JOB PURPOSE

WHAT WILL YOUR MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES BE

Inventory Control & Cycle Counting

  • Prepare and execute daily cycle counts and monthly stock counts across raw, pack, and material components.
  • Forecast inventory needs using historical usage trends and production plans.
  • Investigate and resolve material variances in coordination with Sloc Owners.
  • Set up and manage inventory control systems to prevent overstocking, stockouts, and obsolescence (e.g., slow-moving stock and expiry risks).

Damage & Quality Reporting

  • Report and analyze damages promptly.
  • Support the Quality team with reject processes and material upliftment workflows.
  • Maintain documentation and audit trails for quality-related returns and rejects.

Operational Support & Auditing

  • Manage and audit the picking and return process to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Fully support the team with materials handling, ensuring timely system transactions (e.g., GRN, 101, 933, 934, etc.).
  • Monitor the decanting and rework output daily.

System & Process Improvement

  • Drive continuous improvement projects using Lean, TOC, and 5S methodologies.
  • Analyze data, evaluate processes, and implement CIP projects focused on flow, waste reduction, and layout optimization.
  • Document and report performance metrics (KPIs) and contribute to savings and waste reduction initiatives.

Administrative & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Assist with queries and follow-ups on Proof of Delivery (POD) and invoice reconciliations.
  • Raise service requests for suppliers and resolve DCIW/payment issues.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records and provide regular reports to stakeholders (e.g., MUV/MUC, damage reports).

People & Performance

  • Liaise with internal teams (e.g., production, quality, procurement) and external partners (e.g., DHL, suppliers).
  • Supervise material pullers and ensure alignment with production requirements.
  • Train and coach staff on inventory systems and problem-solving principles.

The Logistics Coordinator supports the Cold Store Manager by executing day-to-day tasks

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES :

Client Instruction Management :

Operational Coordination :

Documentation and Reporting :

  • Maintain accurate records of product movement, including receipts, dispatches, and inventory updates.

  • Generate reports on daily throughput, inventory levels, and order status for the Cold Store Manager.

Communication :

  • Act as a point of contact for clients regarding order status and updates.
  • Provide clear and timely communication between clients, the Cold Store Manager, and internal teams.
  • Address client inquiries and escalate unresolved issues to the Cold Store Manager.

Compliance Support :

  • Ensure that all processes align with regulatory and client-specific requirements (e.g. Special Markets, SAGAP, SOLAS, PPECB) as well as internal Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Assist in maintaining documentation for audits and inspections as directed by the Cold Store Manager.
  • Identify areas for improvement in scheduling and coordination processes.
  • Provide feedback to the Cold Store Manager to enhance operational efficiency and client satisfaction.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR :

Educational Requirements :

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; a diploma or degree in Logistics, or Supply Chain Management is preferred.
  • Training or certification in logistics or warehouse management is advantageous.

Experience :

  • 2+ years of experience in logistics, planning, or warehouse coordination, preferably in a fruit cold storage environment.
  • Familiarity with scheduling and warehouse management systems (WMS) is an advantage.

Skills :

Your areas of responsibility:

  • Issue loading instructions to drivers and ensure that the correct loading sequence is followed
  • Monitor the loading progress, ensure that the products are loaded correctly and that the load is secured
  • Monitor the on-route progress of the vehicles and coordinate any non-conformance with the Logistics Planners
  • Manage the sleeping points and breaks of drivers, along with any requests pertaining to personal affairs
  • Coordinate with the off-loading points and clients, to ensure the products are successfully off-loaded and that the client is updated throughout the process
  • Debrief each driver upon arrival in the depot, verifying that the correct procedures were followed and that their paperwork is up to date
  • Debrief drivers and discuss their on-route behaviour, as well as any personal issues such as leave, off-weekends etc.
  • Check the drivers paperwork against the loads to ensure its accuracy
  • Coordinate with the Debtors Department to submit all paperwork for invoicing to our clients

Skills Requirements:

Requirements:

Requirements and Qualifications

Education

Bachelors degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Operations Management, or related field (essential)

Postgraduate qualification or certification in Supply Chain, Logistics, or Procurement (preferred)

ISO and / or JSE compliance training or certification (advantageous)

Experience

Minimum 10+ years in a supply chain or logistics management role

Proven experience in procurement, shipping, warehousing, and inventory management

Experience in annuity-based product and consumable logistics (advantageous)

Strong track record in budget and KPI management

Exposure to office automation or tech distribution sectors (advantageous)

Technical Skills

Proficient in ERP systems (e.g., Athena, Just Enough, SAP, Oracle)

Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical capability

Knowledge of forecasting tools and inventory planning systems

Understanding of import / export regulations and logistics documentation

Strong leadership and team management

High attention to detail and problem-solving ability

Excellent negotiation and communication skills

Ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure

Financial and commercial acumen

Process-oriented with a focus on continuous improvement

A leading food manufacturing company situated in Gauteng is urgently seeking the expertise of an experienced Plant Supply Chain Manager to join their team.

The successful incumbent for this position will be responsible for:

  • Provide leadership and oversight to the scheduling & logistics team, including materials purchasing planning, production scheduling, inventory management, product life cycle change management, disposals, risk and SLOB management, and master data governance. Identify and implement improvements to working practices to improve efficiency, performance and reliability in the supply chain, including vendor management, seasonality and promotions planning and supplier inventory planning. These activities should deliver expected PPOF, PPLF, PTP and PR agreed-on targets, which in collaboration with Central Supply Planning deliver Customer Services levels.
  • 100% Engagement: Drive the team to a culture of total employee ownership by effectively managing systems to drive empowerment and engagement for all Employees and promoting active participation in learning and continuous improvement activities. This includes Building the capability of the workforce separately, Employee development and coaching in behaviours and competency development, as well as management of daily, weekly, and monthly review processes.
  • Responsible for all systems monitoring and enhancements (SAP), system training and core power users. Main lead into McCormick IT for technical enhancements/changes.
  • Responsible for the tactical and strategic factory materials and inventory plans, set targets, and manage year-on-year stock value/inventory turnover improvements to support Supply Chain targets. Input into the S&OP process at the Site.
  • Represent the plant on local, regional and global Supply Chain projects, with regard to Commercialisation, CCI and engineering changes. This includes the execution of Commercialization projects and Warehouse work transportation for safety risk.

Key requirements:

  • Degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Business, Management or related field desirable.
  • Experience in Production and materials planning, and management required.
  • Operations / Supply Chain background and proven track record of target-focused delivery in a fast-paced Operational environment required.
  • Working knowledge of cycle count process, SAP preferred.
  • Demonstrable leadership skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
