Overview

Hire Resolve's client is currently seeking a highly skilled and experienced Distribution Manager to join their manufacturing team based in the Western Cape. The Distribution Manager will be responsible for overseeing all distribution operations, ensuring timely delivery of products to customers, and managing a team of warehouse and logistics staff.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement distribution strategies to meet customer requirements and improve efficiency
  • Manage all aspects of warehouse operations, including receiving, storing, and shipping products
  • Monitor inventory levels and ensure accurate stock counts
  • Coordinate with the production team to ensure the timely delivery of products
  • Lead and supervise a team of warehouse and logistics staff, providing training and performance feedback
  • Maintain compliance with health and safety regulations in the warehouse
  • Analyze data and reports to identify areas for improvement and implement solutions
  • Develop relationships with carriers and suppliers to optimize transportation and distribution costs

Qualifications
  • Tertiary qualification degree/diploma in logistics.
  • Minimum 10 - 15 years of distribution and warehousing experience in an FMCG environment within a large distribution center environment
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a management position (managing a workforce of more than 50)
  • Proven track record of successfully implementing operational best practices in a distribution and warehousing environment.
  • Minimum 5 years of WMS experience.
  • ERP systems knowledge and experience (JDE).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel.
  • Demonstrated success with productivity and cost-saving initiatives.

POSITION INFO:

Job Purpose

Responsible for the correct storing, movement and stock take of all dry goods / consumables and product inventory according to company procedures with specific focus on stock intake and investigation of any stock variances throughout the stock flow process.

Reporting to:

Head: Financial Reporting and Analysis

Output:

Inventory

  • Responsible for the movement and control of all product inventories, including carcasses / boxes from internal and external suppliers according to company processes and procedures.
  • Responsible for the movement, control and issuing of all dry goods / consumable inventory according to company processes and procedures.
  • Ensure accurate and adequate labelling and positioning of all labels.
  • Orchestrating all paperwork to creditors department on stock intakes (On-and offsite locations)
  • Weekly stocktaking (including the posting of stock batches) of all dry goods / consumables and product inventory according to agreed SOP’s.
  • Weekly/Monthly reconciliations of Inventory movements and investigating all discrepancies/deviances to implement corrective actions.

Management Reporting and Analysis

  • Weekly/Monthly reporting of Inventory movements and variances.
  • Recognizing and reporting on patterns and trends in weekly/monthly Inventory movements and variances.
  • Serve as Finance support to the Plant Manager and Analyst team (specific with regards to stock related matters).

People Supervision

  • Supervise and control stock take teams.
  • Assure stable employee relations by managing conflict and creating a positive and performing working environment.

Qualification details

  • BCom degree in finance

Experience

  • 3 - 5 years inventory control experience
  • 1 -2 years supervisory experience

Working week

  • Tuesday to Saturday (Please note for the first few months the working week will be from Monday to Friday, however when the Malmesbury Plant starts up, the working week will change to Tuesday to Saturday)

Plants/Location

  • The candidate will have the responsibility of working at two plants located in Elsies River and Malmesbury.
  • It will be necessary for the candidate to divide their time between the plants, being present at both locations on a weekly basis.
  • Ad hoc visits to the offsite storage facilities.

  • Familiarity with demand and fulfilment planning software (e.g., SAP IBP, Blue Yonder, Anaplan, Relex)
  • Exposure to inventory optimisation models balancing service levels and working capital
  • Awareness of Incoterms and their practical application in contract negotiations
  • Awareness of emerging technologies shaping supply chain best practices (e.g., blockchain, IoT, AI-driven and ML optimisation)
  • Understanding of end-to-end supply chain visibility tools and analytics dashboards
  • A minimum of 10-15 years merchandise planning and financial/business analysis, modeling and forecasting experience
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in a retail environment 5 Years functional experience – FMCG Supply Chain or Retail Planning
  • 5 Years commercial experience including accountability for large budgets
  • Strong planning and buying experience with solid understanding of financial and statistical analysis of both
  • Strategic leadership experience applying business and financial analysis skills and knowledge to solve business problems and influence decision making

Job Description

We’re Hiring: Supply Chain Manager

We’re looking for a seasoned professional with a background in pharmaceutical or cosmetic industries , who has successfully managed buyers and supply chain operations .

Key Responsibilities
  • Identify, evaluate, and recommend suppliers of raw materials, packaging, and critical components

  • Negotiate contracts to secure competitive pricing, timely delivery, and quality compliance

  • Build and manage supplier relationships, monitor performance, and drive improvements

  • Oversee inventory levels to minimise stockouts and excess inventory

  • Implement and track KPIs related to planning and supply chain performance

  • Conduct regular audits to ensure compliance with quality and regulatory standards

  • Collaborate with production, quality, finance, and cross-functional teams for smooth planning

  • Maintain robust inventory systems (ERP/WMS) to optimise stock levels

  • Identify supply chain risks and implement contingency plans

  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and ethical standards

  • Lead and coach the planning team, fostering a collaborative and results-driven culture

  • Stay updated on industry regulations and sustainable supply chain practices

Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or related field

  • 10+ years’ supply chain management experience , with at least 5 years in a hands-on managerial role

  • Strong exposure to GMP standards in Pharma, Cosmetics, FMCG, or Food sectors

  • Proven forecasting experience in a manufacturing environment

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a focus on process improvement

  • Proficiency in MS Office and supply chain management software (ERP systems)

  • Ability to perform in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
