Responsibilities

The purpose of this role is to lead the brand and consumer agenda across the Convenience Foods and Beverages categories in South Africa, driving growth through strategic mix deployment and portfolio leadership. This includes full accountability for brand equity, top-line growth, market share, and communication mix development across a diverse portfolio that includes Ceres, Liqui Fruit, Lipton, and key food brands including Bokomo, FutureLife, Weet-Bix, White Star Instant Maize porridge amongst others.

The incumbent will serve as the marketing lead for this extensive portfolio, ensuring alignment with the Companies long-term Mission and Vision. A high degree of cross-functional coordination is required to develop and execute plans that support growth priorities. The role also encompasses media strategy, budget management, and team development, ensuring delivery of both short-term brand strategies and long-term business objectives.

Practical Tips :

  • Responsible for brand building, category growth strategy for full suite of Foods & Beverages categories and brands.
  • Own and drive brand equity, SOM and appropriately launch new brands or brand extensions, in conjunction with Commercialisation and R&D.
  • Liaise with SA CMO in developing and utilizing the support marketing ecosystem, developing and deepening consumer intimacy programmes, and building out consumer engagement platforms.
  • Lead innovation agenda for growth and market relevance.
  • Leadership of external stakeholders (agencies) and internal leadership of cross functional teams.
  • Works within the SA CMO matrix marketing organisation, and aligned to AMESA marketing as required. PepsiCo marketing principles are followed in utilizing the marketing ecosystem, developing and deepening consumer intimacy programmes, driving the innovation agenda with Commercialisation, and building out consumer engagement platforms utilizing TCP and other PepsiCo templates.
  • Strong track record of leading a large team across multiple categories is a must for this role.

Accountabilities :

  • Set strategic agenda and commercials plans to accelerate growth, in alignment with the Category GM and the SSA CMO
  • Business Performance - Decision (D) Leads, directs, and controls marketing policies, programs, and activities to meet business objectives for local brand portfolio. Creates effective and efficient brand support and prioritizes brand investments in line with long term strategies and growth objectives. Decision rights are per SA Marketing agreed DICE.
  • Align Brand calendars with GTM and DX teams
  • Strategic Business Planning - Decision (D), Execute (E)Leads development of the long term strategic frame work for SA, including portfolio strategy and pricing strategy. Partners with key functions to build and share the best internal and external thinking. Supports delivery of Annual Operating Plan (AOP) - Decision (D)Leads category strategy translation to the effective Annual Operating Plans in category local brands. Develops communication strategy for pportfolio brands - Decision (D), Execute (E)Drives investments efficiency across SA via strategic partnerships, relevant activations and by lifting and adapting proven models.People Management - Decision (D), Execute (E)Leads, coaches and develops team members to sustainably deliver against long term strategic goals.Drive SOM gains in priority categories
  • Deliver NR & NOPBT growth targets with Category GM

  • Qualifications

  • 15+ years experience in brand marketing, preferably within FMCG
  • Proven track record at Marketing Director level for 5+ years, preferably in multi-category roles.
  • Honours (4 year) Degree in Marketing or Business Management / Economics with a focus on Marketing, Masters a plus
  • Track record of developing and deploying effective communication assets across all media channels.
  • Relevant experience in managing agency relationships (creative, digital, media buying)
  • Provide assumptions for long term brand growth, planned innovation, promotional guideline

This involves leveraging consumer and shopper insights to craft brands that consumers love, and executing compelling brand plans delivered through exceptional brand experiences in terms of innovation, communication, and activation. On a daily basis, this includes articulating and delivering the full marketing mix for your brand, working with the Marketing centres of excellence to optimise pricing, promotions, product innovation, packaging, and marketing mix.

    Duties & Responsibilities
    • Translate marketing insights and analysis of key issues and opportunities into clear & compelling Brand Plans, detailing execution of Category Strategy, Pricing & Channel Strategy, Promotions Plan, and Innovation Plan to deliver agreed growth agenda (volume, value, profit).
    • Track and monitor performance of your brands against financial targets and plans.
    • Identify, define, develop, deliver & track insight-driven innovation and renovation that is accretive to the brand and category (volume, value, profit), including defining product & packaging solutions, trade solutions, and compelling communication for consumers.
    • Partner with the Consumer Insights team to generate brand-relevant insights from all touchpoints, including market & internal analytics, competitive intelligence, consumer behaviour, trend data, and other appropriate sources.
    • Lead creative agency through the Communication Strategy process for your brand(s), culminating in the delivery of a Communication Strategy sign-off and campaign judging and sign-off of above-the-line and below-the-line campaigns vs the agreed brand blueprint.
    • Set pricing targets informed by your in-depth understanding of brand positioning and by leveraging pricing insights and guidelines provided by Revenue Management.
    • Ensure key day-to-day Brand Management tasks are executed fully and to a high level of quality, including S&OP forecasting, media planning, customer promotion tracking, Marketing Investment spend and management, quality tracking, brand health and share tracking, and range management.
    Experience & Qualifications
    • 4+ years brand and marketing experience with a proven track record of working across functions to deliver marketing excellence and brand growth.
    • BBusSc/BCom preferable.
    • Proven record of successful brand development and Idea to Market strategies.
    • Demonstrated ability to develop innovative consumer goods propositions based on rich consumer insights.

    • Interacts with aligned media, advertising and promotional agencies as well as Area teams, and other Haleon business units.
    • Manages cross-functional project activities required to achieve specific marketing objectives. This includes interaction with Sales, Supply Chain, Regulatory and other departments.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Monitor market, brand performance, competitors, trends, and consumer insights. Ensure a deep understanding of the key drivers behind share and sales performance to inform marketing strategies and tactics.
    • Review brand strategies and provide input into formulating new and innovative strategies to the competitive environment relevant to consumer profiles and their needs.
    • Build brand equity for the category in synergy with the rest of the organisation by taking ownership of the category as a brand custodian.
    • Report on deviations to Marketing Director and propose/implement action plans where necessary.
    • Monitor the performance of brands in terms of units and rand sales with meaningful comparison and market related interpretations monthly.
    • Review of actual costs versus budget throughout NPD development to meet GP objectives, brand campaign.
    • Collaborate in forecasting and pipeline input planning.
    • Drive campaign process to support sales strategy for overall company objective attainment
    • Manage agency stakeholders to impactful brand health.
    • Manage annual budget and reconciliation.
    • Integrate with sales, promotions to identify incentive requirements.

    Strategic Planning

    • In order that the overall company and strategic brand objectives are achieved, delivers and executes strategic long, medium- and short-term plans for brands by:
    • Developing strategies that will deliver the 3-year consumption, sales, profit and marketing objectives for the categories.
    • Analysing past performance, economic variables etc, against the backdrop of world-wide portfolio, growth, and profit objectives, in collaboration with Area/Category Teams.
    • Ensures development and execution of detailed 1-year plans for all the brands in the category they are responsible in which will ensure the achievement of strategic objectives, in partnership with Area/Category Teams and aligned agencies.

    • In order that plans are successfully implemented, and commercial and business objectives are met, directs and co-ordinates the implementation and achievement of agreed plans by:
    • Embedding continuous learning from successes and failures
    • Initiating and co-ordinating progress on all projects.

    • aligned agencies.

    Data & Analytics:

    • To determine potential impact on plans as well as identify future opportunities, monitors, analyses and evaluates marketplace developments relating to:

    • Tsechnical knowledge with regard to medicines, diseases and available treatments within each of the relevant product categories.
