The Opportunity
Our South Africa team is seeking a strategic, experienced Water Infrastructure Lead to join our dynamic team working on innovative water infrastructure projects in Africa and globally. This is a rare opportunity to build and lead a team in a high-priority growth area for Arup, with strong support from global and regional leadership.
The ideal candidate will have deep experience in technical areas such as pipelines, pump stations, water treatment, and wastewater treatment, with a proven track record of developing long-term client relationships, securing impactful work, and delivering projects successfully.
- Build and maintain client relationships with water utilities, public agencies, and private entities. Identify and pursue high-impact opportunities aligned with Arup’s strategy.
- Lead proposals and major pursuits, ensuring alignment with team capabilities and vision.
- Coordinate with discipline leads, project managers, and business leaders to shape integrated delivery teams. Lead, manage, and mentor teams.
- Lead projects to ensure high-quality outcomes that meet client and Arup expectations, and identify strategic hires to develop internal talent.

- A relevant tertiary qualification (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, etc.) and professional registration with ECSA.

WSP has a new full-time opportunity within our Water Use and Resource Management team for a Principal Hydrologist or Water Resources Engineer, based in Midrand. You will be supporting and contributing on hydrological projects such as storm water management, hydrology studies/modelling, river design, water intakes, water quality modelling, climate assessment and modelling and water management plans.
Qualifications- Bachelor of Science in Hydrology, preferably with an Honours degree (Masters highly advantageous), including 5+ years’ working experience in a similar field, and experience in the field of Environmental Engineering related to surface water is required OR
- Bachelor of Science in Civil/Chemical or Mechanical Engineering with exposure to environmental water related engineering
- Membership of professional industry bodies (Pr.Sci.Nat, Pr Eng) or similar
- Extensive experience in project management on a wide range of projects – a project management qualification would be advantageous

Job Purpose
We are inviting a passionate Environmental or Social Scientist to join our Water Resources Management team based in Cape Town. In this role, you will collaborate with a dynamic group of engineers, hydrologists, and scientists to support the delivery of Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) projects across Africa and the Middle East.
Role responsibilities
- Support integrated water resources management and development planning initiatives, including catchment management and basin planning.
- Evaluate climate risks and vulnerabilities impacting infrastructure, ecosystems, and livelihoods using remote sensing, GIS, and other digital tools.
- Contribute to long-term strategic planning, focused on water resilience and sustainable development.

- Facilitate workshops, meetings, and capacity-building events with clients.

- Master’s degree in environmental sciences, hydrology, climate sciences, natural resource management or related fields.

About the role:
We are seeking to appoint an experienced and dynamic Hydrologist in our accomplished water resources management team in Cape Town or Tshwane. Role Responsibilities
Based on your diverse professional experience and technical knowledge your responsibilities will a combination of the following across various geographies:
Lead hydrological studies including watershed modelling, floodplain mapping, and water balance assessments.
Develop and apply hydrologic and hydraulic models (e.g., WEAP, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, SWAT, MIKE HYDRO Basin).
Analyze precipitation, streamflow, groundwater, and climate data to support water resource planning.
Provide expert input on flood risk, stormwater management, and drought mitigation strategies.
Collaborate with engineers, ecologists, planners, and government agencies on multidisciplinary projects.
Mentor junior hydrologists and review technical work for accuracy and quality.
Support stakeholder engagement and public consultation processes.
Stay current with emerging trends in hydrology, climate science, and water policy.
BSc, preferably MSc degree in Hydrology.
Registration as a Pr. Sci. Nat or equivalent
At least 5 years postgraduate experience in hydrological assessment
Familiarity with integrated water resource management (IWRM) principles
Effective planning and time management skills.
Ability to lead, mentor and manage people and have strong inter-personal and networking skills.
Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).

The Employer is seeking a skilled and forward-thinking Environmental Engineer to lead initiatives that reduce the organisation’s ecological footprint, ensure environmental compliance, and drive innovative sustainability solutions across manufacturing operations. This role blends technical engineering expertise with strategic problem-solving, enabling you to design and implement projects that enhance efficiency, minimise waste, and meet – or exceed – regulatory and stakeholder expectations.
You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams, embedding sustainability principles into product design, production processes, and long-term development strategies, while fostering a culture of environmental responsibility throughout the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and implement a comprehensive Sustainability Management System for the organisation and subsidiaries.
Integrate sustainability principles into engineering, product development, manufacturing, and policy .
Design and implement technical solutions to improve resource efficiency and generate revenue from waste streams.
Identify and secure government incentive schemes to support sustainability initiatives.
Lead ESG and non-financial reporting , ensuring accuracy and transparency.
Build strong relationships with government, municipal, and industry stakeholders to influence environmental practices and policies.
Ensure full compliance with environmental and sustainability regulations, reducing legal and reputational risk.
Analyse environmental performance data to identify improvement opportunities and measure progress.

Minimum Requirements
National Diploma / BSc / BTech in Environmental Management, Environmental Engineering, Sustainability Management, or related Engineering field.
5–10 years’ experience in the manufacturing industry.
Minimum 3 years in a sustainability management, environmental engineering, or environmental leadership role in manufacturing, with a proven track record.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office .
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills at all organisational levels.
Proven analytical skills with innovative problem-solving ability.
Experience with ISO 14001 , ESG reporting, and large-scale sustainability project design (including funding solutions).
Ability to influence national and regional policy and legislation .
Desirable
Knowledge of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) legislation .
Experience in water and effluent treatment technologies .
Postgraduate qualification in Business Management/Administration.
