About the Role

You’ll oversee accounting operations, financial reporting, compliance, and working capital management. You’ll drive cost control, budgeting, forecasting, and risk management — ensuring robust internal controls and a high-performing finance team that delivers consistent results.

Responsibilities
  • Manage general ledger, AP/AR, payroll, stock accounting, and period-end closings
  • Prepare monthly management accounts, financial packs, and statutory compliance
  • Lead annual budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and scenario planning
  • Monitor cash flow, working capital, payables, and receivables
  • Oversee ERP systems (e.g., Syspro) to ensure accurate reporting and controls
  • Develop and maintain strong internal controls and risk management frameworks
  • Partner with department heads to manage costs and drive efficiency
  • Lead and mentor the finance team to foster a disciplined, accountable culture
Qualifications
  • BCom Accounting or equivalent (Honours, CA(SA), or CIMA advantageous)
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a managerial finance role, ideally in wholesale, FMCG, or distribution
  • Strong technical accounting skills and ERP systems knowledge (Syspro preferred)
  • Excellent leadership, analytical thinking, and commercial acumen

Main Purpose of the Role

This position entails working in a team of highly skilled individuals, managing tight deadlines and owning a multitude of controlling and reporting activities across SA and the SSA Region. This includes overall responsibility for reporting in SAP ERP, SAP SAC, SAP Group reporting, Planon, and Enablon.

This function will take over as owner of SAP SAC and SAP GR functions and will be responsible for all aspects of reporting, reporting to the Manager Controlling regarding task completion.

The Financial Controller will assist the Manager, Controlling with the Group internal control framework (34 Key Controls), ad-hoc analyses, and the Annual Financial Statements for the DSV AFRI Region, as well as assist in managing audits and drafting annual financial statements in the SSA space. Be innovative and forward-thinking to identify new ideas to assist the team and be a business partner.

The Financial Controller will provide support to Business Controlling, MDs, and other departments within the organization, as well as external stakeholders such as auditors, which requires strong interpersonal communication skills both written and verbal. Effective communication is essential for success in this area and the highly deadline-driven environment.

Tertiary Qualification

  • BCom Accounting honours Degree or related financial qualification
  • SAIPA/CIMA or similar is an advantage
  • Advanced: MS Excel, MS Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote

Additional Computer Skills

  • Advanced: SAP 4/HANA

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Review financial figures in SAP GR (P/L, B/S, Cash Flow) and comment on deviations against budget for both current and prior periods.
  • Keep the Statutory TB up to date monthly as well as the Statutory asset register.
  • Update Group Company Records (Simpler Legal) in a timely manner.
  • Update and send progressive balance sheets and review critical reconciliations before month-end.
  • Liase with business to ensure accurate accruals and provisions are raised.
  • Assist with the monthly controlling review performed by the team as well as deep dive into P&L reviews below GP.
  • Responsible for correct RITS (Regional IT Service cost) reporting on a monthly basis. Ensure sign-off from local stakeholders (RITS responsible) as well as group stakeholders.
  • Support and assist department Manager with all elements of monthly reporting to Group Financial Controllers.
  • Team lead for Planon (Group tool for IFRS 16)
  • Consolidation of Risks & Opportunities for Exco.
  • Assist in ESG reporting quarterly and insurance reporting half-yearly.
  • Ensure monitoring and actioning of monthly task lists.

  • Assist in the budget process as well as the uploading of budgets.
  • Support the Business with compliance matters and financial analysis functions.
  • Liase with AP, AR, CM, and Senior Management.
  • Ad hoc duties for management and senior management.
  • Period-end close responsibilities.
  • This position might involve limited travel of up to approximately 10 days a year.

This is the lead financial role within LESA and will manage a local Finance Team. Lucy Electric is a leader in secondary power distribution solutions with over 100 years’ industry experience, specialising in high-performance medium voltage switchgear for utility, industrial and commercial applications. The role reports to the Group Finance Director with day-to-day reporting to the General Manager LESA.

Job dimensions

Travel may be required abroad or within Southern Africa as needed.

Key accountabilities
  • Financial reporting: analyse and review monthly results; perform variance analysis against current and prior year monthly results; prepare monthly management reports; provide support and strategic input to management; identify trends and provide improvement recommendations.
  • Financial control: responsibility for financial control and record keeping; develop financial control systems and procedures; manage year-end audit and relationships with local auditors; ensure integrity of inventory.
  • Financial planning: prepare quarterly profit, balance sheet and cash flow forecasts; prepare annual budget and coordinate management plan; input into Lucy Electric’s medium-term strategic plan; manage funding and cash flow; analyze forecast and budget results; perform variance analysis against budget and prior year.
  • Treasury: responsible for foreign currency conversion (with Group Treasury); manage customer credit limits and cash collections; manage local banking relationships.
  • Tax: ensure compliance with local tax regulations; manage both direct and indirect taxes; collaborate with local tax specialist and liaise with Group Tax.
  • Business partnering: provide financial information and advice to support decision-making by CEO and local management; develop financial/operating management information; support sales tendering and financial reviews of key tenders and contracts; support outsourcing, cost control and other business initiatives; develop financial models; develop best practice and performance metrics; represent Finance in Microsoft D365 development; manage the Finance department and day-to-day staff management, including performance appraisals and employee development.
  • Other duties: undertake any other duties as required to maintain/improve efficiency, quality, and service.

The Financial Controller is responsible for:

  • The daily finance operations of all shipments allocated to them - this involves invoicing clients, processing invoices received from suppliers and overall cost management and profit maximisation.
  • The finance team liaises with various shipping providers, suppliers and clients; primarily over email and when required, over the phone in a timely and professional manner.

On a practical level, this role also involves:

Duties & Responsibilities

Job & Company Description:
My client is a global leader in the Mining space and has been in operation for over 7 decades. They are focused on the mining of various minerals locally and into Europe.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the compilation, review and presentation of management accounts for 3 subsidiaries, and reporting directly to a Group Financial Controller. Managing 2 Financial Accountants.

Job Experience & Skills Required:

  1. BCom
  2. Completed articles/fully completed CIMA
  3. Experience in the property space - advantageous
  4. Experience on Sage – preferred
