Duties & Responsibilities

Your duties and responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:

  • Perform aircraft maintenance in accordance with the aircraft’s approved maintenance data.
  • Ensuring all parts and materials are airworthy and appropriate for their application.
  • Reporting all defects or faults identified during maintenance of aircraft or aeronautical products to the allocated Maintenance Co-ordinator.
  • Ensuring all certifications are made in accordance with the Aviair approved systems of certification.
Desired Experience & Qualification
  • Possess minimum 2 years work experience as an AME, preferably with a sound knowledge of the Civil Aviation Regulations.
  • Possess experience working on aircraft within our fleet or similar.
  • Be highly motivated with a strong work ethic.
  • Be able to work effectively as part of a tight knit team as well as independently in a fast-paced environment, able to problem-solve and provide concise recommendations.
  • Be capable of multi-tasking and achieving goals and objectives.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate across all levels.
  • Ability to successfully pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening (DAMP).
  • Ability to obtain an ASIC.

SUMMARY:

Our client in the water treatment industry is seeking a Reliability and Maintenance Engineer to join their team in Johannesburg, GT.

Reporting to the Group Operations Strategy Manager, this position is required to provide effective support to the Operations & Maintenance teams, providing the necessary technical expertise and implementing appropriate actions to ensure efficient maintenance activities and enhancing overall plant reliability.

**South African Citizens and those living in the area will be preferred**

POSITION INFO:

CRITICAL PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

  • Enhancing the overall reliability and availability of the Operation and Maintenance contracts
  • Providing Maintenance and equipment expertise
  • Analysing equipment failure data and conducting Root Cause Analyses with the assistance of the Maintenance Teams
  • Developing and Implementing procedures and processes to increase reliability
  • Understanding the cost of equipment maintenance and developing reliable budget and forecasting
  • Taking part design reviews to increase reliability of new plant/equipment
  • Taking part in HAZOP studies to improve on maintainability of plants/equipment
  • Tracking plant maintenance KPI’s and utilising Maintenance Data from the CMMS to inform strategies and tactics
  • Provide leadership to enhance Maintenance Activities, Strategies and Tactics
  • Analyse data to increase efficiency and effectiveness of the Maintenance Departments

QUALFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE

  • Engineering degree (B.Eng Industrial/Mechanical)
  • >3 years’ experience as a reliability engineer in an industrial/mining environment
  • Experience in water treatment equipment will be an advantage
  • Experience with Root Cause Analysis, RCM principles,
  • Experience with CMMS systems, Maintenance Planning and data analysis
  • Computer literacy
  • The successful candidate must be a fast learner and able to work with little supervision
  • Own transport

In addition, the successful candidate should be/able to:

  • Solution and improvement focused (initiative and motivation).
  • Effective time management skills with a sense of urgency.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Ability to multi- task. Working under pressure.
  • Proactively work within a team with the ability to work unsupervised

Job Title : Maintenance Engineer

Department : Maintenance

Location : Germiston

Type : Permanent

Salary : R50 000 - R60 000CTC

About the Role

We are looking for a hands-on, solutions-driven Maintenance Engineer to oversee the effective functioning of all production equipment, utilities, and infrastructure at our Germiston facility. This role requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and a proactive approach to equipment reliability, compliance, and performance optimization.

Key Responsibilities

Operational & Technical Oversight

  • Supervise and coordinate all preventive, corrective, and breakdown maintenance activities.
  • Ensure continuous operation of production systems , utilities, and infrastructure.
  • Monitor equipment and plant performance , implement improvements, and reduce downtime.
  • Supervise internal maintenance teams and manage third-party contractors as needed.
  • Coordinate system shutdowns with production for scheduled maintenance or repairs.

Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure full compliance with HSE regulations and internal Safety, Environment, and Quality Management Systems .
  • Promote and enforce the use of PPE and injury-prevention practices on site.
  • Implement and ensure compliance with all corporate and local safety rules and procedures .
  • Budgeting & Resource Planning

  • Assist in the development of the annual maintenance budget and track spending.
  • Oversee the procurement and stock control of maintenance tools, parts, and consumables.
  • Propose and evaluate supplier quotations for maintenance projects or equipment.
  • People Management

  • Lead and develop a team of Millwrights, Artisans, and Technicians .
  • Set clear objectives, track performance, and mentor staff for continuous improvement .
  • Conduct team briefings, toolbox talks, and safety meetings.
  • Reporting & Documentation

  • Monitor and report on key maintenance KPIs and operational metrics.
  • Maintain up-to-date maintenance logs, technical documentation, and SOPs .
  • Collaborate with central functions for updates on engineering standards and improvements.
  • System & Technical Improvements

  • Support in the design and implementation of technological upgrades and retrofits.
  • Ensure maintenance equipment is fully operational , safe, and used correctly.
  • Contribute to the company’s technical knowledge by maintaining accurate records of procedures and repairs.
  • Non-negotiable Requirements

  • Degree in Electrical
  • 5+ years’ experience in industrial maintenance, with 3+ years at a supervisory or management level .
  • Strong technical knowledge in mechanical and electrical systems in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Bonus

  • Experience in working within a high-volume production environment will be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) is preferred.
