Key Responsibilities
Network Infrastructure Planning and Implementation
- Define network requirements and design scalable solutions
- Deploy, configure, and maintain LAN and WAN environments
- Manage IP address allocation
- Monitor and report on network capacity
- Coordinate network access and support with third-party vendors
Network Availability and Performance Management
- Manage user accounts, permissions, and authentication
- Install and configure network hardware and software updates
- Integrate new server hardware and applications
- Administer third-party network and firewall applications
- Maintain virtual hosts, VPNs, routers, and other hardware
- Optimize network performance and monitor key metrics
- Respond to security alerts and connectivity issues
- Update antivirus and security software
- Troubleshoot and resolve network and security issues
- Provide second-line support and remote troubleshooting
- Respond to capacity threshold alerts
Research and Development of Networking Practices
- Evaluate software updates, patches, and firmware releases
- Recommend improvements to server system operations
- Stay current with networking best practices and technologies
Administrative and Documentation Duties
- Define and maintain network policies and procedures
- Communicate technical issues to IT teams and management
- Resolve user hardware and software configuration issues
- Track system lifecycle and recommend replacements
- Document systems and plan for new implementations
- Foster strong relationships with internal stakeholders
Support for Non-IT Operational Activities
- Perform generator and UPS operational checks
- Ensure OEM maintenance compliance for generators and UPS systems
- Handle first-line support for generator and system failures
- Retrieve and manage camera footage
- Install and maintain camera hardware and cabling
- Conduct solar system checks and basic maintenance
- Troubleshoot office electrical issues
Qualifications
- BSc in Computer Science or related field
- Equivalent NQF Level 7 certification (e.g., CCNA, ACSA, Fortigate)
- MCSE and MCIPT certifications
- A+ and N+ Certifications
- Linux LPIC-1
- Proven experience as a Network Administrator
- Expertise in designing and implementing large-scale, multi-vendor networks (Aruba, Cisco)
- Hands-on experience with network security tools (e.g., Sophos, Fortigate)
- Practical experience with Aruba routing and switching
- Wireless network configuration and management
- Firewall and VPN implementation and troubleshooting
- Windows Server (2016–2019), Hyper-V, and server design
- Infrastructure management across Linux and Microsoft Systems
- VMware experience
- Proficiency in backup and recovery methodologies
- Deep understanding of internet protocols and standards
- Knowledge of network automation, telemetry, and SDN
- Familiarity with network security standards and implementation
- Strong grasp of physical cabling and server infrastructure management
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills
