Our client in the EPCM industry is looking for a Construction Manager to lead the overall planning, direction, organization, and budgeting of all construction activities, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. The role involves conceptual development, scheduling, implementation strategies, and coordination between the client, contractors, and project team.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead safety planning for construction execution methods in collaboration with the Project Manager and Site Health & Safety Manager.
- Ensure compliance with all local regulations, statutory requirements, and health & safety legislation.
- Obtain necessary permits, licenses, and certifications before construction commencement.
- Oversee the constructability process through the Constructability Coordinator.
- Develop field procedures and objectives aligned with corporate policies and site conditions.
- Coordinate with the client, project management, and services teams on reporting requirements.
- Liaise with the client, engineers, and contractors to ensure safe, timely, and cost-effective delivery.
- Review and approve construction estimates, budgets, schedules, and forecasts.
- Evaluate construction drawings and specifications, identifying erection strategies and methods.
- Anticipate and address potential construction challenges proactively.
- Develop site organization, staffing requirements, and resource allocation strategies.
- Support procurement in reviewing contracts with clients, suppliers, and contractors.
- Manage contractor performance, claims, and compliance with contract terms.
- Chair contractor progress, cost, and safety meetings.
- Coordinate shutdowns, relocations, and tie-ins with minimal disruption.
- Direct, motivate, and manage subordinate construction specialists.
- Participate in labour studies, manpower sourcing, and industrial relations strategy.
- National Diploma/relevant trade certificate with extensive construction management experience.
- Professional registration with SACPCMP (required).
- Minimum of 15 years' construction experience, including 5-7 years in Construction Management.
- Legally appointed as Construction Manager on projects (required).
- EPCM mining and construction environment experience.
- Strong safety management background with knowledge of relevant legislation.
- Experience working on projects across Africa.
- Be willing to travel extensively within Africa.
