The role is responsible for creating a high-performance culture and leading the production team to effectively deliver on the set production and respective business continuity targets through an integrated value chain. The role holds the legal accountability with a appointment in terms of the MHSA, responsible for the overall safe operation and maintenance of equipment including availability of HME, light vehicle, and pit dewatering services at Venetia Mine.
Key Result Areas
- Role incumbent will be appointed in terms of MHSA Reg and has a strong focus on legal compliance
- Ensure adherence to the company's Safety, Health and Environmental management programmes and that objectives are implemented according to MHSA legislation and the Strategic Management Plan
- Direct and identify the implementation of policies and procedures to ensure adherence to mining standards, organisational standards and legislative requirements
- Allocate and manage the utilisation of financial resources and value add to optimise engineering availability and life cycle management of equipment.
- Management and co-ordination of team and resources to execute maintenance and operational plans for Caterpillar HME Fleet, light vehicle & support equipment fleet, and pit dewatering infrastructure
- Repair and Maintenance (R&M) contract management for Venetia Mine Caterpillar Fleet
- Management of the open pit dewatering infra-structure for safe operation and maintenance.
- Management of the mine surface fleet collision prevention system implementation and maintenance
- Implement maintenance strategies and tactics to deliver availability, reliability and cost performance to mine business plan
Qualifications
Mnimum Requirements:

- Ndip (N6) or B-Tech or Bachelors' Degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical)

Qualifications
- Recognised Degree in Safety and Risk / Mining / Engineering (NQF 7) combined with practical experience.
- Registration with a South African professional institution would be advantageous.
- A minimum of 8-10 years operational Safety, Health and Risk experience at a managerial level.

You will be responsible for the Installation and Maintenance of underground Mine Automation Systems controlling and managing Trackless Mobile Machinery, associated components and technologies including autonomous navigation and wireless telecommunication. The System Technician has two focus areas with overlaps for career growth and knowledge sharing: Field Control equipment and Automation Systems.
The broader team includes TMM Technicians with the focus being the onboard TMM automation, communication components and 3rd party systems, an essential element to successful automation of mining. This will require strong collaboration, teamwork and knowledge sharing.
Your Role Will
- Install, configure, repair, inspect and commission hardware, software and telecommunication system components of a diverse technical nature.
- Maintain tools and equipment for maintenance and service work.
- Upgrade Automation systems with new hardware and software to keep it up to date.
- Plan preventative and corrective maintenance tasks on Mine Automation Systems including field instrumentation, communication infrastructure, software systems and TMM onboard systems in collaboration with the TMM Technicians as part of the team.
- Conduct routine maintenance and services Mine Automation Systems.
- Report and document results after actions have been completed.
- Guide colleagues in service methods and use of tools-of-the-trade.
- Collaborate with TMM Technicians, Field Services, IT and other engineering disciplines in fault finding and trouble shooting of Mine Automation Systems.
Qualifications

You will be responsible for leading a team responsible for maintaining and assisting in the operation of equipment and systems according to sound engineering practice and equipment specifications.
Key Tasks Include But Are Not Limited To
- Investigate, diagnose, and perform trade related maintenance and repair of equipment and machinery according to the maintenance requirements
- Day to day management and operation of underground TMM section.
- Ensure that accurate labour records including overtime worked are maintained and record keeping of legal compliance.
- Attend to defects raised on pre-start reports, breakdown sheets and over-inspection reports.
- Perform equipment over-inspection on work done by artisans and operatives where appropriate and provide feedback and guidance as required.
- Discuss work backlog and future work requirements with the Supervisor and plan corrective measures to rectify, e.g., rescheduling, prioritizing, labour assistance, etc.
- Plan activities in accordance with production schedules and allocation of resources as required.
- Analyze and interpret maintenance related data and initiate required improvements.
- Lead and manage a multi-disciplined team that consists of different trades to achieve KPI's as required by the business expectations.
- Oversee the development of a healthy spirit of co-operation within the section.
- Identify operational priorities within the section that would ensure the optimization of the section's performance.
- Provide a consistent outstanding role model in relation to safety practices with a deep understanding of the importance of safety.
- Ensure safety and engineering policies are adhere to.

