About the Position:
We are seeking a Senior Mining Engineer with a deep understanding of underground mining design, scheduling, and project evaluation to lead and contribute to multidisciplinary study teams.
This role involves working closely with project managers, clients, and technical specialists to deliver practical, data-driven, and economically sound mining solutions.

Minimum Requirements:
- B.Eng / B.Sc (Mining Engineering) or equivalent from a recognised university.
- Professional registration (Pr.Eng or Pr.TechEng) with ECSA (or eligibility within 6 months).
- Proficiency in Deswik CAD/Scheduler, Microsoft Excel, and report-writing tools.
- Valid driver's licence and willingness to travel occasionally to project sites.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead or contribute to concept, pre-feasibility, and feasibility studies for underground mining operations.
- Develop and optimise mine designs, layouts, and access strategies (declines, raises, ore passes, stoping layouts, board and pillar mining layouts, sub-level open stoping etc.).
- Prepare and manage detailed production schedules in conjunction with ventilation, geotechnical design input and infrastructure plans.
- Perform technical and economic evaluations including, but not limited to equipment selection, productivity, cost estimation, and capital/operating expenditure modelling.
- Integrate geotechnical, ventilation, and infrastructure inputs into mine plans and ensure multidisciplinary alignment.
- Ensure all designs comply with DMRE, MHSA, and international best-practice standards.
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance to junior mine planners and scheduling teams.
- Support business development by contributing to proposals and client presentations.
- Review and prepare technical reports and study documentation to AACE and JORC/NI standards.
Experience:
- At least 4 years of professional experience in CAD designing and scheduling for underground mining. I
 n other words, doing the work and not supervising the work.
Demonstrated experience in:
- Narrow tabular hardrock mining: Conventional breast, Updip and Downdip, Sequential Grid; Mechanised Board and Pillar; Massive mechanised mining (Open stoping, Block Caving, Random Room and Pillar).
- Mine design and scheduling (Deswik, MineSched, or similar).
- Feasibility-level technical studies and project evaluations.
- Production and cost modelling for mechanised and/or conventional operations.
- Integration of ventilation, ground control, and infrastructure into mine planning.
- Understanding of AACE Class 3–5 study methodologies and deliverables.
- Prior involvement in consulting or EPCM-style study environments is highly advantageous.
- Exposure to hybrid and board-and-pillar layouts, shaft and decline access systems, and return-air and conveyor belt compliance design is a plus.

Location:

Job Type:
3 year contract, expected to work Full-Time hours 
Job Duties:
- Participate in options formulation for the Concept and Pre-Feasibility studies;
- Work closely with the Metallurgy department to refine the Concept and PF level options;
- Engage with various disciplines in order to agree the option to be developed for the Concept study;
- Use the latest MineMax/OPMS (Mine Planner) LoM/LoAP/RDP mining model to the required level of detail as prescribed in the methodology (Project Management Framework), ensuring the latest Geological Mod Factors and Process algorithms are updated and still valid;
- Design and simulate the required HME modelling to ensure optimal TCO for the go-forward; taking into consideration the latest OEEs, replacement norms, condition assessments, et al. The HME models must optimise LoM HME models
- and look at optimal integration between the two mines and future endowments.
- Obtain buy-in and sign off from the Head of Mining for the selected options (HME and Scenario outcomes);
- Produce regular updates to the Project Manager and also the Head of Mining (rhythms and routines to be setup and well maintained – incl. minutes and action logs);
- Produce the mining study report and also the mining chapters for the overall project study reports;
- The Development of the OPEX and CAPEX model with detailed costing for each scenario as agreed with the Project Manager and Head of Mining;
- The OPEX/CAPEX model to be developed in accordance to the guidelines in the clients (Project Management framework). The Opex information to be provided to the Financial modeler in the required format in order to perform the financial analysis – fully aligned with the latest RDP/LOAP/LOM financial model and Business Finance Model
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or related field

Experience:
- Minimum of 15 years in the iron ore mining industry
Knowledge and Skills:
- Strong understanding of mining principles and practises
- Proficiency in mining software and data analysis tools
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

- Effective communication and teamwork abilities
