Responsibilities- Manage general ledger, AP/AR, payroll, stock accounting, and period-end closings
- Prepare monthly management accounts, financial packs, and statutory compliance
- Lead annual budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and scenario planning
- Monitor cash flow, working capital, payables, and receivables
- Oversee ERP systems (e.g., Syspro) to ensure accurate reporting and controls
- Develop and maintain strong internal controls and risk management frameworks
- Partner with department heads to manage costs and drive efficiency
- Lead and mentor the finance team to foster a disciplined, accountable culture
- BCom Accounting or equivalent (Honours, CA(SA), or CIMA advantageous)
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in a managerial finance role, ideally in wholesale, FMCG, or distribution
- Strong technical accounting skills and ERP systems knowledge (Syspro preferred)
- Excellent leadership, analytical thinking, and commercial acumen

Main Purpose of the Role
This position entails working in a team of highly skilled individuals, managing tight deadlines and owning a multitude of controlling and reporting activities across SA and the SSA Region. This includes overall responsibility for reporting in SAP ERP, SAP SAC, SAP Group reporting, Planon, and Enablon.
This function will take over as owner of SAP SAC and SAP GR functions and will be responsible for all aspects of reporting, reporting to the Manager Controlling regarding task completion.
The Financial Controller will assist the Manager, Controlling with the Group internal control framework (34 Key Controls), ad-hoc analyses, and the Annual Financial Statements for the DSV AFRI Region, as well as assist in managing audits and drafting annual financial statements in the SSA space. Be innovative and forward-thinking to identify new ideas to assist the team and be a business partner.
The Financial Controller will provide support to Business Controlling, MDs, and other departments within the organization, as well as external stakeholders such as auditors, which requires strong interpersonal communication skills both written and verbal. Effective communication is essential for success in this area and the highly deadline-driven environment.
Tertiary Qualification
- BCom Accounting honours Degree or related financial qualification
- SAIPA/CIMA or similar is an advantage
- Advanced: MS Excel, MS Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote

- Review financial figures in SAP GR (P/L, B/S, Cash Flow) and comment on deviations against budget for both current and prior periods.

- Update Group Company Records (Simpler Legal) in a timely manner.
- Update and send progressive balance sheets and review critical reconciliations before month-end.

Key accountabilities- Financial reporting: analyse and review monthly results; perform variance analysis against current and prior year monthly results; prepare monthly management reports; provide support and strategic input to management; identify trends and provide improvement recommendations.
- Financial control: responsibility for financial control and record keeping; develop financial control systems and procedures; manage year-end audit and relationships with local auditors; ensure integrity of inventory.
- Financial planning: prepare quarterly profit, balance sheet and cash flow forecasts; prepare annual budget and coordinate management plan; input into Lucy Electric’s medium-term strategic plan; manage funding and cash flow; analyze forecast and budget results; perform variance analysis against budget and prior year.