Qualifications
- Grade 12 or relevant national NQFL 4 qualification.
- Trade Certificate: Diesel Mechanic / Fitter or relevant trade qualification.
- Code B Driver's License
- Proven leadership and team management skills.
- Valid Safety Risk Management for Supervisors certificate or equivalent is an asset.
- Supervisory qualification would be advantageous
Role-specific Knowledge & Experience
- Minimum of 3 years' experience as a diesel mechanic / fitter or relevant trade of Underground Trackless Mobile Machinery.
- Minimum 3 years working experience in maintenance supervision of Underground TMM for tunnel development.
Mechanized mining machinery experience (SANDVIK and EPIROC). The equipment experiences to at least cover the following:
Single and Multi-boom Drill Rigs (Sandvik DD321, DD420, DD421, and DD422i)
- Bolters (Sandvik DS411, DS412i, and DS422i)
- In-the-hole (ITH) Long hole Drills (Sandvik DL321, DL421, DL422i, DL432i and Rhino 100)
- LHD (Load Haul Dumpers) and Underground Dump Trucks
Underground Support Fleet
Budgeting and cost control
- Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
Additional Requirements
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Service orientated in line with targets.
- Proficiency in SAP will be advantageous.
- Medical Certificate of Fitness to work underground.

The purpose of this position is to maintain Venetia Mine Service vehicles and Plant machines, e.g. MAN, Scania Buses, Service trucks e.g UD, MAN and Mercedes Benz, Truck mounted cranes and Diesel Bowser trucks, Manitou forklifts, Magni Telescopic Material Handlers, etc. and related equipment according to sound engineering practice and equipment specifications. Take ownership of the machines or equipment to be maintained by them, advising the foreman on the current condition of machines and advising on best solutions for maintenance.
Key Responsibilities

Qualifications
- Grade 12 certificate or relevant NQF level 4 qualification.
- A recognized Diesel Mechanic Trade Certificate.
Minimum Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years previous experience (as a qualified Artisan) in a vehicle maintenance workshop or support service infrastructure.
- Valid Code C1/Code 10 Driver's License.
- Vienna Assessment (Dover).
- Basic computer literacy and SAP will be advantageous.
- Experience in Dyno and Simret Testing will be advantageous.
Skills/Competencies
- Independent, proactive thinking and have the ability to do own job planning including SAP.
- Ensure and maintain sound budget control.

The role holder will be responsible for creating a high-performance culture and leading the Underground TMM and Fixed Plant Engineering & Maintenance team to effectively deliver on the set production and respective business continuity targets through an integrated value chain. The role holds legal accountability with a appointment in terms of the MHSA, responsible for the overall safe operation and maintenance of underground Trackless Mobile Machinery (TMM), fixed plant equipment, and infrastructure. This includes underground infrastructure, vertical shaft infrastructure, and associated surface infrastructure at Venetia Mine. This position will be supported by Section Engineers under a appointment.
Key Performance Areas
- Ensure legal, safety, environmental and hygiene standards are complied with and maintained within area of responsibility.
- Interpret organisational requirements for the section, to compile and develop a risk log with appropriate mitigation solutions that align with short, medium- and long-term Strategic Business Plan objectives.
- Implement policies and develop procedures to ensure adherence to SHE, Engineering and Operational standards.
- Allocate and manage the utilisation of financial resources and value add to optimise engineering availability and life cycle management of equipment.
- Management and co-ordination of team and resources to execute maintenance and operational plans.
- Stakeholder management: liaison with maintenance, operational & support function personnel to derive and execute fit for purpose engineering solutions according to sound risk management practices.
- Direct the development, motivation and utilisation of human resources for the section to ensure a competent knowledge base for continued success within area of responsibility.
- Coordinate the development, management and enhancement of maintenance strategies and plans to ensure optimal uptime and reliability of equipment within area of responsibility. (i.e. Fixed plant: Blue, Pink and Red Areas)
- Development of appropriate engineering maintenance and project systems to support strategic plans.
- Management of project and construction activities within area of responsibility.
- Ensure equipment maintenance strategies are operationalised into effective work packages and tactics.
- Ensure all work is planned, scheduled, executed and monitored and all legal appointment/ statutory requirements are executed.
- Implement critical Plant and Equipment strategies / tactics and ensure that these deliver to the defined availability, reliability and cost / operated hour within the lifecycle model and production plan.
Qualifications
The successful incumbent must meet the following criteria:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical) or equivalent.
- Government Certificate of Competency (Mines)
- Minimum of 10 years of extensive experience in underground Trackless Mobile Machinery (TMM), vertical shaft infrastructure, and major underground infrastructure. This includes but is not limited to main pump stations, degritters, MV and LV electrical reticulation, ventilation fans, and ventilation and water doors.
Required Skills / Competencies
- Knowledge of the Mine Health and Safety Act
- Proven ability in asset management with a demonstrated history of turning around under-performing Plant
- Proven ability in capital project management
- Proven ability in minimising operational and business risk management
