Requirements:
- Tertiary qualification that will be relevant to this position
- At least 7 years senior management experience in a similar environment
- At least 5 years experience in a manufacturing environment
- Proven track record as a successful business leader
- In depth knowledge of corporate governance and general management best practices
- In depth knowlege of development and implementation of policies and procedures
- Knowledge of strategic development – marketing management, relationship management, sales development
- Experience in financial management
- Experience in quality control and quality assurance measures and management
- Experience and knowledge in health and safety standards
- Experience in managing a maintenance team
- Experiene in managing HR and IR including contracts, skills and development training
- Advanced computer skills
- Proficient in verbal and written English and Afrikaans

Job Description
ROLE PURPOSE
To coordinate, manage, support, execute, and monitor environmental health and safety programs, standards, and processes to ensure environmental health, safety, and compliance at the Brits Site.
To support the HSEQ Manager in all HSE site activities.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Support compliance with the HSE Management System requirements.
- Assist in implementation and compliance with Syngenta HSE Policy, Standards, and Processes.
- Ensure adherence to legal requirements relevant to the Brits site.
- Support and drive the HSE Objectives.
- Conduct Workplace Risk Assessments and follow up on actions to address identified gaps.
- Assess occupational hygiene controls and recommend improvements to comply with Syngenta and legal requirements.
- Manage PPE inventory and ensure availability for all employees and visitors.
- Coordinate and support H&S training: scheduling, conducting, and maintaining records.
- Ensure induction training is completed for all employees, visitors, and contract workers. Keep training materials updated and relevant.
- Conduct monthly HSE audits, ensure actions are implemented, and verify their effectiveness.
- Manage the Enablon IM&L program and follow up on the closure of observations, near-misses, and incidents.
- Ensure all incidents are reported, documented, investigated, and that recommended improvements are implemented.
- Manage the Go & See program: scheduling, availability of cards, and action raising in Enablon.
- Promote and implement actions to improve HSE cultural behavior.
- Support the HSE Chairperson with HSE Committee meetings and ensure follow-up on actions.
- Manage occupational hygiene surveys as per legal requirements.
- Oversee the Hand Safety, Legionella, and chemical exposure programs, along with other relevant health and safety programs.
- Conduct respirator face fit testing training for employees.
- Ensure emergency management equipment is available, inspected, and maintained in good condition.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the HSEQ Manager.
- Manage biological hazardous waste disposal in accordance with legislation.
- Maintain records of all HSE activities including training, surveys, audits, and communications.
- Assist the HSE&Q Manager in maintaining legal compliance for the site.
- Implement and ensure adherence to the communication strategy.
Qualifications :
KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE & CAPABILITIES
Critical knowledge
- Degree/Diploma in Environmental Health, Management, Occupational Health and Safety, or related field.
- HSE-related qualification.
- SAMTRAC or OHS Act Training preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years experience in chemical manufacturing industry advantageous.
Critical experience
- Experience with HSE Standards and Processes.
- Knowledge of OHS Act and Regulations.
- Understanding of Environmental legislative requirements.
- Proficiency in Risk Assessment techniques.
- Experience conducting audits and writing reports.
- Incident investigation skills.
Critical capabilities
