The Maintenance Technician is responsible for, including but not limited to, preventive maintenance, breakdown maintenance, planned maintenance, servicing, refurbishing, installation activities on all mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, instrumentation related equipment and civil maintenance related tasks on buildings / facilities and sites.

• Maintain accurate records on preventative / breakdown / planned / unplanned maintenance activities and utilise as input into stock maintenance system.
• Adhere to OHSA regulations and requirements with regards to safe work practices / procedures including but not limited to confined space / pressure vessels / switching gears / working at heights / isolation of equipment and other regulations as required.
• Make recommendations and actively participate in making modifications / improvement initiatives for equipment to ensure optimum productivity, efficiency and utilisation of equipment.
• Install / change / fix water / steam / air / hydraulics / pneumatic pipelines, valves, and other mechanical and electrical equipment.
• Compile / interpret drawings, blueprints, schedules, schematics and diagrams for a variety of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, instrumentation related tasks as and when required.
• Perform various riggings / slinging tasks related to the installation / removal / replacement of equipment including but not limited to mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, instrumentation related equipment.

Breakdown Maintenance

• Perform root cause analysis to identify the root causes of breakdowns / failures and take corrective action to fix equipment / parts to ensure that equipment is up and running as quickly as possible and put preventative measures in place to eliminate / mitigate future breakdowns of the same nature.
• Develop, implement and maintain a breakdown maintenance tracking / recording system, analyse data and make recommendations with regards to preventing / eliminating breakdowns.
• Repair / replace mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, instrumentation, electrical equipment / equipment parts as per relevant standard operating procedures, safety rules and regulation and equipment / supplier requirements.
• Perform ore-start checks, start-up, set-up, shutdown, isolation, safeguarding, and other procedures relating to the maintenance of machines / equipment as per relevant standard procedures, practices, policies.
• Record breakdowns and problems with the equipment / machinery / parts and update relevant maintenance record systems.

Preventative Maintenance

• Plan and schedule daily assigned work orders / job cards and prepare relevant materials / equipment / tools / consumables to perform relevant jobs / tasks.
• Assist in the development / implementation of planned preventative maintenance schedules.
• Perform preventative maintenance tasks on equipment including but not limited to mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, instrumentation, electrical, etc. equipment.
• Take appropriate actions to prevent equipment breakdowns including but not limited to preventative maintenance on mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, instrumentation, etc. equipment to eliminate / mitigate / minimize equipment breakdowns / failures.
• Implement and maintain records relating to inspection and monitoring tasks on mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, instrumentation, etc. equipment to proactively identify potential faults / problems / issues, etc.
• Perform scheduled / frequent checks / inspections / tests on mechanical, electrical / pneumatic / hydraulic / instrumentation, electrical, etc. equipment to identify potentially / existing defects.
• Identify / implement equipment / process for improvement and cost reduction initiatives to ensure optimal production effectiveness / cost effectiveness / efficiencies / equipment availability and equipment utilisation.
• Perform any other tasks related to the furthering of business interests tasks / activities / duties delegated to you.
• Identify / maintain optimum availability of consumables / spares / equipment and communicate to the relevant store person and ensure critical spares and other consumable stock holding is sufficient.

Planned and Maintenance

• Develop, implement and execute planned maintenance activities / tasks with regards to routine maintenance, servicing and refurbishing of equipment mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, instrumentation, electrical, etc. equipment.
• Prioritise planned maintenance activities to ensure minimum disruption to production processes and optimal equipment utilisation and availability.
• Compile project plans / schedules with regards to the servicing / refurbishments / planned replacement of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, instrumentation, electrical, etc. equipment.
• Develop, implement and maintain a planned maintenance tracking / recording system, analyse data and make recommendations with regards to frequency of servicing / planned replacement / refurbishment of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, instrumentation, electrical, etc. equipment.
• Routine maintenance tasks related to cleaning, inspections, preventative maintenance, planned maintenance schedule and first line maintenance in equipment / buildings / facilities.
• Assign and ensure completion of planned general maintenance tasks such as painting, welding, soldering, repairing, lubricating, cleaning, etc., and monitor quality of completion of tasks.
• Ensure that planned maintenance activities are budgeted for and conducted within the budgetary constraints and in line with overall maintenance plan.

Servicing Equipment

• Develop and maintain machinery / equipment service tracking / recording systems, analyze data, and recommend scheduling for servicing, replacement, and refurbishment.
• Service mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, instrumentation, electrical, etc., equipment / machinery as per schedules and policies.

Occupational Health and Safety

• Inspect machinery / plant equipment / surrounding areas daily for hazards and take corrective actions.
• Comply with all health and safety regulations, procedures, policies, and standards.
• Ensure staff are trained in safe work procedures and that lockout / safeguarding protocols are followed.

Administration

• Develop and maintain preventative, first-line, planned, breakdown, and service maintenance administrative systems.
• Manage documentation related to equipment lifespan, critical spares, utilization, and job cards.

Key Requirements

• Minimum years of experience as a qualified artisan in manufacturing/production.
• Minimum trade test certificate as a millwright / electrical, preferably with a mechanical background.
• Grade 12 / NQF level 4 or equivalent.
• Excellent communication skills in English.
• Strong organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.

