- Preliminary concrete and structural steel design;
- Project design and construction scheduling;
- Cost estimating during tender phase by compiling a BoQ and liaising with the tender manager for turn-key cost submission;
- Contract administration and compilation of an NEC3 contract with civil service providers;
- Project Engineering duties ;
- Exceptional understanding of SANS, mining codes and environmental regulations ;
- Leading civil design to comply with process and mechanical requirements, while still be cost-effective and can be rapidly executed;
- Mentoring junior/graduate engineers;
- Taking responsibility for the civil design and execution, and making critical decisions ;
- Effectively communicating complex technical concepts to clients, contractors, and other stakeholders, both verbally and in writing;
- Identifying and analyzing technical issues, proposing creative and cost-saving solutions and designs, managing the design team and building contractors
3. Key responsibilities
- Attend tender briefings, prepare tender documentation, write method statements, assist with preliminary civil designs and pricing calculations, contribute to business development and tender processes as and when required;
- Facilitate and assist with the tender, evaluation and adjudication process leading up to contractor appointment and site handover;
- Ensure effective communication with the project team;
- Comply with Quality Control procedures by ensuring auditable trail of actions during full life cycle of project delivery process all in accordance with company quality management procedures;
- Comply with company procedures and processes in terms of projects registration, risk analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and invoicing;
- Confirm adherence to construction specifications and safety standards by monitoring project progress, inspecting construction site, and verifying calculations and placements;
- Supervise network analysis to ensure that work is performed to standard;
- Ensure that the project schedule is developed in line with the client requirements and approved by the client;
- Participate in continuous professional development training to maintain professional registration;
- Produces engineering documents by developing construction specifications, plans, and schedules.;
- Maintains operations by enforcing project and operational policies and procedures ;
- Provide detailed discipline engineering information by answering questions and requests to lead the team to the best practical solution;
- Maintains project database by writing computer programs, entering data, and completing backups;
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed;
- Travel between sites.
