Job Summary

As a Lead Technician, your main responsibility is to inspect, service, repair, test and report on Company products in the field and that have been returned by the customer and provide technical service via phone & electronically to the customer and Account Managers. You will be responsible for leading a team of your fellow Service Technicians, and will report to the Service Manager

Responsibilities

  • Product :

To provide diagnostic analysis, repair and / or preventative maintenance of customer products in service workshops or installations at customer locations.

To attend to breakdowns & callouts including standby duties.

To assist service administrators with technician job planning & scheduling.

To compose & scope all major overhaul / repair jobs as well as specialized request for quotes.

  • Reports :

Prepare and submit written reports of in-house or site visit inspections with recommendations.

Review and edit reports before they are sent to the customer.

Provide reports regarding repairs of equipment in the workshop.

Attend all Managers’ meetings’ and forecast of the month’s budget.

Produce technical failure reports on equipment.

  • Training :

To train service technicians, employees, customers and vendors in correct operation and maintenance of product.

  • Service Bulletins :

Assist in the development of service bulletins, procedures, etc. for both warranty products and out-of-warranty service.

To control accurate stores inventory in conjunction with service administrators and warehouse personnel.

  • Health & Safety :

To ensure all check list and toolbox talks are documented and conducted,

All health & safety specifications are adhered to at all times.

  • Team Management :

Plan the work schedule of your team of technicians to maximize efficiency.

Verify & validate overtime & standby for the team, co-ordinate annual leave schedules, assist the Service Manager by planning & performing daily service work at customer site(s).

Basic Qualifications

  • 5 years’ field service experience with Rotary & Centrifugal air compressors and Air Dryers (Essential)
  • Knowledge and experience in Health & Safety requirements (Essential)
  • Grade 12 or equivalent (Essential)
  • Trade Test technical certification Millwright / Fitter / Electrical (Essential)

  • Capacidad para trabajar en altura y en condiciones meteorológicas adversas.
  • Capacidad para leer manuales técnicos en inglés (es esencial); la fluidez verbal o escrita se valorará positivamente.
  • Residencia dentro de un radio de 25–30 km de Pujalt (Barcelona).

POSITION INFO:

Minimum requirements for the role:

  • Must have a Degree or Diploma in Agronomy, Agri-Tech, Plant Sciences, or related field
  • Proficiency in digital tools, mobile apps, and software platforms will be an advantage
  • Ability to perform physical farm work and digital data entry/analysis with high attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for client and team interactions
  • Must have a valid driver's license and be willing to travel when required

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Creating and verifying client accounts, managing user roles, monitoring payment statuses, and assisting with invoice generation and follow-ups in the software platform.
  • Assigning standardized farm names, validating geographic data, positioning climate stations, and supporting pricing tier allocation in the software platform.
  • Configuring and maintaining controllers, monitoring data flow, troubleshooting issues, and interpreting logs for irrigation schedules.
  • Setting up fertilizer mixes, monitoring tank status, creating irrigation schedules, tracking EC/moisture data, and linking or unlinking programs to controllers.

  • Recording canopy growth, fruit development, phenology, and soil moisture; editing inaccurate data and providing timely field reports.
  • Supporting season setup (crop selection, canopy/root calibration, irrigation specs), entering and validating analysis data, and cross-checking setups against benchmarks.
  • Inputting data, generating reports, flagging anomalies, comparing seasonal trends, and maintaining accurate fertilizer and crop performance records.
  • Conducting regular client visits, providing clear field reports, and maintaining strong communication to build relationships.

Applications are invited for the Field Technician - Junior position to be based in Ellisras .

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:

The Field Technician Junior’s main duty will be to oversee and lead installations/repairs on Wireless or Fibre networks, focusing on standard home or small basic business installations/repairs/surveys.

Key Performance Areas would include, but are not limited to:

General:

  • Follow set SOP’s and procedures.
  • Work closely with a Team Leader and Scheduler.
  • Maintain project and safety documentation.
  • Accurate reporting and updates on work done.
  • Ensure all relevant stock is available for scheduled work.
  • Keep equipment well maintained.
  • Adhere to all Health and Safety procedures.
  • Complete all SHER and OHS required documentation.
  • Fibre Troubleshooting: Splicing, testing, dome management.
  • Wireless Troubleshooting: Signal testing on CPE’s, access points and bandwidth capacity.
  • Basic Network Troubleshooting: IP conflicts, firewall issues and routing issues.
  • Installation of VoIP systems.
  • Provide excellent customer service.
  • Work overtime, weekends, or on emergency call outs as required.
  • Work at heights: House roofs, telephone/gum poles or large buildings.
  • Work in crawl and small spaces for installation purposes.

Installation:

  • Receive daily job cards for new installations.
  • Reference job cards for correct stock needed for the installation.
  • Confirm clients’ needs are met as indicated on job cards and update Sales or Technical Department to adjust quote.
  • Install Fibre and Wireless CPE’s.
  • Perform cable runs internal and external, both Network and Fibre cable runs.
  • Communicate with Installation Team Leader to confirm RF signal is as required on LOS.
  • Communicate with Installation Team Leader to confirm Fibre signal is as required and color allocations are correct.
  • Basic access point and network setups.
  • Setup and confirm the client’s existing equipment is still working and that client verifies that everything works as it should.
  • Upgrade all equipment's firmware, clean up and take photos for quality control.
  • Follow quality control with your team leader for confirmation when the installation has been completed.
  • Complete installation job card with equipment used, related technical information and photos.
  • Inspect site for possible future problems, take photos and update accordingly.
  • Update ticket with all relevant work done for job card completion and invoicing.

Callout Repairs:

  • Confirm issues with client as described on ticket.
  • Troubleshoot fast and sufficiently.
  • Identify problems leading to Fibre or Wireless not performing optimally and determine solutions.
  • Communicate cost implications involved with the repair if any.
  • Have knowledge of products and pricing.
  • Resolve the issue on site or replace the necessary equipment.
  • Confirm with client that repair has been completed and that the client tested.
  • Ensure that the client is satisfied with the work that has been done.
  • Follow quality control with your team leader for confirmation when the repair has been completed.
  • Inspect site for possible future problems, take photos and update accordingly.
  • Update ticket with all relevant work done for job card completion and invoicing.

CPE Recovery: Wireless & Fibre:

  • Remove relevant equipment and clean up.
  • Complete recovery job card with equipment removed.

The successful candidate must have the following experience/skills:

  • 1 year’s Fibre Optic splicing experience.
  • 1 year’s RF/Wireless experience.
  • Knowledge around network structures, crimping.
  • Previous experience in the IT Industry advantageous.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Customer service experience.
  • Basic Networking considered an asset.
  • Technical training considered an asset: Electronics, IT, Networking, VoIP, IP cameras etc.
  • Experience using FO troubleshooting tools (i.e. OTDR, Mass Fusion Splicing, etc.).
  • Driver’s license.
  • Clean driving record.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective planning skills.
  • Leadership skills.
  • Good working knowledge of hand and power tools used in this position.
  • Proficient in fibre cable termination with connectors.
  • Well versed in fusion splicing machine technique.
  • Strong manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
  • Ability to work neatly and accurately.
  • Technically minded.
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding environment including, but not limited to: carry, raise and climb a ladder, carry, lift and handle heavy equipment (manhole covers, cable reels).
  • Self-disciplined, motivated and organised.
  • Medically fit & able to work at height.

Education Requirements:

  • Grade 12.
  • Specialized certifications would be an advantage.
