We are seeking a dedicated Assistant Mechanic to join our team.

• Help mechanics and technicians with vehicle repairs and maintenance tasks, including gathering tools, holding parts, and assisting with disassembly and reassembly.
• Maintain and organize tools, equipment, and spare parts. Ensure all tools and equipment are in good working condition and report any malfunctions.
• Keep the workshop clean and organized. Perform routine cleaning of work areas, tools, and equipment. Dispose of waste and used parts in accordance with safety and environmental regulations.
• Assist in the ordering, receiving, and inventory management of parts and materials. Ensure parts are correctly stored and easily accessible.
• Help with the preparation and maintenance of records related to work performed, parts used, and other workshop activities.
• Follow all health and safety guidelines to ensure a safe working environment. Report any hazards or safety concerns to the supervisor.
• Provide general support to workshop staff as needed, including running errands, assisting with administrative tasks, and other duties as assigned.

• Must have Grade 12 or equivalent.
• Technical or vocational training in automotive or mechanical work (advantageous).
• Previous experience in a workshop or similar environment (preferred).
• Valid C1 driver's license with PDP.
• Basic mechanical knowledge, familiarity with workshop tools and equipment, and strong organizational skills.
• Good verbal communication skills and ability to follow instructions accurately.
• Physically fit to work in various weather conditions and loud machinery environments.
• Ability to stand, kneel, and bend for long periods, using personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
• Willingness to work flexible hours or assist with emergency repairs as needed.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Fleet Maintenance:

• Ensure the workshop is clean and maintain housekeeping as per HSEMS requirements
• Dispose of waste in designated areas following HSEMS standards
• Follow lead mechanic's instructions
• Assist the lead mechanic when required
• Perform duties assigned by the mechanic efficiently and safely
• Properly handle all equipment, especially mechanical and electronic gauges, to prevent failures
• Gain knowledge of mechanic assistant responsibilities (technical and safety)
• Carry out all work activities safely
• Follow all company procedures and controls
• Maintain good housekeeping at the work site and accommodation daily

We are looking for a semi-skilled and reliable Mechanical Maintenance Technician to join an established manufacturer in Durban. The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical background, with added electrical fault-finding capabilities, and experience in a manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in the maintenance, repair, and preparation of production equipment
• Attend to mechanical and hydraulic breakdowns on production lines
• Support scheduled and unscheduled servicing of machines, including CNC and spring coiling equipment
• Perform routine maintenance tasks such as lubrication and inspections
• Replace worn or damaged mechanical parts as needed
• Assemble, fit, and install mechanical components and equipment
• Maintain clean and safe work areas in line with housekeeping and safety standards

Qualifications & Experience:

• Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent.
• N2/N3 in Mechanical Engineering or related practical training (advantageous)
• 3–5 years’ experience in a mechanical maintenance or production environment
• Previous experience in a manufacturing environment is essential
• Trade Tested is advantageous
• Ability to diagnose and repair basic mechanical faults
• Skilled in the use of hand tools and mechanical measuring instruments
• Able to read and interpret technical and mechanical drawings
• Basic welding skills (arc or MIG)
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities
• Electrical experience, including the ability to fault-find motors, contactors, and overloads using a multimeter (both single-phase and three-phase).
• Experience maintaining CNC machines is advantageous
• Spring coiling machine experience is preferred
