Overview

Role Description

This role is technical in nature and is responsible for providing high quality and timely IT infrastructure support to ensure the availability, stability and performance of the FNZ datacentres, platforms and corporate systems.

Organisational Design

This position is part of the Infrastructure department and reports to the Infrastructure Head.

Team Responsibilities

The team are responsible for the administration and management of all development, UAT, pre-production, production and DR environments as well as internal corporate IT systems.

Specific Role Responsibilities

Availability : Ensure that uptime SLAs are met every month for systems that you are responsible for by managing and resolving issue logs; performing scheduled maintenance to minimise disruption; managing third party support contracts where required to provide support levels.

Performance : Ensure that performance SLAs are met every month for systems that you are responsible for by monitoring system performance, capacity and growth; suggesting and implementing performance improvements and hardware/software refreshes.

Information Security : Ensure that the FNZ network and systems are internally and externally secure by following existing policies and procedures and documenting for audit purposes as required by ISO27001; implementing security projects; completing risk assessments and build guides for new and existing systems.

Business Continuity : Ensure that FNZ-held data is secure and backed up by: ensuring that regular backups are made and tested; participating in yearly BCP & DR tests; ensuring that any new build is in line with company requirements and departmental policy for resilience and availability; documenting resilience and backup plans for all new builds.

Training : Develop professional and technical knowledge and skills. Provide technical advice and mentoring within the team.

Project Work : Implement new projects to meet project timelines and deadlines.

Budget : Recommend changes to the IT manager that could reduce costs in your areas of responsibility.

Experience required
  • Degree qualified or equivalent industry certifications and experience.
  • AIX operating system administration skills.
  • Knowledge of automation scripting.
  • Keen interest in and knowledge of latest server and storage technologies
  • Successfully implemented Infrastructure projects.
  • Good team player with the ability to work independently and able to take initiative, drive change and new technologies and methodologies.

  • Deep expertise in Azure services such as Virtual Machines, Virtual Networks, Azure Storage, Azure Active Directory, and Azure Backup.
  • Experience in designing and implementing secure and scalable cloud solutions.
  • Strong knowledge of cloud networking (VNETs, Subnets, NSGs, VPNs) and hybrid cloud configurations.
  • Proficiency in automating infrastructure deployment using Azure DevOps, ARM templates, Terraform, or similar tools.
  • Hands-on experience with monitoring and managing cloud resources, using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and other tools.

The candidate must have experience in people management, a strong technical understanding, and the drive and vision to take Tracker Data Center Operations to the next level.The successful candidate will have experience creating/devising strategies, mentoring people at all levels, sponsoring projects, and proposing technical solutions. This position involves leading teams in Server Support, VMware support, SAN/Array Support, Backup support, and Linux, support. This position requires hardware diagnostics followed by physical repair and includes participation in an on-call rotation. All candidates should be willing to work both independently. Work prioritization, organizational skills, effective communication, and the ability to react quickly are critical to being successful. In addition to a strong knowledge of Data Centres and hardware repair, candidates will create documentation, innovate solutions, participate in site-level project work, and fix complex problems within the Data Center Space. This team works in an environment that operates 24/7.


Servers
Management of the servers
Ensure that servers have the appropriate Firmware and Drivers installed and up-to-date
Ensure that user access to the servers is managed and limited
Ensure that server data is backed up as agreed with the appropriate business owner
Ensure that servers are monitored for performance and uptime

SAN and array (Storage)
Set up and configure storage devices
Do routine maintenance on storage devices
Liaise with 3rd party vendors regarding storage device support
Upgrade Storage device firmware
Management of all disks
Ensure that a capacity planning procedure is created and implemented

    Senior Infrastructure Engineer page is loaded# Senior Infrastructure Engineerlocations: Johannesburg - South Africatime type: Full timeposted on: Posted Todayjob requisition id: REQ-13499**Role Description**This role is technical in nature and is responsible for providing high quality and timely IT infrastructure support to ensure the availability, stability and performance the FNZ datacentres, platforms and corporate systems.* AIX Server management* SAN and storage array management would be advantageous* Backup, Replication, HA and Recovery technologies* AIX Server Security Management* AIX Server hardware**Organisational Design**This position is part of the Infrastructure department and reports to the Infrastructure Head.**Team Responsibilities**The team are responsible for the administration and management of all development, UAT, pre-production, production and DR environments as well as internal corporate IT systems.**Availability** – applications that are available when the users need them.**Performance** – applications that scale with user demand.**Security** – applications that are protected from unauthorised access and data loss.**Reliability** – applications that are fault tolerant with no single points of failure.**Value for money** – shared core infrastructure improves application delivery and reduces costs per application.**Projects** – new system delivery is high quality, on time and within budget**Specific Role Responsibilities***Availability**: Ensure that uptime SLA's are met every month for systems that you are responsible for by managing and resolving issues logs; performing scheduled maintenance to minimise disruption; managing third party support contracts where required to provide support levels.**Performance**: Ensure that performance SLA's are met every month for systems that you are responsible for by monitoring system performance, capacity and growth; suggesting and implementing performance improvements and hardware/software refreshes.**Information Security**: Ensure that the FNZ network and systems are internally and externally secure by following existing policies and procedures and documenting for audit purposes as required by ISO27001; implementing security projects; completing risk assessments and build guides for new and existing systems.**Business Continuity**: Ensure that FNZ-held data is secure and backed up by: ensuring that regular backups and made and are tested; participating in yearly BCP & DR tests; ensuring that any new build is in line with company requirements and departmental policy for resilience and availability; documenting resilience and backup plans for all new builds.**Training**: Develop professional and technical knowledge and skills.     Our client, is seeking a Senior Infrastructure Engineer to join their team.

    The purpose of this position is to help ensure overall availability and reliability to meet or exceed defined service levels of data centre operations.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Management of the servers ensuring the appropriate Firmware and Drivers are installed
    • Ensure that user access is managed and that server data is backed up and monitored for performance and uptime
    • Set up and configure storage devices and do routine maintenance
    • Liaise with 3rd party vendors regarding storage device support
    • Upgrade Storage device firmware
    • Management of all disks ensuring that disks are monitored for performance and integrity
    • Ensure that a process for obtaining and installing replacement parts is created and implemented and standby staff are trained to procure and install replacement parts
    • Ensure SAN replication takes place
    • Create and/or regularly update a backup and restore procedure and policy
    • Maintain a record of system backup frequencies and backup times
    • Perform regular tests of the ability to restore backed-up data
    • Monitor the backup hardware and software for correct operation
    • Manage the procurement of media and ensure backups conform to best practice retention cycles
    • Ensure All critical Business systems and recovery systems are replicated at DR
    • Manage Infrastructure DR Plan & DR Datacentre availability and stability
    • Manage DR connectivity and DR capacity
    • Management of all application servers and ensure servers are available
    • Define and regularly review a SLA with affected business users
    • All aspects within VMware
    • Ensure all infrastructure facilities are secure
    • Manage environmental monitoring
    • Create and / or regularly update a capacity management process and procedure
    • Regular review of capacity management monitoring results
    • Implementation of appropriate actions to address findings of capacity management monitoring
    • Lead teams in Server Support, VMware support, SAN/Array Support, Backup support, and Linux, support.

    Minimum Requirements
