BIOVAC is one of the leading sterile vaccine manufacturers rooted in Africa, with our core purpose being to "protect life". We are looking to hire a dynamic, passionate, confident, proactive and meticulous QC Lead: Chemistry & Material Handling to join a goal-oriented team.
QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED:
- Degree or diploma in Chemistry / Analytical Chemistry / Biochemistry or equivalent.
- Recognition is given to Prior Learning and practical experience.
NECESSARY EXPERIENCE & INDUSTRY KNOWLEDGE:
- At least 6 years' experience in vaccine / pharmaceutical / biotech manufacturing industry.
- At least 3 years' experience at management level.
- Experience in quality and regulatory compliance within a cGMP facility.
- Strong leadership and team management abilities.
- Experience with LIMS, chromatography data systems and /or electronic documentation systems.
- Proficient in method and data review.
- Proven troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities within analytical testing.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE ROLE:
- Drive continuous improvement plans and priorities through the implementations of appropriate tools or methodologies to proactively manage risk, reduce wastage and to improve quality on site.
- Management of all Materials (Raw Material and Packaging) testing and Chemistry testing activities for product release.
- Participation in project teams as QC representative.
- Assist with the transfer of analytical methods from technology transfer partners to Biovac and their implementation in the laboratory.
- Assist with compiling of analytical method validation / verification protocols and reports.
- Assist with selection of analytical test equipment and participation in equipment qualification e.g., review of qualification documents.
- Assist with writing and updating of material and product specifications and test methods and standard operating procedures.
- Liaison with suppliers on technical issues where applicable.
- Maintaining laboratory operations at cGMP standards to ensure quality, safety and regulatory compliance.
- Departmental Management of the QC laboratory budget, ensuring alignment with GMP and regulatory requirements.
- Forecast costs for analytical testing, stability studies, reference standards, and consumables.
- Control expenditure related to equipment calibration, maintenance, and outsourced testing.
- Collaborate with procurement to optimize vendor contracts for reagents, instruments, and lab services.
- Prepare CAPEX proposals for new analytical technologies and lab upgrades.
- Monitor budget performance, analyze variances, and implement corrective actions.
- Maintaining that Stability Program, including compiling stability protocols and reports.
- Ensure that relevant testing is performed according to the Biovac Stability Program.
- Assist with the compilation of stability protocols and reports.
- Participation in quality audits and closing any gaps of findings.
- Ensure that OOS and OOT investigations are initiated and completed to the correct standard.
- Identify and / or participate in inspections, investigations, risk management and quality review exercises.
- Chemistry testing to support aseptic vaccine manufacturing performed to required quality and regulatory standards and within agreed time frames.
- Chemistry assay qualifications, validations, and verifications.
- Undisrupted, punctual, and safe operation of staff and processes pertaining to Chemistry Testing and the institutes operations.
- Technology transfer activities involving Chemistry testing within the agreed time frames.
- Review specifications, test methods and other QC procedures.
- Ensure the qualification and maintenance of premises and equipment used by the Chemistry team.
- Ensure that the required initial and continuing training of his teams personnel is carried out and adapted according to need.
- Responsible to ensure that the Material Handling (Raw Material and Packaging Materials) sections deliver services and solutions in alignment with pharmaceutical quality system requirements.
- Approve or reject starting materials, packaging materials intermediate bulk and finished product.
- Co-ordinate sampling and testing of sampling materials, packaging materials, components, production devices, intermediate, bulk and finished products as week as all warehouse related activities.

Job Purpose

Inventory
- Responsible for the movement and control of all product inventories, including carcasses / boxes from internal and external suppliers according to company processes and procedures.
- Responsible for the movement, control and issuing of all dry goods / consumable inventory according to company processes and procedures.
- Ensure accurate and adequate labelling and positioning of all labels.
- Orchestrating all paperwork to creditors department on stock intakes (On-and offsite locations)
- Weekly stocktaking (including the posting of stock batches) of all dry goods / consumables and product inventory according to agreed SOP’s.
- Weekly/Monthly reconciliations of Inventory movements and investigating all discrepancies/deviances to implement corrective actions.
- Weekly/Monthly reporting of Inventory movements and variances.
- Recognizing and reporting on patterns and trends in weekly/monthly Inventory movements and variances.
- Serve as Finance support to the Plant Manager and Analyst team (specific with regards to stock related matters).
- Supervise and control stock take teams.
- Assure stable employee relations by managing conflict and creating a positive and performing working environment.
- BCom degree in finance
- 3 - 5 years inventory control experience
- 1 -2 years supervisory experience
- Tuesday to Saturday (Please note for the first few months the working week will be from Monday to Friday, however when the Malmesbury Plant starts up, the working week will change to Tuesday to Saturday)
- The candidate will have the responsibility of working at two plants located in Elsies River and Malmesbury.
- It will be necessary for the candidate to divide their time between the plants, being present at both locations on a weekly basis.

DESCRIPTION:
Our client is seeking the services of a highly capable Finished Goods-Material Handlers to be based in Cape Town.
PURPOSE:
Reporting to the Business Development Manager, the successful candidate will play a critical role in supporting strategic operational goals, driving productivity, and fostering a culture of accountability and excellence within the warehouse.
The incumbent will take full ownership of operations—managing resources, ensuring consistent product quality, enforcing safety, and housekeeping standards, and leading the team to meet daily targets while identifying opportunities for process improvement.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Loading, unloading, shipping, and receiving warehouse items.
- Transporting materials to different locations within the facility.
- Optimizing loads to ensure operational efficiency.
- Securing loads to the machine before transportation.
- Inspecting for damages to vehicles.
- Scheduling vehicles for maintenance and repairs.
- Operating and managing technical equipment.
- Managing inventory by utilizing RF scanning equipment.
- Picking and wrapping orders for shipment.
- Identifying workplace safety hazards.
- Adhering to safety management standards.
- Adhering to production schedules.
- Loading and unloading materials using a forklift or other machinery
- Sorting, packing, labeling, and weighing materials as per company procedures.
- Transporting and relocating materials within the warehouse or factory
- Following safe driving guidelines and safety protocols
- Monitoring and maintaining accurate inventory records using RF scanning equipment or other tools.
- Must take initiative during downtime to help in warehouse environment.
- Prepare products and materials for shipment using forklift and manual labor.
- Load, unload, and stage products and materials by hand when needed and with Lift.
- Stacking empty pallets
- Control levers and other operating devices, such as forks and hoists, to load, transport and stack materials neatly
- Locating product within the warehouse facility
- Account for and secure materials or products for transport to designated areas
- Performing general warehouse duties as needed
- Inspect product load for accuracy and safely move product through facility ensuring timely and accurate delivery
QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Grade 12
- Forklift License a must.
- PPT License (Advantage)
- Minimum 2-4 years’ experience in a Warehousing/FMCG environment
- Experience in the use of digital scanners in the picking environment
- Strong computer literacy
- Self-driven with a strong sense of accountability
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong adherence to procedures and process control
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Tolerance for repetitive tasks with a focus on consistency and quality

- Report all faults and breakdowns of relevant Forklifts and equipment to Store person.
- Maintain daily cleanliness of forklift machinery/equipment and general area of work activity.
- Ad Hoc duties as and when required.
- Shift work required.
- Weekend work required.
- Mandatory Monthly cycle counts to be affected on all materials in RMS.
