A diversified investment holding company seeks an experienced Accountant to join their dynamic team and provide strategic finance guidance to a newly acquired subsidiary within the group.

This role will be based in Durban North.

Job & Company Description:
The purpose of this role will be to provide support for the business through the finance function, working closely with the current Financial Manager. You will also be responsible for transactional and journal control and recons, as well as maintaining the fixed asset register and WIP balances. Other main duties will include budgeting and forecasting for projects and adding cost control, as well as flagging / raising items for attention of senior management.

The successful incumbent will have a strong understanding of a project-based environment, for example construction and building, engineering or civil industries.

You will report to the Group CFO and Group CEO, as well as the Divisional Financial Manager.

• Diploma or Degree in Finance or Accounting essential

• 5 to 7 years' experience within a full finance function position
• Construction / building / engineering / civil industry experience, and understanding of a project-based environment essential
• Knowledge of Sage essential
• Experience with systems and process implementations essential
• Knack for numbers and analytically minded
• Meticulous attention to detail
• Deadline driven

• Manage a team of accountants responsible for the accurate preparation of financial records and statements

• Compile and analyze monthly reports, including sales, purchases, waste stock, diesel, bailing wire/twine, bags, and cashbook reconciliations.
• Complete salaries reconciliations, journals, accrual schedules, and intercompany loan reconciliations.
• Review income statements, balance sheet reconciliations, and manage outstanding sales orders.
• Ensure VAT compliance (standard and notional).
• Manage accounts payable (invoice capturing, supplier invoice reconciliations, waste cash reconciliations) and accounts receivable (sales orders, invoicing, debtor reconciliations, collections).
• Oversee stock control for diesel, bailing wire/twine, and bags, including reordering and reconciliation.
• Monitor waste stock, perform weekly counts, and investigate variances.
• Handle petty cash, credit card reconciliations, and utilities management (water & electricity usage).
• Review and manage time & attendance, overtime approvals, and payroll submissions.

• Compile monthly reports including GL reconciliations, accrual schedules, VAT compliance, and debtor reporting.
• Review income statements and balance sheets, highlighting variances and budget control.
• Complete reconciliations for intercompany loans, salaries, and cashbook.
• Prepare monthly stock mass balance and waste reporting.

• Capture, reconcile, and manage supplier invoices and payments.
• Raise accurate sales orders, invoice customers, and manage debtor collections.
• Resolve supplier and customer queries promptly.

• Oversee diesel, bailing wire, twine, and bag consumable reconciliations, usage tracking, and reordering.
• Manage daily and monthly stock counts, investigate variances, and compile financial loss reports.
• Monitor waste stock on-site and ensure accuracy in reporting.

• Manage petty cash and company credit card reconciliations.
• Review and escalate overtime variances, manage time and attendance, and support payroll submissions.
• Monitor utilities usage (water, electricity, diesel) and reconcile against reported costs.
• Ensure adherence to company accounting policies and statutory compliance.

• BCom in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent qualification.
• Proven experience in financial controlling, management accounting, or similar role.
• Strong reconciliation, reporting, and problem-solving skills.
• Experience in stock, consumables, and cost control management.
• Advanced Excel skills with high attention to detail.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
