• Tertiary qualification in Engineering.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in Mechanical Design and Project Management.

Overview : Performs laboratory tests and analyses to support pharmaceutical research and development, ensuring product quality and compliance with regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities : Conduct laboratory tests and experiments in accordance with established protocols.

Prepare and maintain laboratory equipment and instruments.

Collect and analyze biological and chemical samples.

Document experimental procedures, observations, and results accurately.

Ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards.

Qualifications : Bachelors degree in chemistry, Biology, or related field.

Experience in a pharmaceutical or clinical laboratory setting.

Familiarity with Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) guidelines.

Proficiency in laboratory information management systems (LIMS).

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB

To perform the role of Technician within the Minerals Processing division. Duties may be required within other departments of the Metallurgy division. The responsibilities and authorities of the Technician in the Minerals Processing division, in relation to requirements of managerial, technical, and key support personnel, are outlined in this document.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Technician shall adhere to the following:

1. Assume responsibility over processing of data, including reporting of the testwork according to company guidelines. Report writing must be at a high standard, professional and grammatically correct.
2. Take responsibility for the monitoring of consumables and associated expenses and coordinating this information with his or her divisional manager.
3. Evaluate and interpret results of testwork conducted and assist with troubleshooting.
4. Manage, train and direct subordinates in all matters related to quality, testwork methodology, safety, and time management.
5. Liaise with Clients when required.
6. Design and cost metallurgical testwork programs to achieve Client objectives.
7. Participate in project decision making during the testwork program.
8. Assist with monthly invoicing for testwork completed.
9. Ensure that work is scheduled and carried out in a timely manner, and relevant quality benchmarks are maintained.
10. Meet company targets with respect to turnover and quality.
11. Take responsibility for the effective and appropriate use of equipment and facilities, thereby always maintain good housekeeping.
12. Assist with the development, documentation and maintenance of methods and competence modules.
13. Adhere to all quality and safety requirements of the SGS management system.
14. Perform any other reasonable tasks as assigned by direct line manager.
15. Be fully able to conduct Mineral Processing testwork.

SPECIFIC AUTHORITIES

1. Manage production and operations safely.
2. Understand the requirements of the SGS Quality Management System.
3. Adhere to all Health and Safety regulations.
4. Cease the use of any equipment that may constitute a safety hazard or cease to enter hazardous environments without the necessary knowledge and protection. Report such situations to higher authorities to act.
5. Cease to continue with work that may affect the quality or integrity of services and report the situation to a higher authority to act.
6. Initiate a formal improvement request when a deviation of the system occurs, improvements are identified or when nonconformity is identified.
7. Remember that any person has the right to refuse to perform work that may damage the environment in an imminent and meaningful way and to report such a situation to a higher authority.
8. Stop work when it is unsafe.

Education

Matric Certificate with Diploma and or B.Sc. / B.Eng. in Chemical Engineering or Metallurgy. Experience may be considered if the candidate does not have a tertiary degree.

Experience

Minimum of 2-3 years in the relevant field.

1. Good mathematical skills. Be proficient in the use of Excel.
2. Effective communication skills i.e., to conduct and draft e-mails, proposals and reports professionally.
3. Drive projects to completion i.e., to work fast and accurate.
4. Have a sense of urgency i.e., to have good planning skills and to be organized and pro-active.
5. Be willing to learn more and be relentless in his or her pursuit of improvement.
6. Be able to multi-task i.e., to run and project-manage several projects in parallel.
7. Be available for extended shifts when required.
