We have an opportunity for a Business Intelligence Business Analyst (BIBA) for our client based in Johannesburg and Cape Town. The role will ensure alignment between Product Owners, data chapter, and data squad teams and produce a comprehensive functional specification from business requirements by maintaining a high level of in-depth knowledge regarding analytics and other relevant data concepts.

1. Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or similar fields (Information Systems, Big Data, etc.) would be advantageous.
2. AWS Certification would be advantageous.
3. At least 5 years of proven experience in drafting functional specifications.
4. At least 5 years of proven BI Business Analysis, data design, and systems analysis experience in a data and analytics environment.
5. At least 5 years of stakeholder engagement experience for identifying and specifying business requirements.
6. At least 5 years of liaising between business and functional stakeholders; translating requirements experience.
7. 3+ years of Business Information Business Analysis experience in a finance/banking environment.
8. Martech (Marketing Technology) experience advantageous.
9. Related technical certifications.
10. Knowledge of Agile methodologies and project management practices, including Scrum, Kanban, and Lean.
11. Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
12. Ability to work independently and in a team environment in an Agile framework.
13. Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.

Identify, clarify, and agree on data and analytics requirements. Liaise with Product Owners to understand and document their data and analytics requirements, performing analytical processes and measures related to the processes. Adopt multiple actions with stakeholders to elicit requirements using interviews, document analysis, requirements workshops, surveys, business process descriptions, user cases, scenarios, and business analysis. Provide functional knowledge and expert input during planning, design, and implementation phases of projects and initiatives between Data Chapter, Data Squad, and business. Assist stakeholders (e.g., Product Managers) with data-related scoping and planning. Apply end-to-end best practices to deliver data and analytics requirements. Ensure appropriate testing is done and provide the business with assistance during user acceptance testing. Provide the business with functional and technical assistance during data and analytics implementations. Apply business and data and analytics functional knowledge to identify possible improvement opportunities and motivate with business. Own personal continued professional development to remain current with data and analytics industry trends, particularly around data and analytics tools and technologies. Analyze, understand, and document relevant data and analytics technical requirements; perform data modeling and map the analytic solution to the relevant data sources. Work closely with the Data Architect(s) and Data Modeller(s) to design, refine, and implement analytic solutions in order to execute the functional design of the relevant data and analytics solution, including reports and dashboards. Provide input to data governance and data and analytics quality assurance; identify and communicate all risks. Perform functional testing and data validation of reports and other data and analytics deliverables before presenting them to business users. Apply data and analytics functional knowledge to identify and motivate possible data and analytics support/improvements. Facilitate the Data Product Life Cycle and application of best practice/process. Act as the custodian of the reporting catalogue; maintain the information framework and reports. Facilitate the process between all teams regarding data governance and processes.

We are looking for an enthusiastic business intelligence (BI) developer to help shape the MiWay Sales reporting landscape. Focus will be on designing various analytical reports on company data and delivering them to top management and other interested parties. As a BI developer, you will be working with business users, collecting their requests, and then updating the set of existing BI reports to accommodate business needs. BI developers will be expected to establish company standards and common reporting terminology, and to help align existing and future reporting requests to such standards. You will also be interacting with data warehouse architects whenever data schemas need redesigning to accommodate new reporting requirements.

Minimum Qualification Required

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or information technology

Minimum Experience

• Minimum of 3 years’ experience working within a Microsoft environment using SQL, SSIS and SSRS is needed.

Deliverables include, but will not be limited to

• Analysing and understanding data from multiple sources including sales, customer, accounting data sets and create integrated views that can be used to drive decision making within the Sales environment.
• Working with several large and complex SQL databases
• Be fully capable of developing OLAP or Tabular Model Cubes within a SQL environment. {SQL Server 2010 or higher}
• Working with our clients, creating a relationship and deliver to their requirements.
• Collect and maintain the set of business reporting requirements.
• Implement BI reports based on the above requirements.
• Analyse existing reports and optimize them for standardization across the company.
• Set up and maintain BI tools, infrastructure, and integration with company data sources.
• Work with data warehouse architects. Propose data schema and data flow optimization for reporting performance and enhancement as needed.

Competencies Required

• Proven experience as a BI Developer/ BI Analyst
• Insurance Industry experience is preferred (with an understanding of sales being advantageous)
• Background in data warehouse design (e.g., dimensional modelling)
• In-depth understanding of database management systems, online analytical processing (OLAP) and ETL (Extract, transform, load) framework
• Familiarity with BI technologies (e.g., Microsoft Power BI, PowerApps)
• Knowledge of SQL queries, SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) and SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS)
• Proven abilities to take initiative and be innovative
• Analytical mind with a problem-solving aptitude
• Adept at the use of BI reporting tools such as Power BI
• Willing to learn on the job

To develop, deploy, and maintain BI and analytical solutions using the relevant query tools, data visualization & interactive dashboards, ad hoc reporting, and data modelling tools, thereby transforming data into knowledge for business / client use.

• Translate business needs into technical BI Solutions.
• Design, build and deploy BI solutions using Microsoft Azure and PowerBI stack:

  • Build the necessary ETL jobs using Synapse Analytics.
  • Build tabular cubes utilizing MDX and DAX languages.

This role requires an experienced and highly skilled senior business intelligence specialist with expertise in Microsoft Stack, specifically with strong experience in data warehousing, data lake technologies, and Power BI. The incumbent will serve as the technical expert responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining robust and scalable business intelligence solutions using Microsoft technologies such as SQL Server, Azure Data Warehouse, Azure Data Lake, and Power BI. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements, architect data warehouse and data lake solutions, create insightful reports and visualizations, and deliver actionable insights to meet stakeholder needs.

Formal Education:

• Minimum 3 year Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field (NQF 7). Honours/Master qualification will be advantageous.
• Relevant certifications in Microsoft Stack, Power BI, and data warehousing technologies (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate) are desirable.

• Minimum 8 years of proven work experience as a Business Intelligence Specialist or similar role, with a focus on the Microsoft Stack, expertise in data warehousing, data lake technologies, and Power BI development.
• Experience in working with/in SQL Server, Azure Data Warehouse, Azure Data Lake, Azure Synapse Analytics, and Power BI.
• Experience working in an agile and waterfall development environment, following best practices for project management and collaboration.
