IntroductionWe are looking for a Nursing Practitioner (6 month Relief Contract) to join our Employee Wellness team. This position will be based at our Head Office in Cape Town, reporting to the Employee Wellness Practitioner.
JOB PURPOSE
To advance the employee wellness by effectively administering the clinic services for the National Support Service Centre (NSSC).
JOB OBJECTIVES
- To organise the clinic functions so in a manner which ensure the relationship between people, work and resources are maximised to achieve agreed objectives;
- To provide primary healthcare, family planning and preventative health care services through knowledge, quality care and ethical practices;
- To promote, co-ordinate and perform prompt effective medical assistance to employees in acute, emergency and chronic situations;
- To ensure that the clinic environment is kept to a professional and clean state whilst ensuring the clinic is adequately stocked to carry out the clinic mandate;
- To maintain accurate and up to date medical records and/or reports to track patient health/illness whilst ensuring strict patient confidentiality;
- To educate employees on health-related topics which enhance/promote the EWP service offering;
- To report on clinic activities in an accurate, timeous manner leading to pro-active management of potential health & safety hazards;
- To effectively build internal and external relationships to optimise the Clinic Services
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Registered with the SANC (primary healthcare & family planning)
- A Primary Healthcare certificate (essential)

- Treats wounds and provides advanced life support.
- Assists physicians with procedures such as bronchoscopy, endoscopy, endotracheal intubation, and elective cardioversion.
- Ensures operation of medical and administrative equipment by verifying emergency equipment availability; completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques.
- Responding to life-saving situations, using nursing standards and protocols for treatment.
- Provides care for pre-and post-operative patients when those patients require ICU care.
- Prioritizes nursing care for assigned critically ill patients based on assessment data and identified needs.

Key Responsibilities
Clinical Tasks:
- Develop and implement individualized care plans for each resident.
- Conduct regular reviews and updates of care plans to reflect residents' evolving health conditions.
- Ensure care plans align with both medical and personal needs of residents.
- Monitor staff compliance with care plans and established protocols.
- Conduct high-risk assessments and accurately document essential information.
- Uphold best practice methods and principles in all clinical tasks performed within the facility.
- Ensure the safe and proper administration of medication by self and nursing staff, adhering to established medication management procedures.
- Ensure medication is appropriately stored, and blister packs are managed according to procedures.
- When required implement and maintain infection control protocols
- Manage the stock including the need to amend par levels or restock items in the supply cupboard.
- Follow established policies in the event of emergencies, including calling Emergency Services as needed for the Healthcare Facility or Village.
- Act according to patients' living wills or advanced directives during emergencies or resuscitation efforts.
- Ensure the multidisciplinary team (MDT) and families are promptly informed of any incidents or resident deaths.
Qualifications:
- SANC registered as a Registered Nurse.
- Up-to-date Basic Life Support certification is advantageous.
- Proven experience as a Shift Leader / Duty Sister
- Experience in a similar position
- Knowledge of Dementia care, Frail care, and Palliative care is advantageous.
- Proficiency in organizing and delivering training sessions for staff development.
- Experience in scheduling and managing staff shifts.
- Clinical Expertise: Strong clinical skills and experience in nursing practice, including assessments, treatments, and patient care.
