Summary of the position

We are seeking a highly accomplished and visionary Business Intelligence Developer to join our team. As a BI Developer, you will report into the Business Intelligence Manager and be responsible for developing and maintaining BI and Reporting solutions.

Comptencies

  • Proficient in reporting writing tools such as SSRS, dashboarding tools like Power Bi.
  • Solid understanding of relational databases, Microsoft T-SQL.
  • Solid understanding of ETL processes.
  • Understanding of scheduling tools such as control-m.

Outline of main duties and responsibilities

As a Business Intelligence Developer, you will be expected to:

  • Work with both Business Analysts and business owners to develop and enhance reports and dashboards.
  • Maintain and enhance existing ETL processes.
  • Be on regular after-hour stand-by support for the data warehouse loads.
  • Performance tuning of stored procedures and reports.
  • Ensure that development standards and processes are followed according to Apex’s best practices.
Skills and experience
  • A degree or diploma (3 years) with majors Information Systems or Computer Science will be a strong advantage.
  • A good working knowledge of IT systems in a corporate environment.
  • At least 2-3 years of solid SQL Server development experience, with profiency in report writing skills. This includes but not limited to building complex stored procedures, functions, and views.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in building integration solutions independently.
  • Strong attention to accuracy and detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including an ability to work independently from the business analyst team when appropriate.
  • A high tolerance for ambiguity as requirements is not always clear at the start of a project and can change as users and analysts start to see the data.
  • Self-starter who can take the initiative to learn new technologies independently and not just wait to be sent on training.
  • Solid time management and communication skills essential.
  • Ability to multi-task and to work on multiple project streams simultaneously.
  • High personal integrity.

About the role

We’re looking for a skilled BI Developer to join our team in a dynamic, insights-driven role. The focus of this position is to develop, maintain, and enhance reporting solutions that support data-driven decision-making in a complex, high-volume credit environment. This is a hands-on technical role combined with the ability to interpret business requirements and translate them into impactful, user-friendly reports and dashboards. A solid understanding of credit and financial services concepts is essential, ensuring data insights are accurate, relevant, and aligned to business objectives.

Minimum Experience
  • At least 4 years’ experience implementing innovative BI solutions leading to clear business decisions and benefits
  • At least 4 years’ experience in data analysis, including experience in and understanding of database structure design and data extraction principles (ETL)
  • At least 4 years’ experience working with any visualisation tools of which 2 years is on Power BI (DAX, M)
  • At least 4 years’ experience in SQL (Postgres, MySql, MS SQL) which involved cleaning, enriching, transforming, data mapping, data aggregation, and data normalization that is suitable for data analysis
  • Experience working with product development life cycle and Agile frameworks
  • Experience managing projects own work and initiatives from start to finish, including planning, scoping, budgeting, and timeline management
Ideal
  • Data analysis methodologies or BI development in a various industries (i.e. financial/banking environment including financial, insurance, telecommunications and risk industries)
Qualifications (Minimum)
  • A relevant degree in Statistics or Finance

  • Certification in AWS Practitioner
Knowledge

Minimum:

  • Overall good understanding and application of BI and Data Warehousing best practice
  • Overall good understanding in Python or R (or any other relevant programming language)
  • Expert in the field of BI development (reports, dashboards, data visualisation, etc.)
  • Extensive knowledge of BI/reporting and analytical tools
  • In depth knowledge of BI environments, solutions and implementations (end-to-end BI architecture and technologies)
  • In depth knowledge in the field of data analysis methodologies (Descriptive-,Diagnostic-,Predictive-,Prescriptive Analytics)
  • Knowledge of both waterfall and agile development approaches
  • Knowledge of SQL query language: Preferably AWS services (Redshift, Athena, DataLake, Python, PostgreSql, MySQL) or MS Technologies (Azure services, SQL, SSAS)
  • A good understanding of design and user experience principles
  • Understanding of Agile principles
