Based Port Elizabeth. Highly successful and small Company that is consistantly growing and which specialises in Injection Moulding Manufacturing has a challenging, demanding and rewarding opening in its business. The factory also has a small Assembly Plant, in addition to supplying its manufactured products to a secure and expanding Customer base. There are approximately 80 staff in the factory that the Production Manager will be responsible for and lead which includes Operators and Setters. There are in the region of 200 SKUs which are manufactured and naturally, the settings have to be adjusted accordingly for each SKU. The Production Manager will form part of the Management Team consisting of a Financial Manager, Engineering Manager, Quality Manager and MRP/Logistics Manager, all of whom report into the General Manager of the Company (who is equal to the Managing Director). The factory/plant operates 6 days per week and 24 hours per day. It should be noted that a number of the Companys services are outsourced including Payroll and HR. As the Company is smallish, all management positions are very hands-on and responsibilities are often shared with other Managers in the Management Team as and when the need arises. For example, the Production Manager may need to be involved in ad hoc responsibilities like HR, Maintenance etc.
By way of summary, the Production Manager co-ordinates all the activities required in production, advises on the performance of production, creates data and various production reports. In addition, to ensure processes and products conform to Company and Customer requirements, ensures production objectives as well as targets are achieved and motivates quality improvement of products/processes and that quality standards are met.
Key performance areas, inter alia, include:
- Overall to maximise all process equipment, personnel, supplying Customers with quality products and on time delivery. To ensure compliance with the Quality Management System, Health and Safety and compliance with Enviromental Management System generally.
- Co-ordinate and manage all Production Staff which includes daily meetings with injection moulding machine Setters, motivating and problem solving, upskilling via training. Setting production objectives and ensuring targets are achieved (scrap %, absenteeism %, cycle time standards etc.)
- Ensure Company profitability including budgetary control issues and that the production budget is met. In this regard, control expenditure and motivate when required. Furthermore, ensure that all products are manufactured timeously and meets Customer quality and delivery requirements.
- Be involved in general IR issues including disciplinaries, counselling, conflict resolution, attending CCMA when required and other related activities (although the Company is not Unionised). It should be noted that the Company has never had any industrial action. There is the use of an External Labour Consultancy as and when required.
Requirements:
- Relevant qualification including Plastics Certificate and/or similar plus relevant injection moulding machine experience. This is a prerequisite for this role which includes machine setting and optimisation. Previous work experience in a plastics manufacturing environment.
- Superior interpersonal skills and experience as the Production Manager will liaise and interact with Customers, Departmental Managers, Warehouse Personnel. Ability to effectively manage, motivate, lead and upskill Subordinates.
- Sound experience in compilation of data as well as producing management/production reports. Therefore, sound skills in the use of Microsoft Excel, Word and Powerpoint and preferably experience with Databases.
