Carrying out the normal duties and functions which occur within a professional laboratory service.
These duties and functions include, interalia: -
- Responsible for the daily routine work in the Molecular, Microbiology ,Chemistry, General Serology & Haematology Laboratory in order to achieve an efficient and cost effective service.
- Record temperature of the room and fridges, with corrective actions when required.
- Maintenance on all equipment used for analysis – ensuring all controls and calibrations are done on all relevant equipment.
- Decontamination of all equipment and bench tops.
Ensure processing of samples received from various sites:
- Reagent preparation when necessary.
- Troubleshooting in order to prevent serious or unacceptable incidents involving specimen samples.
- Report all malfunctions to the laboratory manager.
- Ensure that relevant protocols are followed.
- To participate and assist in laboratory projects.
- Assist in performing tasks in all the laboratory sections.

West Midlands Ambulance Service University NHS Foundation Trust is looking to build a reserve pool of caring and committed individuals for our Non-Emergency Patient Transport Services contracts across the West Midlands area for any vacancies that may arise over the next 12 months.
The main purpose of this role is to safely transport patients with varying mobilities to and from treatment centres or other venues as directed. This could include manual handling of patients, the care of patients and assisting patients, as well as driving.
Some patients may need to be carried (including stairs), wheeled in a chair or a stretcher and escorted to and from the vehicle.
The safe transportation of these patients is paramount to the role. This includes securing patients, wheelchairs, stretchers etc in the vehicles.
You will be required to drive a variety of vehicles, including cars, ambulances and other vehicles.
Main duties of the jobThe main duties of the job include:
- Carry out required vehicle and equipment checks.
- Be prepared to work flexibly to ensure patients are moved in a timely, safe and dignified manner.
- Work within Contract Specific Quality Standards and ensure a high level of customer care.
- Ensure effective communication with the Control Centre, by telephone or electronic means.
- Transfer patients using equipment and skills specific to individual needs.
- Provide effective care to patients, appropriate to their requirements using available equipment.
- Transport patients safely and considerately, including pre-planned and ad-hoc journeys.
- Ensure patients have a safe, smooth journey, complying with all relevant traffic legislation and driving with consideration for other road users.
- Maintain full and accurate records and reports, including Patient Transport Records, Accident Reports, and Incident Reports etc.
- Ensure vehicles and equipment are kept in states of cleanliness and readiness.
- Undertake required training to maintain acceptable standards and quality of care.
- Maintain a current valid driving licence.
- Adhere to corporate Instructions and Policies, Operational Instructions, Clinical Protocols, Quality Procedures and other verbal or written instructions.
- Perform other tasks in keeping with the post as required by supervisory staff and managers.
- Good standard of general education with a minimum of 3 GCSEs at Grade C or above (or equivalent) including English or be willing to undertake a level 2 qualification within the first 12 months in post.
- Experience of working within a public service or customer care environment.
