Our client in Pretoria West is seeking a Hydraulics Sales Representative who
will sell hydraulic components and systems to businesses in industries like
Construction – Mining and Manufacturing by identifying customer needs,
providing technical solutions, and building client relationships. Key
responsibilities include conducting market research, preparing quotes and
proposals, negotiating contracts, and achieving sales targets. The role requires
strong technical knowledge of hydraulics, excellent communication and
negotiation skills, and the ability to manage sales pipelines and maintain
customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
Client Engagement & Business Development: Serve as the primary contact
for clients, build long-term relationships, and identify new business
opportunities by visiting client sites and understanding their hydraulic needs.
Technical Consultation & Sales Support: Provide pre- and post-sales technical
advice, recommend appropriate hydraulic solutions, and assist with product
training.
Sales Process Management: Generate sales inquiries, prepare detailed
quotations and proposals, follow up on leads, and manage the sales pipeline
to close deals.
Market & Product Expertise: Conduct market research to identify industry
gaps, stay updated on the latest hydraulic technologies, and promote new
products and services.
Negotiation & Reporting: Negotiate contract terms and pricing, analyse costs,
and prepare regular reports for head office or senior management.
Essential Skills & Qualifications
Technical Knowledge: In-depth understanding of hydraulic systems,
components, fluid power, and hydrostatics.
Sales & Business Skills: Proven ability to generate leads, meet sales targets,
build strong customer relationships, and negotiate effectively.
Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Excellent ability to communicate
technical information, build rapport with clients, and collaborate with internal
teams.
Analytical Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities and the capacity to analyse
sales data and market trends.
Other Requirements:
• A valid driver's license and own transportation.
• Conducting on-site visits to assess customer hydraulic system
requirements.
• Preparing and presenting technical proposals and quotations.
• Collaborating with engineering and internal sales teams.
• Following up on leads and nurturing client relationships.

Job Description
Here is what you will do:
The Senior Hydraulics Engineer has proven experience in high energy water systems, including spillways, energy dissipation structures, and hydrodynamic impacts on hydraulic infrastructure. This role will involve concept development, advanced numerical and physical modelling, and the design of complex hydraulic systems associated with dams and hydropower projects.
Technical excellence:
- Develop and review designs for high energy hydraulic structures (e.g. spillways, plunge pools, stilling basins)
- Perform advanced hydraulic modelling (2D/3D CFD and/or physical model review)
- Evaluate hydrodynamic loads and pressure effects on structures
- Assess cavitation, air entrainment, flow instabilities, and transient effects
- Collaborate with civil and geotechnical teams on integrated design solutions
- Contribute to technical reports, specifications, and design documentation
Qualifications
Here is what we are looking for:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Hydraulic Engineering, or related discipline (Master's degree preferred)
- Minimum of 8 years' experience in hydraulic design for dams, hydropower, or similar infrastructure
- Strong experience in hydraulic modelling tools (e.g. Flow3D, HEC-RAS, OpenFOAM, or similar)
- Understanding of physical modelling methods and scale effects
- Familiarity with high-energy hydraulic phenomena (e.g. water hammer, cavitation, air entrainment)
- Chartered or working towards Chartership (ICE, Engineers Australia, or equivalent)
- Strong technical reporting and communication skills, with ability to clearly present complex results
