About the role
As an AI Engineering Manager at KingMakers, you will lead the adoption of AI across the organization, driving cross-functional projects that blend innovation with real-world impact. You’ll define the technical vision for ML and generative AI, mentoring teams on best practices while ensuring our solutions are ethical, scalable, and business-focused. Your role will be to evangelize AI internally and empower teams to transform ideas into cutting-edge, reliable products.
What You Will Be Doing:
- Define and own the AI/ML roadmap, ensuring alignment with business goals and measurable impact across products and operations.
- Lead cross-functional AI initiatives, from early discovery to production-ready solutions, influencing stakeholders and driving adoption company-wide.
- Design and oversee robust ML and LLM pipelines, ensuring performance, reliability, and scalability.
- Champion the use of generative AI (LLMs, RAG, fine-tuning) and guide teams on best practices for responsible and explainable AI.
- Partner with Product, Data, and Engineering teams to identify opportunities for AI-driven innovation and automation.
- Establish and scale MLOps/LLMOps frameworks, including CI/CD, monitoring, model registry, and drift detection.
- Mentor and grow a multidisciplinary team of engineers and data scientists, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning.
- Drive cost/performance optimization of AI models and infrastructure (Azure OpenAI, Databricks, Kubernetes).
- Ensure compliance with data privacy (GDPR) and ethical AI principles, embedding governance and auditability into all processes.
- Act as the internal AI evangelist, running workshops, demos, and training sessions to build organizational AI literacy.
- Collaborate with external vendors and partners to evaluate, integrate, and scale AI tools effectively.
- Stay at the forefront of LLM and GenAI trends, rapidly testing and implementing new capabilities that give the company a competitive edge.
What You Need for This Role:
Technical skills
- Strong programming expertise in Python, PySpark, SQL , and experience with Bash/shell scripting for automation.
- Solid knowledge of data engineering patterns (Delta Lake/Lakehouse, ETL/ELT) with a focus on data quality and governance .
- Proven experience designing end-to-end ML pipelines , including feature engineering, training, evaluation, and deployment.
- Deep understanding of ML and deep learning frameworks (Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch).
- Hands-on expertise in LLM & GenAI , including prompt engineering, RAG architectures, fine-tuning (LoRA), model evaluation, and guardrails.
- Familiarity with AI coding agents (e.g., GitHub Copilot), orchestration frameworks (LangChain, Semantic Kernel), and vector databases .
- Advanced knowledge of Databricks, Azure core services (ADLS, ADF, Event Hub, Key Vault) and Azure Machine Learning Studio/Service.
- Experience with MLOps/LLMOps (MLflow, CI/CD, monitoring, drift detection, rollback strategies, feature stores).
- Skilled in containerization (Docker, Kubernetes/AKS) and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform).
- Strong foundation in data visualization and analytics (Matplotlib/Seaborn, Power BI).
- Understanding of security, compliance, and Responsible AI practices (GDPR, explainability, auditability).

For the position you would be required to have :
- Minimum of N3 in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
- Trade tested Artisan : Millwright, Fitter & Turner
- Sound electrical experience
- Minimum of 15 years’ maintenance experience in a food manufacturing or related field
- Minimum of 5 years’ MANAGEMENT experience
Responsibilities would include you to :
- Responsible for maintenance (planned & unplanned) in the factory environment as well as Health & Safety
- Responsible for new projects and specification of equipment & co-ordination with suppliers
- Co-ordinate planned maintenance tasks, ad-hoc maintenance tasks and health & safety tasks through the use of SAP Maintenance module
- Ensure completion of tasks to required standard and within timeframe
- Creation of purchase orders for all maintenance and equipment purchases
- Responsible for management and organisation of permanent staff and leave requirements in reporting structure
- Ensure that workplace safety standards are met and that appropriate safety clothes, shoes, hearing protection, etc are used
- Train and coach maintenance employees continuously
- Coordinate with Production staff to ensure that flow of production is maintained
- Schedule and conduct Toolbox talks
- Ensure a clean and safe work area in the Workshop
- Manage all outside contractors on-site

About The RoleAs a Engineering Manager in the Acquisition tribe, you will manage up to 11 engineers spread across two teams, namely the Merchant Activation team and the Conversion team. These teams look after how we onboard new businesses and do ongoing due diligence as well as the main Yoco Website and ecommerce site.
Engineering in the Conversion team is currently staffed by an external contracting firm.
Together with the Product Management lead and the Product Design manager, you will play a key leadership role in the tribe. This trio is accountable for what value this tribe delivers to the Yoco merchants.
This role reports to the Engineering Manager at the tribe leadership level.
What You Will Be Doing- People: Retain and grow existing talent, and attract new talent. As a Senior Engineering Manager you will lead approximately 10 engineers spread across 2 teams.
- Practices: Continuously improve engineering practices. As a Senior Engineering Manager you will be expected to recommend initiatives and lead multiple initiatives across Engineering that improve engineering practices.
- Delivery: Just as Product Managers are accountable for what teams build, Engineering Managers are accountable for how the what is delivered to our customers. To implement the how requires a detailed understanding of the what. We expect timely delivery with industry-leading quality and non-functional requirements (e.g. security, performance, availability and maintainability).
- Technical: Contribute to the Engineering technical direction and ensure that your teams are aligned with this technical direction. This might mean getting technically involved (e.g. coding, code reviews, etc.) to ensure that the initiatives move forward.
- 5+ years of experience as a software engineer
- 5 to 7+ years of experience managing up to 10 engineers (both backend and frontend-focused engineers)
- Experience leading a globally distributed team
- A track record of retaining, growing and hiring great people
- Experience in managing engineering teams in a product-based company (instead of a services-based company)
- Experience in driving business success and product development in a highly cross-functional organisation
- The ability to thrive with a high level of autonomy and responsibility
- Experience in payments and/or onboarding / KYC are a bonus
