Now we’re looking for a Content Director on Woolworths Taste to help us deliver on that promise.

We’re seeking a visionary Content Director to lead our content delivery for Woolworths and the TASTE brand across all platforms. The ideal candidate must be an obsessive foodie who is deeply passionate about the world of food and storytelling. In this pivotal role, you'll spearhead strategic implementation and innovation, shape industry conversations by harnessing (and setting) emerging trends, identify bold ideas, and craft transformative strategies that elevate our content offering to new heights.

What You’ll Do

Strategic Content Leadership

  • Develop and drive a comprehensive strategy across multiple areas of content delivery for the full Woolworths account
  • Oversee content strategy integration across all Woolworths touchpoints and platforms
  • Ensure a cohesive content approach that supports broader Woolworths brand objectives and commercial goals

Content Direction

  • Lead & manage the content team to execute the strategy effectively across all platforms across the account
  • Work closely with the food director to maintain and audit visual standards
  • Oversee content creation and mix across all channels to achieve reach and engagement goals and ensure quality across platforms
  • Ensure content aligns with client's evolving brief, trade and brand priorities
  • Collaborate with various suppliers to ensure the content output meets brand standards
  • Ensure a diverse and inclusive content mix according to the brand strategy
  • Provide final approval on content
  • Collaborate with commercial lead to support TASTE’s commercial strategy
  • Create content solutions in response to ad hoc client briefs
  • Drive Woolworths’ food authority and thought leadership content via TASTE channels

Content Strategy & Trends

  • Identify growth opportunities
  • Identify and report on local & global trends to inform the content strategy
  • Monitor trends in digital food content, technology and ecommerce

What You Bring

  • Strong leadership skills with ability to manage multiple direct reports
  • Experience working with commercial clients and translating briefs into content
  • Excellent project management and communication skills

What We Require

  • Relevant Degree or equivalent in Journalism, media or related field
  • 10+ years proven experience in content strategy and direction, preferably in food media, agency or retail environments

You will work closely with the North American and Corporate Marketing Team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Write and edit engaging web copy for our home, product, and campaign pages, as well as high-quality content for social media, email marketing, and blogs.
  • Execute on and contribute to a comprehensive website content strategy that aligns with the company's brand voice and resonates with target audiences
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including marketing, design, and product, to ensure content is aligned with business goals and objectives
  • Align with SEO strategies to increase organic traffic and improve search engine rankings
  • Monitor content performance using data and metrics to inform future content strategy
  • Ensure all content is consistent with brand guidelines and maintains a cohesive brand voice
  • Stay up to date with industry trends and best practices to continuously improve and innovate content strategy
  • Manage and prioritise multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring deadlines are met and quality is maintained
  • Collaborate with other content producers, external agencies, and freelancers to supplement content creation as needed

Requirements

  • 3+ years’ experience in copywriting and/or digital marketing
  • Understanding of web UX and optimizing journeys
  • Knowledge of SEO best practice
  • Knowledge of B2B digital marketing channels and techniques
  • Strong editing and proofreading skills
  • Proficient with WordPress, Google Analytics, Microsoft Office
  • People skills to work effectively with remote team members and cross-functional teams in a matrix management arrangement
  • Occasional travel to events in South Africa – estimate 2 x per annum

The model is to drive digitalisation and operational efficiency across the business, leading to an economies-of-scale-driven growth for each of the operating companies. We are looking to grow and scale both organically within these operating companies and through further acquisitions.

The Role:

The Digital Content & Social Media Strategist is responsible for driving brand visibility, engagement and community growth through impactful social media content and visual storytelling. This role manages organic social media channels creating, scheduling and optimising content across platforms like LinkedIn, Instagram, and Facebook while ensuring all visual assets align with brand standards.

They repurpose long-form content into digestible, engaging formats, support basic video editing, and collaborate with SEO and marketing teams to ensure consistency and performance. With a stong foundation in graphic design and a data-driven mindset, the strategist continuously tracks performance metrics, refines content strategies and identifies creative opportunities for community engagement and brand amplification.

The responsibilities of this role include:

Organic Social Media Management
  • Develop and manage a monthly content calendar for platforms such as LinkedIn, Instagram, and Facebook.
  • Write and schedule engaging organic posts, tailored to each platforms format and best practices (carousels, videos, image posts, and text updates).
  • Monitor social channels dailyresponding to comments, mentions, and messages while maintaining a consistent brand voice.
  • Track content performance (engagement, reach, saves, shares) to inform future content strategies.
Graphic Design & Visual Content Creation
  • Create visually appealing assets for social posts, blogs, emails, infographics, and other collateral.
  • Ensure all graphics follow brand guidelines including colours, typography and visual tone.
  • Collaborate with SEO and content teams to transform written content into engaging visual formats (e.g., infographics, quote cards, "How-To" carousels).
  • Design reusable templates for recurring content series to speed up production.
Content Repurposing & Multimedia Support
  • Convert long-form content (blogs, whitepapers, case studies) into short, shareable social formats.
  • Assist with light video editingtrimming, adding captions, and applying simple transitions.
  • Work alongside writers and freelancers to ensure cohesive visual-copy alignment prior to publishing.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Align visuals and content with SEO strategy while ensuring compliance with alt text, image sizing and structure.
  • Support the Digital Marketing Manager with visuals for campaigns, product launches and gated content promotions.
  • Offer design input on landing pages and CRO experiments (e.g., A/B test visuals or lead magnet graphics).
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Minimum 2 years of hands-on social media management experience, ideally in a B2B setting.
  • Strong graphic design skills with working knowledge of tools like Canva, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, or Figma.
  • A portfolio showcasing consistent brand design across at least two platforms (e.g., Instagram, LinkedIn).
  • Familiarity with basic video editing software for creating short clips or animated visuals.
  • Experience managing social media independently across multiple content streams.
Skills and Characteristics
  • Deep understanding of platform-specific best practices (hashtags, ideal post formats, optimal timing).
  • Strong written communication, able to craft concise, engaging and on-brand captions.
  • Analytical mindsetable to interpret engagement metrics and refine strategies accordingly.
  • Highly organised with the ability to manage several content tracks simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Collaborative nature with experience working across departments (SEO, content, marketing).
