
- Experience in reviewing and evaluating design calculations and data from an engineering perspective
- Knowledge of Construction Safety regulations, i.e. EM 385-1-1, OSHA, etc.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Suite, i.e., PowerPoint, Excel, and Word required
- Photovoltaic and energy storage and Optimization of Solar Energy and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) background
- Must be able to read design/construction drawings and be able to understand design narratives and calculations

As part of the engineering team, you will play a key role in the design, execution, and commissioning of projects. You will work across the full project lifecycle, ensuring systems are designed to the highest standards and delivered seamlessly from concept to operation.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and optimise system designs for solar PV, BESS, and hybrid solutions
- Conduct feasibility studies, load assessments, and system sizing
- Prepare technical drawings, layouts, and single line diagrams in line with SANS and NRS standards
- Collaborate with project managers, site teams, and suppliers to ensure alignment on technical scope
- Oversee site execution, installation quality, and commissioning activities
- Support troubleshooting and performance optimisation of deployed systems
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and regulatory requirements
Qualifications and Experience
- BEng or BScEng Electrical Engineering, or BEng Mechatronics
- 2 - 5 years of experience in solar PV, battery storage, or hybrid power projects
- Proficiency in design and simulation tools such as PVSyst, PV*Sol, AutoCAD or Electrical CAD
- Strong knowledge of power systems, DC and AC design, protection, and integration
- Experience in commissioning and quality control of renewable energy systems
- Familiarity with South African grid codes, embedded generation, and utility standards
- Afrikaans and English proficiency is preferred

PROJECT DURATION: 18 MONTHS WITH EXPECTED FOLLOW-ON WORK WITHIN THE DoS PROGRAM
- Working on Cape Town Utility Optimization with solar energy storage system
- Functioning as the Electrical Engineer, providing OBO/Cape Town a full range of critical engineering and construction quality assurance and management and technical oversight of the Cape Town UTILITY OPTIMIZATION
- Ensuring that the contractor is performing the required contract work in accordance with the design documents
- Performing technical inspections of electrical work, monitoring the contractor's quality control program, and reviewing project drawings and specifications to ensure compliance
- Supporting and assisting OBO/Cape Town in ensuring the completion of the project in accordance with contract requirements
- Reviewing engineering shop drawings and determining if the contractor has complied with the final design parameters
- Observing onsite construction and determining if construction elements are being installed, formed, and executed properly
- Performing quality assurance tasks, ensuring contractor's work is properly inspected and corrective actions take place, ensuring materials meet contract, reviewing contractor submittals for compliance with contract requirements, and resolving conflicts
- Monitoring the construction contractor’s quality assurance and safety program
- Monitoring construction progress vis-à-vis the project schedule and submitting weekly progress reports with recommendations based on the technical review of project documents and field inspections
- Performing technical inspections of the electrical elements of the project
- Developing working knowledge of all technical requirements of project
- Providing Quality Assurance for ongoing construction project
- Reviewing contractor submittals
- Evaluating proposed submittal substitutions with engineering implications; making recommendations to the Project Director
- Coordinating the development of Independent Government Estimates (IGEs) for modifications and change orders

FILLING THIS POSITION IS CONTINGENT UPON FUNDING
Requirements- An electrical engineering degree (Bachelor’s or above) from an accredited program and a minimum of seven (7) years of experience required on construction projects of similar scope and dollar value to the project supported by this Task Order
- Design office experience shall not count toward an employee’s experience
- A Professional Engineering License (PE) is acceptable in lieu of a degree
- Overseas experience is preferred
- Must have Final Secret, Interim Top Secret (TS), or Final TS security clearance issued by the Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency (DCSA) at the time of consideration
- Knowledge of International Codes required
- Experience in assessing and responding to Requests for Information (RFI)
- Experience in reviewing and evaluating design calculations and data from an engineering perspective
- Knowledge of Construction Safety regulations, i.e. EM 385-1-1, OSHA, etc.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Suite, i.e., PowerPoint, Excel, and Word required
- Photovoltaic and energy storage and Optimization of Solar Energy and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) background
- Must be able to read design/construction drawings and be able to understand design narratives and calculations
- Must understand and be able to interpret drawings in his/her discipline and have an understanding of the principals of his/her discipline and how it fits in with other disciplines
