Our Client based in Sandton, an Accounting, Auditing & Tax Consulting firm, is currently looking for a Tax Specialist. This is a hybrid position.

Key duties would include but are not limited to:

  • Registering all tax types
  • SARS payment arrangements
  • Submission of objections and appeals with SARS
  • Manage and submit SARS audits and reviews
  • Prepare tax payments
  • Submit and track tax returns (Companies, Trusts, and Individuals)
  • Provisional tax management and submission
  • Organize and update companies tax database
  • Recommend tax strategies that align with business goals
  • SARS e-filing equipped
  • Review and Compilation engagements

Experience/Education:

  • Qualifications: B.Com Accounting
  • Accountant office background and environment would be preferred.
  • Articles: SAIPA/SAICA articles completed or a Tax qualification such as SAIT
  • Experience: 5+ years in an auditors/accounting firm
  • Programs: Xero, Sage, and Caseware. Additional programs will be of advantage.

Successful candidate must be:

  • Equipped and have strong working knowledge of tax compliance matters
  • Well equipped in tax admin matters on e-filing
  • A good communicator (written and verbal skills)

  • Manage service providers appointed for specific projects, such as videographers and podcasters, to ensure products are of the highest quality and consistent with SAIIA’s brand.

REQUIREMENTS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS :

  • Degree in journalism, communications, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum five to seven years in a communications role; at least two to three years’ experience in a management role.
  • Experience working in the non-profit sector and in research communications.
  • Proven success with developing and implementing effective communication strategies that meet programme objectives and support the uptake of evidence-based research in policymaking.
  • A skilled communicator with excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills who can tailor messages for specific audiences.
  • Strong technical skillset: website management through WordPress or other content management systems, Mailchimp newsletter distribution and management, and Google Analytics for performance evaluation.

Purpose of Position

The Tax Rebate Specialist is responsible for overseeing Mining diesel Rebate activities within the mining environment in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) region and supporting the Data and Decision Science function in the accurate and timely production of mining diesel Rebate reporting.

Key Responsibilities

Mining diesel Rebates

  • VAT diesel refund
  • Tax VAT rebates
  • Overseeing the preparation, submission, and tracking of MINING DIESEL rebate applications.
  • Ensuring compliance with MINING DIESEL rebate regulations and requirements.
  • Analyzing and interpreting relevant legislation and updates related to MINING DIESEL rebates.
  • Gathering and organizing data necessary for MINING DIESEL rebate applications.
  • Analyzing financial and operational data to support rebate claims.
  • Verifying data accuracy and completeness.
  • Liaising with internal and client stakeholders (e.g., finance, tax, operations) to gather required information and support rebate claims.
  • Communicating with external parties such as tax advisors, auditors, and SARS officials regarding rebate matters.
  • Providing guidance and support to colleagues on MINING DIESEL rebate procedures and requirements.

Taxation

  • Managing and overseeing tax compliance activities related to MINING DIESEL rebates
  • Ensuring timely and accurate preparation, filing, and submission of mining diesel rebates for various entities within the region
  • Identifying and evaluating tax rebate and incentive programs offered by SARS for eligible activities
  • Advising on strategies to maximize tax rebates and incentives available under applicable tax laws.
  • Maintaining accurate and organized records of tax-related transactions, filings, and correspondence with tax authorities.
  • Ensuring compliance with document retention policies and procedures.
  • Continuously improving mining diesel rebates processes and controls to enhance efficiency and compliance.
  • Implementing best practices and adopting new technologies to streamline tax-related activities.

  • As per Board-approved DOA and as necessary for functions outside the DOA. As delegated by the Managing Director, when necessary.