Key Responsibilities :

• Perform daily checks and regular inspections of critical equipment, including refrigeration units, electrical systems, mobile racking, other racking systems, and general facility infrastructure to identify potential issues and ensure systems are functioning at optimal levels.

Position Description

Supervision: Under the direct supervision of the Machinery Lead Technician

Position requires 2 to 4 years hands on experience in an industrial setting.

Performs preventative maintenance and repair of injection molding machinery & support equipment.

Rigs, installs and tests injection molding machinery and support equipment.

Works under general supervision with a certain degree of creativity and latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.

Work scheduled on the 1st shift – 40 hours per week. (May include overtime & weekend work)

SCOPE OF WORK PERFORMED

Troubleshoots, tests, repairs, and services electrical systems, hydraulic systems, electronic systems, material handling systems, chilled water systems, pneumatic systems, and other production support equipment.

Conducts preventative maintenance services per written PM instructions on all production equipment.

Installs machinery under the guidance of the Plant Engineer, Maintenance Supervisor, and Machinery Lead Technician.

Fabricates and installs safety devices, access platforms, water systems, and electrical services.

May train others on specific jobs.

Performs related work as assigned.

GENERAL QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES

Experience And Education

Experience and formal training in industrial mechanics required.

Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent is required.

Graduation from trade school or two year college with major in industrial mechanics is required.

Specialized training in specific maintenance crafts is highly desired.

May be required to complete formal training in areas of specialty.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

Job Description Continued – Maintenance Technician – Level II

Should have above average experience, knowledge, and understanding of industrial machinery mechanics, electricity, electronics, hydraulics, pneumatics, plumbing and pipefitting, solvent welding of PVC pipe and fittings, metal cutting , welding, & brazing, rigging, and safety procedures.

Must be ‘qualified’ to work on electrical systems up to 480 volts per NDS defined procedures.

Must be familiar with the safe operation of hand tools, power tools, and equipment common to the maintenance of industrial systems and machinery.

Certified forklift operator.

Maintains clean DMV report.

Physical Demands & Work Conditions

To perform essential functions of the job, the following applies: Requires standing, stretching, bending, walking, lifting and transporting a minimum of 50 lbs.

Must be able to climb stairs.

Must be able to climb silo ladders to an elevation of 40’.

Work involves working with and exposure to oils, gear lubricants, greases, lubrication equipment, water treatment chemicals, cleaning chemicals, cleaning & disposal equipment, paint & painting equipment, high levels of noise, and welding fumes.

Non-smoking environment.

Will be required to wear personal protective equipment as appropriate for the work required.

Requirements

Must furnish standard hand tools and tool box per attached Tool List.

Must wear protective footwear during all work hours. (steel toed boots)

Must wear provided eye protection and hearing protection.

Must follow all company safety rules and regulations. Must be proactive in protecting self, subordinates, other workers, and company assets from harm.

Purpose
Responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of electronic equipment and systems at the mine site, this role demands a strong technical background, exceptional problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently in a challenging environment. The Field Services Technician will deliver high-quality customer service by ensuring the proper installation and maintenance of systems, guaranteeing their optimal operation.

Education, Experience, And Competencies

• Grade 12 and Qualified Artisan (Red Seal) Electrician or Automotive Electrician
• 3-5 years of experience in electronic installations
• Strong knowledge of electronic systems, including installation, maintenance, and repair.
• Own Transport and valid driver's license (willing to travel and work overtime)
• Medically fit to work on a mine (Underground and surface)

Responsibilities

• Installation and Maintenance:
• Install systems accurately to meet standards and deadlines.
• Conduct site and system surveys before installation and quoting.
• Effectively repair and upgrade existing systems on-site.
• Ensure all wiring and installations comply with the mine’s electrical and mechanical requirements.
• Commission and test products, providing education to customers on proper use.
• Perform routine maintenance and inspections to ensure optimal equipment performance.
• Diagnose and repair faults in electronic systems and equipment.
• Technical Support:
• Provide on-site and remote technical support to clients and end-users.
• Promptly troubleshoot and resolve issues with electronic systems.
• Assist with field and lab testing for new and existing electronic systems.
• System Optimization:
• Monitor electronic system performance and suggest improvements for efficiency and reliability.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to identify and implement system upgrades and enhancements.
• Customer Service:
• Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction through excellent service delivery.
• Documentation and Reporting:
• Create and maintain detailed documentation of installations, maintenance, and repairs.
• Generate reports on system performance, issues, and resolutions.
• Compile reports for audits upon request by the mines.
• Maintain accurate records of service activities and client interactions.
• Compliance and Safety:
• Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations while working on-site.
• Ensure work areas are organized, clean, and compliant with Occupational Health and Safety standards.
• Report any safety incidents or hazards to the Manager immediately.
• Additional Duties:
• Ensure the customer is satisfied with the system’s functionality.
• Conduct site visits to assess and promptly address problems.
• Respond quickly to reported failures and ensure timely repairs.
• Thoroughly test equipment to analyse faults and ensure compliance with installation manual specifications.
• Order necessary repairs and parts promptly to fix faults.
• Complete required administration tasks, including service reports, timesheets, and Certificates of Compliance (COCs).
