Job Description
A vacancy exists for a Registered Nurse - ICU Qualified based at Life Empangeni Private Hospital , reporting to the Unit Manager . The successful candidate will be responsible for providing holistic and optimal quality nursing care to critically ill patients to maximize positive outcomes, aligned with company and hospital strategic objectives.
Critical OutputsTo provide quality patient care by:
- Providing basic and specialized nursing care
- Communicating continually with patients and families regarding patient conditions
- Administering medication according to ethical and legal frameworks
- Reviewing and complying with internal policies and protocols
- Ensuring quality management systems are followed as per unit specifications
- Advocating for patients by motivating acuity to case management and notifying doctors of limitations
To provide effective people management by:
- Interacting with a multidisciplinary team
- Providing training and development for professional growth
- Ensuring the ICU team works within scope of practice with appropriate skills mix
To provide effective cost management by:
- Managing stock according to policies
- Controlling staff hours and leave in accordance with company policies
To ensure effective Infection Control and SHEQ practices by:
- Maintaining a safe, infection-free patient environment
- Promoting a safe work environment through alerts and incident reports
To maintain effective relationships with stakeholders by:
- Conducting in-service orientations on doctor-specific preferences
- Executing doctor requests and prescriptions after patient rounds
- Assisting multidisciplinary team members
To ensure the functioning of equipment and instrumentation:
- Checking daily and reporting defaults
- Educating staff and doctors on equipment use
To maintain accurate record-keeping:
- Ensuring records are completed and stored legally and ethically
- Relevant Degree or Diploma in Critical Care Nursing
- ICU nursing experience
- Strong customer orientation, team spirit, organization skills
- Ability to work under pressure in a dynamic environment
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Willingness to work flexi-hours and call system
- Problem-solving, analysis, judgment
