Overview

As an Artisan – Diesel Mechanic, you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing machinery and diesel-powered vehicles, engines and mechanical systems according to sound engineering practice and equipment specifications. Reporting to the Senior Engineering Foreman, you will plan and implement schedules for maintenance and repair of underground mining TMM, and champion safety, environmental and health standards.

Responsibilities
  • Build and assemble machines or mechanical components according to requirements
  • Inspect machines, engines, transmissions and run diagnostic tests to discover functionality issues
  • Conduct repairs aiming for maximum reliability and availability
  • Troubleshoot reported problems and resolve them in a timely manner
  • Perform thorough maintenance and repairs on machinery, equipment and systems
  • Provide consultation on correct maintenance and preventative measures to machine or vehicle users
  • Keep logs of work and report issues
  • Perform inspections in accordance with the Mine Health & Safety Act regulations, manufacturing and company standards to report all defects and breakdowns on equipment and machinery to the Supervisor
  • Plan activities in accordance with production schedules and allocate resources as required
  • Communicate effectively with relevant stakeholders to minimize delays
  • Adhere to policies and procedures
  • Uphold safety, health and environmental standards to achieve ZERO HARM
  • Training and development of subordinates

This role is in the VUP Engineering department at a CL level reporting to the Senior Engineering Foreman.

Qualifications
  • Grade 12 / N3 / Equivalent NQF Level 4 qualification with pure Mathematics and Physical Science
  • Relevant Trade Certificate (Diesel Mechanic)
  • Active Proto team member (Advantageous)
  • Valid EB / Code 8 Drivers License
Experience Required
  • Minimum 3 years continuous experience as a Diesel Mechanic in TMM maintenance in an underground mine is essential
  • Sound knowledge and experience in the maintenance, repairs and fault finding of the following TMM equipment: Drill Rigs (DD320, DD321, DD420, DD421 & DD422i), Long Hole Rigs (DL421, DL422i, DL432i & Rhino Machine), Cable Bolters (DS421, DS422i & DS412i), Roof Bolters (DS411), Maclean Bolter (946), LHD (LH410, LH517i & LH621i), Dump Trucks (TH430, TH540 & TH551i), Shotcrete (Normet), Manitou and Agicars etc.
  • Ability to understand and read technical drawings to perform fault finding
  • Planning and control of maintenance schedules as per SAP PM
  • Computer literacy – MS Office Suite

Overview

  • Role incumbent will be appointed in terms of MHSA Reg 2.13.3.1 and has a strong focus on legal compliance
  • Ensure adherence to the company's Safety, Health and Environmental management programmes and that objectives are implemented according to MHSA legislation and the Strategic Management Plan
  • Direct and identify the implementation of policies and procedures to ensure adherence to mining standards, organisational standards and legislative requirements
  • Allocate and manage the utilisation of financial resources and value add to optimise engineering availability and life cycle management of equipment.
  • Management and co-ordination of team and resources to execute maintenance and operational plans for Caterpillar HME Fleet, light vehicle & support equipment fleet, and pit dewatering infrastructure
  • Repair and Maintenance (R&M) contract management for Venetia Mine Caterpillar Fleet
  • Management of the open pit dewatering infrastructure for safe operation and maintenance.
  • Management of the mine surface fleet collision prevention system implementation and maintenance
  • Implement maintenance strategies and tactics to deliver availability, reliability and cost performance to mine business plan
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements : (Education & Experience)

  • Ndip (N6) or B-Tech or Bachelors' Degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical)
  • Government Certificate of Competency (Mines)
  • This role will carry a regulation 2.13.3.1 appointment
  • 5 years' experience in heavy mobile equipment maintenance management in the mining environment
Role specific knowledge
  • Knowledge of the Mine Health and Safety Act
  • Knowledge of Engineering Standards according to SANS
  • Proven ability in heavy mobile equipment maintenance management
  • Proven ability in managing OEM managed MARC contracts for heavy mobile equipment

  • Sound knowledge and experience in the maintenance, repairs and fault finding of the following TMM equipment: Drill Rigs (DD320, DD321, DD420, DD421 & DD422i), Long Hole Rigs (DL421, DL422i, DL432i & Rhino Machine), Cable Bolters (DS421, DS422i & DS412i), Roof Bolters (DS411), Maclean Bolter (946), LHD (LH410, LH517i & LH621i), Dump Trucks (TH430, TH540 & TH551i), Shotcrete (Normet), Manitou and Articulated Garages (if applicable).
  • Ability to understand and read technical drawings to do fault finding.
  • Planning and control of maintenance schedules as per SAP PM.
  • Computer literacy - MS Office Suite.

  1. BSc, BTech or National Higher Diploma Engineering from a recognised institution.
  2. DMR Government Certificate of Competency to practice as an Engineer (GCC Mines and Works - Mechanical or Electrical).
  3. Project Management qualification (advantageous).
  4. ECSA registration (advantageous).
  5. Proficient in MS Office including MS Projects.
  6. Valid Driver’s license.
  7. Medically fit to work underground.
  8. Enablement and leadership skills.

Overview

The role is responsible for creating a high-performance culture and leading the production team to effectively deliver on the set production and respective business continuity targets through an integrated value chain. The role holds the legal accountability with a 2.13.3.1 appointment in terms of the MHSA, responsible for the overall safe operation and maintenance of equipment including availability of HME, light vehicle, and pit dewatering services at Venetia Mine.

Key Result Areas
  • Role incumbent will be appointed in terms of MHSA Reg 2.13.3.1 and has a strong focus on legal compliance
  • Ensure adherence to the company's Safety, Health and Environmental management programmes and that objectives are implemented according to MHSA legislation and the Strategic Management Plan
  • Direct and identify the implementation of policies and procedures to ensure adherence to mining standards, organisational standards and legislative requirements
  • Allocate and manage the utilisation of financial resources and value add to optimise engineering availability and life cycle management of equipment
  • Management and co-ordination of team and resources to execute maintenance and operational plans for Caterpillar HME Fleet, light vehicle & support equipment fleet, and pit dewatering infrastructure
  • Repair and Maintenance (R&M) contract management for Venetia Mine Caterpillar Fleet
  • Management of the open pit dewatering infrastructure for safe operation and maintenance
  • Management of the mine surface fleet collision prevention system implementation and maintenance
  • Implement maintenance strategies and tactics to deliver availability, reliability and cost performance to mine business plan
Qualifications

Ndip (N6) or B-Tech or Bachelors’ Degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical)
Government Certificate of Competency (Mines)
This role will carry a regulation 2.13.3.1 appointment
5 years’ experience in heavy mobile equipment maintenance management in the mining environment
