Laboratory Analyst (Shift Work)

A leading pharmaceutical company has a vacancy for a Laboratory Analyst to perform chemical testing on Finished Product and Water Samples.

Duties & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensures that the samples received agree to the Production Program and label copy.
  • Ensures the correct procedures are followed.
  • All results are correctly calculated to determine acceptability.
  • Ensures samples are taken at the correct process steps and released timeously.
  • Ensures that the monthly water points are sampled and tested timeously.
  • Tests finished products using current pharmacopoeias/SOP associated with ‘wet’ chemistry and instrumental techniques (HPLC, IR, UV, AA, FTIR, Flame photometer etc.), as appropriate.
  • Initiates an out of specification investigation form and reports failing results to the Supervisor/Manager during failures.
  • Ensures that equipment is calibrated and validated before use by checking the calibration.
  • Ensures that samples after analysis are defaced and discarded in the waste area.
  • Determines whether results are acceptable and liaises with Supervisor/Manager to determine if resampling/retesting is required.
  • Performs duties deemed necessary by Superior.
  • Assists in the investigation of out of specification results.
  • Ensures compliance to limits on the Analytical reports.
  • Tests customer complaints as and when required.
Requirements
  • BSc Degree or National Diploma in Chemistry.
  • 2-3 years Lab experience in Pharmaceutical Industry.
  • HPLC experience in Pharmaceuticals Quality Control Laboratory will be an advantage.

    • 5–7 years of experience in a Packaging Manufacturing Industry with hands-on exposure to Quality Control and Assurance

    Technical Skills:

    • In-depth knowledge of packaging processes (lamination, extrusion, printing, slitting, sealing)
    • Experience with lab instruments and testing procedures (tensile strength, bond strength, GSM, COF, WVTR, etc.)
    • Proficiency in ISO 9001 / ISO 22000 / HACCP and other quality management systems

    The Quality officer is positioned in the Quality department reporting to the Quality Manager.

    The level of the role relates to place in the organization and scope (being more administrative and working along protocols up to being the delegate for the Quality manager with significant seniority in specific Quality areas). The officer is an expert in Quality Management and Feed / Food Safety & Quality with good communication and training skills.

    KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

    The activities below are done autonomously or under close supervision of the quality manager (being the line manager) depending on the seniority of the position. The Quality manager is accountable.

    Quality Management

    o Ensure up to date quality management system (procedures and instructions) in line with Nutrace, relevant legislations, (certification) norms and / or customer demands.

    o Prepare yearly management review.

    o Maintain incident / crisis contact list.

    o Monitor status of quality plan, recommend actions when lagging and ensure follow up.

    o Provide training and education to employees on food and feed safety practices, including Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP), and other relevant food safety programs.

    o Key user for one or more IT solutions used to manage the quality processes.

    o Participate in HACCP team.

    o Depute for Quality Manager

    Quality Performance

    o Perform ingredient and supplier assessments and keep corresponding documentation up to date.

    o Perform self-assessments to identify gaps with NBSF, Nutrace, Certification schemes and customer requirements and support closure of gaps.

    o Execute and / or coordinate internal and / or external audits and initiate and monitor progress of corrective actions in case of deviations.

    o Perform hygiene rounds and work with production on hygiene, QC controls and 5S.

    o Prepare quality performance reports, analyse results and advice on follow up.

    o Prepare and support customer, GIA, Nutrace and customer audits, and follow up of non-conformities and recommendations.

    o Assist with the development and implementation of sampling plans and analytical methods to ensure that products and raw materials are sampled and analyzed appropriately.

    o Lead or support T&T tests and dummy recalls

    o Take admin role in case of incidents and crisis.

    o Investigate customer complaints and quality issues, working closely with other departments to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.

    o Participate in improvement projects.

    Quality Control and analytical services

    o Define the monitoring plans for incoming and manufactured goods and ensure correct execution. Support operations in in-process controls, in accordance with the organization guidelines and relevant standards and schemes.

    o Analyze QC and Quality data to identify trends and risks and develop and implement corrective and preventive actions as necessary.

    o Assure all analytical services are provided in time and with the required quality.

    Regulatory Affairs and Product Registrations (when in scope)

    o Support in maintenance of permits from the local authorities.

    o Support in development of product registration dossier (as producing OpCo or as selling OpCo – gathering all information, checking correctness.

    o Ensure changes in regulation are reviewed and necessary actions are taken.

    o Support or lead preparation and execution of inspections from authorities.

    Additional Job Description

    People Management -
